I checked out Hector’s while visiting my husband’s family in Omaha. Being from Texas, I have pretty high standards when it comes to both Mexican food, and Tex-Mex food. Hector’s definitely met my expectations for Tex-Mex! The décor is a bit dated, but I don’t go to a restaurant for ambiance, I go for TASTYFOOD! The waiter was exceedingly friendly and attentive, without being overbearing. There are a lot of options on the menu, all reasonably priced. The meal starts with 3 salsas and tasty, fresh chips. There is a mild red salsa, a medium roasted red salsa, and a spicy habanero salsa. My inner-Texan LOVED the spicy salsa, the other two were decent. The waiter even proudly shared that he was the chef for the spicy one! The food was delicious, with top notch flavors, and big portions. When in the Omaha area again, I will gladly eat at Hector’s.

It’s nice and clean with fast service. The chips and salsa were good and also free. Unfortunately the food was pretty bland. The shredded beef lacked any kind of seasoning. It tasted like bland pot roast. I don’t think I’ll be back.

I went to Hector’s and the place has a very dark setting. The waiter was nice but the other waitress was sitting at the bar with her forehead on the bar on her phone which i wanted to leave because there is not any professionalism and it was dirty but we decided to stay, i ordered a chimichunga it was supposed to be crispy since it said deep fat fried but when i got it, it was to big so the chimichunga was soggy and the beef was nothing but salt. I do not recommend this so called Mexican restaurant.

I went here for a belated birthday dinner with my mother. The food was bland, salsa sub-par, they brought my mother the wrong order so we had more food than we could handle. The drinks tasted like pure alcohol instead of mixed, they gave me her drink and she mine. It was the most disappointing experience I have had in a long time. I will NEVER go back, not sure how they have won Best of Omaha so many times. I can list off so many places that have more flavorful food, with the same gastric ramifications… like Taco Bell.

Always a solid meal. The Chicken Taco salad is a go-to for me. A good portion meal with a balance of vegetables and shredded chicken, topped with guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. The queso as an appetizer is great too. Not to thick, not too runny, with a touch of heat. Seating is never an issue, they expedite service rather quickly and can handle pretty large crowds, so dont let a wait fool you.

It’s been a while since I have been to Hector’s. But when I went I was really impressed with their veggie tacos. I would have never thought to put cabbage on them! I have heard their margaritas are pretty good, but at the time I was not of age and just haven’t made it back to try one.

Came in for a late lunch on a Thursday. There were other customers, but the place wasn’t busy at all. We were waiting several minutes until we were seated at a table with a lemon on the floor. The whole place looks like it could do well with a good cleaning. I ordered the #3, shredded beef taco and a tamale. The tamale was okay, but the taco was lacking. Nothing remarkable about it and the shredded beef wasn’t tender. Our server was awful, forgetting what we had ordered, and spilling soda all over the table the single time he came to refill our drinks. I also could have eaten another meal in the time it took for us to get our check. I’m going to stick to Fernando’s next time.

Surprisingly decent shrimp tacos but standard fare for $ 10. Gets the job done if you need to be cheap and fast.

I’ve eaten here a half dozen or so times over the last 15 years. My most recent visit was for lunch on a Wednesday in October. I had the Chimichanga Burrito with chicken. It was pretty good. I thought it was a bit on the dry side and needed a sauce or something on top, but other than that I liked it. It came with rice and beans. Beans were good. I never eat the rice. Complimentary chips and salsa were very tasty too. Service was friendly and attentive. Many of their wait staff have been there for years. Restaurant décor is dated. However, restaurant was clean and well-maintained. It’s located in sort of a «has-been» area of town. They do have a newer location at 156th& Pacific that is nicer inside and in a «hipper» part of Omaha.

I’d have to say there were more cons than pros for our dining experience. Pros: friendly server, free chips and salsa was good, she brought me lots of lemons, for my water, which I love. Cons: uncomfortably cold, guacamole was the worst I’ve ever had at a restaurant, my sister said her fish taco was burnt and it had more fried batter than actual fish, my seafood enchilada was mediocre. Overall, it was an ok experience but I wouldn’t return unless someone was buying!

Nice neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Good food, good and prompt service, good prices. My favorite entrée — seafood enchiladas.

I went on Cinco de Mayo and was less than impressed. The margarita was great but the service and food was nothing special. There was a lack of communication between us and the server. I was given the wrong meat on my quesadilla and figure it was easier to just eat it then to complain and wait for a new dish. Also you are charged if you eat more than one round of chips and salsa… isn’t that silly?

I have been to Hector’s several dozen times now and I have never been disappointed. The food is consistently good(not mind-blowingly amazing, but good). What makes this worthy of 5 stars in my opinion is the combination of super low prices and excellent service. You get the full effect of a sit down meal and still get your fill for under ten dollars. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I consider this placed tried and true, and everyone I’ve recommended it to has left happy.

I know this is a favorite for many but I can never figure out way. Food is decent but with so many other better Mexican restaurants… not sure how it survives. Salsa is decent and the do have a spicy version that is good. Service was very good but again… hard to get over the average food.

Nothing Crazy here. Just a convenient neighborhood place close to the house. I usually end up with Fajitas, but they have a decent sized menu. All the usually Tex Mex suspects. Wait staff is always friendly. Place could definitely use some updating.

My husband I were hungry after shopping so we used the GPS and typed in Mexican food. Hector’s came up the closes so we gave them a chance. The inside is not as nice as some places. It comes across a little simpler in nature or even a little dated. The service was good from our waitress and the food was actually pretty decent. The food is a little more authentic then some of the Mexican restaurants I’ve been to lately

I guess if you want Mexican and you are in Omaha — this is one of the premier places to go. I have to admit that it was simply middle of the road and I wasn’t really impressed. I do however love the 90s/Fresh-prince-era/Cocktail(Tom Cruise) style interior. So go ahead and give it a shot if you want Mexican and you are in town.

I was first introduced to Hector’s by my cousin and her husband, and I was hooked from my very first bite. You can watch the cooks make their tortillas in-house, and you can certainly taste the freshness… they are absolutely amazing. My go-to dish here is the flautas. They are fried little pieces of deliciousness! Served with beans and rice, they are incredibly filling. My only real complaint here is that the service is inconsistent. I have had wonderful servers here, and I have had a lot of really bad servers here. If they could fix that problem, I would give them five stars!
