This is so funny that I am the current reigning Duke of a place that I frequent about once every 3 months. This is review number 50, the half century mark– so I gotta do my thing. I come here for one thing and one thing only– Joico Spiker hair glue. I’m 43, inherently losing my already thin hair on top(a’ la my dad– new genetic research shows it’s not just from maternal grandfather. Science!) Anyway, my long time hair stylist and confidant, Eddy turned me onto this product and it somehow gives my follically challenged dome a glimmer of a style. I have a rewards card too. Get 10% back on every 100 bones you spend. I should see the savings pour in around 2016! The staff is super friendly and for my quarterly hair styling needs, this place fits the bill.

It’s not often I go to a chain for much of anything, but when it comes to skin and hair care products, I’m really not trying to try just ‘anything’. I’ve had a hard time getting my face to not be covered in acne, so I’m disinclined to try random things. That’s probably narrow-minded, but after being stabbed and stuck, prodded and poked by dermatologists all over the state, I’ll take proven products like Murad, Dermalogica, Philosophy and Bliss. Ditto for the hair. I pay a sweaty handful of dolla bills on the monthly to have my hair not look like a seedy bar for blonde rats. So I’ll stick with products from Tigi and Biolage; there are just a handful of places to go for this noise, and one of them is Beauty Brands. I give it a solid 3 stars — here’s the breakdown. 4 stars for selection: If only they carried Origins and Kiehl’s, I’d never step foot in the mall again.(Okay, well, the Apple Store notwithstanding) 4 stars for service: The gals that work here are always knowledgeable, helpful, polite and willing to provide samples rather than have you buy something you don’t love. 5 stars for a super-handy reward program: 10% off reward after $ 100 spent. They keep track via your name and address in the computer so I don’t have to keep up with the little card. Let’s be clear: I lose my keys at least three times every day. That little card is going to end up regulating a wayward table leg somewhere, so thanks for not making me keep up with that little piece o’ plastic! 2 stars(ouch) for spa-style services: I use spa very loosely, because there ain’t nothin’ spa about that deal. Unless your spa has linoleum floors, bad lighting and is located just behind the cash wrap. I got a blow out there a few monts ago and it was basically a Supercuts without good magazines. Same goes for the mani pedi we had there. My sister and I were needing to get to a rehearsal dinner for a wedding we were in, so this should have been our last few minutes of chill time, but we ended up hearing all out our pedi-purveyor’s common-law lover llama drama. True. So, all in. I go there to shop, ask questions, use my rewards, and avoid parking at the mall. Sometimes, that’s all you need, baby.
