Green Onion is one of my favorite places to get a mixed drink. Why? They are as strong as a circus performer. I came in here one time and was wearing a tank top. I noticed the sign outside about proper attire and still went in. The bartender promptly handed me a XXL Greg Norman polo and I was allowed to stay. A fireplace and super cozy chairs are the draw for me. The drinks are really good and really strong. That is a great value. The ambiance is dark and the people are nice. It has been about 15 years that I have graced trough the doors here

The green onion is the perfect place to go if you are having a bad day. The drinks there are stiff and the people wanna talk. I actually really don’t mind this bar at all, I can think of a lot worse places to go in Omaha.

Meh, not really a place I see myself going back to. The décor is very dated… I felt myself waking back into the 90s. The bartenders were older and somewhat condescending to the younger group I was with. The crowd is definitely older as well. Drinks were fine… I guess they’re famous for strong pours but I didn’t notice a marked difference. Wells were $ 7…high in my opinion for the lack of atmosphere and average service.

This bar has a serious identity crises. It appears to be a ‘60s martini bar, with a sunken bar, but the walls have sports TV going on. One station had a motocross event going on, another a basketball game, with no one really watching anything. There was a pacman table in the front, which catered to the suburban 40 somethings.

Awesome place. Good people. Best drinks in omaha. If you want to go to a bar and interact with people and have a good time this is the place to be. Can’t beat this place. I seen a lot of people talk about the owner being mean and what not but he is one of the nicest guys I’ve seen. And in reference to Kevin’s post about hats, it’s clearly posted as you walk in that certain hats aren’t allowed. I’ve gather from your post that you are a flaming douche bag and most likely mouthed off about your disposable income and how cool your fedora was that they were fed up with you and asked you to leave.

Strong drinks. Came here after work and had a decent experience until the end of the night. Member of my party was served a drink at 1:55. Owner came around at 2:05 and started swearing at us to get the fuck out. He claimed we had been served that drink 20 minutes ago and needed to leave. We said we would finish the drink and head out since it had just been brought to the table well after his claimed 1:45 last call. He became extremely unprofessional, grabbed my associates drink and threw it on the bar splashing another patron. He then tried to incite a fight with my guest. We walked out the front door and were followed by a blonde waitress who had been drinking heavily all night and the bar owner who continued to attempt to incite a fight in the parking lot. Will not be bringing guests back to this spot.

DONOTGOHERE! Worst bar I’ve ever been to in Omaha. I come to Omaha from Las Vegas, just to hit the old venues and the A*shole owner said he didnt want my business because of the type of hat I had on. Before I moved to Las Vegas in ’98 and brought all my clients here, spending 6&7 times the ‘average customer spend’, we spent STUPID amounts of money in this bar. NEVERAGAIN! I took my friends to another place since this a*shole didnt want our money. Guess there is a reason why there was only 3 people in the place. We spent collectively, $ 1600 in 2 other venues. The old B*stard Owner Jessie said as soon as we walked in that he didnt NEED our business. Well Jessie, you got what you wanted, we gave our money to your competitors!

Great little bar with a cozy atmosphere. They really know how to pour a drink here. Drinks are made just like I would at home– nice and strong. They also know how to make the more complicated cocktails without me having to explain how to make it. Would very much recommend stopping by.

And yet, two years later this place is still AHHMAZING! During Happy Hour you get these pull tab tickets, pull one tab only and get your drink on the discount printed on the tab you pulled(why do I feel like I am making this description so much more difficult than it really is???).

I like this place mostly for its nostalgic value, as we would go here fairly often when I lived in Omaha during college and professional school. Tis true — their drinks are strong. The crowd on a recent Friday night was quite mixed — a few couples as old as their 70s, some college punks, and a bunch in between. I really dig the sunken bar area.

I love this place because of the strong strong drinks they make. Came here for my birthday and I was given a free shot! Great bartenders. I always order the Long Island. Only allowed two of them, but that’s all i need! The place is never fully jammed packed which I can dig.

I’ve been to the Green Onion many times. It’s an Omaha Landmark with 30+ years in business so they must be doing something right. This you will find at the Green Onion, strong drinks at a reasonable price, friendly staff, a jukebox loaded with all sorts of classic rock, and friendly patrons. The crowd is 30 – 50. They have a great happy hour with all sorts of specials. In the afternoon you can find many professionals from the surrounding business complexes having an after work drink with their coworkers. Overall A nice casual atmosphere. I usually go there on the weekdays though. The weekends are a little to crowded for me.

Are you into retro dive bars? Are you into cheap drinks? Are you into cheap drinks that are super strong? Welcome to the Green Onion! On the eve of my 21st birthday I found out shortly after I got my first drink why my friends took me to the Green Onion for my «Hour of Power». Their drinks are STRONG. I obviously survived my hour of power and have throughout the years revisited the Green Onion. The Green Onion is no match for me and my liver! Anyway, regardless of the boozy drinks the bar itself is an oval shape that is built in the center of the bar. I love this. You can sit in comfy lounge chairs up at the bar or near the fireplace in the corner. It’s one of my favorite dive bars and a great Omaha staple if dive bars are your thing.

I’m in Omaha about once a month an try to visit the Onion each time. Can’t explain why I keep going back — it’s probably the same reason I buy beef jerky on a road trip. It’s not good for me but I need it. Staff is unusually friendly, mixed drinks unusually strong, and there’s always a seat. It’s a dive plain and simple. This place is not romantic, classy or hip but is a great place to hang and catch up. Also, you can always count on some CCR from the juke box.

Very strong drinks. I say that first and foremost because you should know what you are in for. Plan accordingly. The atmosphere is great. Its casual and fun. There were all ages there. The crowd was clean cut 20 – 50 yo, bikers, «hipsters»(or so they were called) and average Joe’s and Jane’s(me). We went on a Saturday night and it was packed. No matter, we found a table immediately, and got comfy. Almost everyone was sitting — no dancing going on, but the Jukebox was playing(not a super awesome selection, but enough to keep the bar going), and they had tons of tv’s showing the game of the night. Its a chatty bar, and great for big groups or for just one or two. There is a decent size round bar in the middle and wait service for the tables. Everyone who worked there was super friendly. If you are in Omaha, there is no reason not to go here for a drink.

The strongest and best mixed drinks in Omaha. A friend of mine who is an officer for the Omaha Police Department confirmed for me that a single mixed drink from this fine establishment puts you over the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle(.08BAC baby!). Watch out for«cougars», as this place is crawling with them, particularly on weekends. One lady at least 20 years my senior offerred to cook my friend and I breakfast. If you like older women who tend to be «morally casual», The Green Onion is worth a visit. Just don’t forget the number for a local cab company.
