They have a great return policy, very carefully selected inventory, super knowledgeable staff members, and are all really friendly and helpful.

Consistently great customer service. Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable– just what you want from a hardware store.
Also, they are the only store in Lacey/​Olympia that I’ve found that carries pet-​friendly ice melt. Lowe’s, Home Depot, and Walmart don’t carry it.
Way to lead the example in environmentally friendly products in stock!

Friendly staff, run of the mill little hardware store. Decently priced, not a fantastic amount of variety in stock– but easier to find things than in the big box stores because, well, it’s smaller.

What I like about Ace Hardware is the fact that you’ll always have someone who works there who will assist you. It is a smaller store but we always had been lucky to find what we went there for. We also like the fact that they also carry the Benjamin Moore paint line.

Neighborhood hardware store. They don’t have quite everything I need and it usually takes trips to the Big Box stores, but sometimes I get lucky. Olympia needs a McLendons.. ..

This is an old fashioned hardware store (my passion!) that still sells hardware by the item and not (all) pre packaged in multiples more than you need. Rope, chain and screen mesh are on reels so you can buy 1 foot or 100. Very old school (soup to nuts) that caters not to the pro builder but more to the week end warrior.
The staff is very helpful and eager to get you to what you are looking for. Creative in that they come up with alternate ideas for what the home handiman is trying to do if the item is not in stock.
Big box stores (e.g. Lowes, etc) have their place but it sure is nice to have a traditional hardware store on my side of town. Even if there were a big store here, Ace would be my place.

Although Ace didn’t have what I was looking for… and the prices are definitely not competitive with the big box stores…
I have never been in a hardware/​home store with more people trying to be helpful. In just five minutes I had four different employees asking me if I needed help, or actually helping me. And they were all extremely courteous. Ace is the place!
