New cook makes a visit worthwhile, at least for breakfast. Best hash brown potatoes in Columbia Country. And the coffee is okay too. As for my prior post of many years ago, the owners have split; only one remains, which means a 50% improvement in the vibes. I may try the new cook for dinner and will report back.

Dinner Friday and Saturday night. Large portions, great food. Menu is very pasta based, but there was one steak, two chicken, one scallop and one lobster dish. There is a full bar, but my mojito was watery and not sweet. Desserts are also worth the calories, so don’t fill up on the bread.
Ate there this evening on a recommendation from the B&B we were staying at. Based on the prior reviews I was quite apprehensive about going. The duck I ordered and the pork chop my girlfriend ordered were wonderful. We had the cherry cobbler for desert, it was great. The portions were huge. Our server was really nice, I can’t wait to go back.

Gourmet food in cozy atmosphere. Wood stove in winter. Deck in summer. Gallery art. Special events for openings and shows. The guys can cook.

Nice ambience to the dining room. Limited wine selection. On one visit, my plate came luke warm. Pointed this out to the server, and she brought it back to the kitchen. It had been well cooked, but cold. It came back overcooked and probably microwaved. I didn’t push the issue because I wanted to enjoy what was oitherwise a lovely meal, but they should have cooked me another piece of pork.

We’re used to good restaurants in many places, but had waited a long time for a place like the OC to open here. Since the first day, service has been excellent, and the food consistently top notch. The atmosphere is warm and cozy — just what one would hope to find in a small country hamlet. The menu changes every month, and is seasonal. The portions are too large for me, but that’s ok, take-aways are just as delicious the next day. But it makes it hard to sample the full menu, which is good from appetizers to dessert. Special recommendations? The roast chicken is perfectly done. Best features? It’s consistently good. My only regret is that they are no longer open Thursday or Sundays.

I have a deep soft spot in my heart for the OC Country Store. I have been going here for more than half my life and have watched it change hands several times over(be wary of older reviews; they may not apply to new owners). For some reason, going to eat at the Country Store always feels special, even if it’s just for a sandwich on a Tuesday afternoon. There is something really comfortable about the place, but also just really good. I know that’s vague but if you go and see for yourself I am sure you will get what I am saying. The food is great, as is the coffee and if you are near by and just need some milk or cereal or the paper, it’s a great option. They don’t carry a lot of grocery items but what they do have is pretty solid. INSIDERTIP: Their fresh tortilla chips(sold in bags in the store) are to die for and totally worth every penny.

If Old Chatham were Casablanca, this would be Rick’s Café Americain. Everyone goes here. Because it’s the best around.

My husband and I took off this morning with high expectations after hearing about the OC from many locals as well as reading the rave reviews. We drive about an hour to get there and arrived at 11:30 — just after breakfast. We were the only ones there so far for lunch. My husband ordered a burger, they asked how to cook it, my husband answered medium rare. I ordered a lump crab cake sandwich and asked if I could have a fried egg on top of it as I feared it would be dry. They said no to the egg as it was 20 minutes past the point when eggs could be cooked(?) — and as it turns out the crab cake was dry and needed it. The burger they cooled to well done. Our mains were dry and overcooked and the fries that came with them were undercooked. The owners were clearly more interested in organizing their dinner booking for the evening than they were in our experience from the moment we walked in the door. The barrista was great and also friendly, but we have good lattes much closer. I cannot imagine needing to go back Their exterior charm and all of the rave reviews fell flat when we walked through the door. Our long trip was completely unrewarded.

I had dinner here and it was amazing! We started with the mussels. They were the best I’ve ever had. The bread was perfect for sopping up the perfectly seasoned, garlicky broth. The lamb was amazing as well. The quality, atmosphere and perfectly prepared dinner was delicious. I can’t wait to visit the area again in order to stop in for dinner. Fresh food prepared really well… that’s hard to find!

Fantastic News… now serving dinner Fri and Sat nights and let me emphasize that they are truly white tablecloth, candle lighted finely prepared meals in a cozy wood stove heated country café environment. Yes, most people come wearing collared shirts and some with jackets but, you will feel equally comfortable in a sweater and jeans. The menus change monthly and wine lists offer nice selections at reasonable prices. Make a res in advance with Brian though as it is the hottest ticket in town and word is spreading fast!
