Since moving to Omaha, we’ve driven past this King Kong dozens of times but had never stopped in to try it. Recently, my son and I were driving home from his class, he was hungry, so we decided to give it a shot. Upon entering and seeing the prices, I tried to talk my son into leaving. It was $ 7.99 for a burger, which was a half pound. But, still I thought it was a bit high given that this is a) fast food and b) frozen and not fresh. We ordered a combo, which came with fries and a drink for about eleven bucks after tax. Not bad overall, I suppose, if you go the combo route but for that price I would expect a freshly prepared burger. When we got our burger, they forgot to put cheese on it, so we had to get it corrected. The burger was decent, according to my son. The fries were hot, crispy, and seasoned perfectly. They were quite good. We didn’t try anything else but I can say that nothing about the food we did have will have any of us clamoring to go back for more. What made the experience weird was that one of the employees literally chased another through the kitchen for a short time. They didn’t speak English, so I am not sure what precipitated the chase, but he left a customer at the register to do it. It was odd. This location is sitting at a two star review currently and after our visit, I would have to agree. The food was average, the prices are a bit high, and the employees were not very professional. I doubt we go back.

Their ‘Famous Kong’ Burgers are prepackaged, frozen patties. Meat is chewy and fries(also frozen) are bland. For the price everything should be Fresh. Cashier barely spoke english. Styrofoam plates and small cups. $ 10 for a crappy burger, crappy fries and a tiny drink. Do yourself a favor and go to BK instead IF you are looking for a Burger. Gyro was decent BUT the rice and potato side was one note and the salad tasted like straight vinegar. Can get a better one at Legacy Gyro 5 minutes away. Prices are way too high. A good $ 2 – 3 for each item too high.

Ok, there are a lot of bad reviews here so rather than repeat what everybody already knows, I’ll give the owners an action plan: 1) dump the tip jar. Service and attitude against the backdrop of high prices make tips a joke. 2) Elevator music. Hideous. 3) nothing you can do about the bad location. You’re screwed. 4) owners need to get out here and greet customers. GETTOKNOWYOURCUSTOMERS. Visit a Jimmy John’s sometime for clues. 5) Have at least one person during open store hours who is friendly, smiles, and can speak English. This will be a tall order for you. 6) Work on making the store appear from the outside like it’s open. It usually LOOKS closed. 7) $ 5.00 for onion rings is ridiculous. 8) $ 5.00 for rice and potatoes makes you look stupid. There ya go! Best of luck.

I’m used to real greek gyro’s and this wasn’t it. It looked like I was eating dog food, so that alone was pretty unappealing. The rice and beans wasn’t very impressive either. ughh Then they had just changed the syrup in the pepsi machine and it didn’t get completely rinsed out and tasted like straight chlorine. On the good side, at least we know they clean their machines. But if I’m going to spend money, I will go somewhere else.

Summary: Expensive, mediocre quality, poor service. I have eaten at other King Kong locations in the past and always enjoyed it. A few weeks ago I went through the drive-through to get a burger. The process was very slow and I did not get the impression they had their act together. I was shocked at the price, and when I came home the burger had no top bun! By the time I got home I had spent more than 30 minutes on the process and was not up for driving back again to get the top on what would now have been a cold burger. Since the burger had cost me a small fortune, I was upset and called to speak with a manager. I told him I expected to receive a coupon for a free burger in the mail and gave them my address. Of course I never received the coupon. On top of everything else the burger was just average and they got my toppings wrong. I live near here and drive by the location daily, there are never any cars there. I don’t expect them to last long. If they don’t make it, it will be self-inflicted.

Where to start… Overpriced, not very good, and service somewhat questionable. The gyro meat was bland, as was the rice(which had to be instant), and my daughter’s Philly sandwich was so cold that the cheese hadn’t even melted. After eating fries for a couple of minutes(which actually were very good), she asked the cook if he would warm the sandwich because it was cold. His response? «If you hadn’t let it sit for ten minutes, it wouldn’t have gotten cold.» My Greek salad was fresh and good, but hardly worth the money considering that there was no meat(and only a few crumbles of feta) on it. Good stop for fries and a soda, but not much else.

We went to King Kong Gyros because we parents really wanted gyros, and our young daughters did not. So we thought this would be a good bet. Sadly we were wrong. Agree with other reviewers in that the food is just okay, and definitely overpriced. Our meal for two adults and two children was $ 44! The gyros were just okay, and the meat did not seem as good as other gyro places such as Legacy Gyro and Fetas. It seemed more processed and mushy. Also didn’t like the fact that the kid’s hamburger is no different than the smallest adult size, which is a full half pound! As an adult, I would not even eat that much as I know it’s not healthy for me! They also didn’t have any options for my daughter who doesn’t like soda or tea. Usually fast food places have punch or lemonade etc. but none here. When we asked about milk, the employee said reluctantly that he could perhaps find some in back, but that if they had it, it would be whole milk. Staff just didn’t seem very accommodating either. So my daughter tried a strawberry shake. When she didn’t drink it all, we asked why, and she said it tasted strange. We tried it, and it tasted kind of watery, as if water had been used instead of milk in its ingredients. I would not go here again, as there are just too many other better options for both burgers and gyros. In addition, you’d pay less(and not have to feel badly about your child eating, or wanting to eat the full half pound burger!)

Went to restaurant on Sunday for their«all day» steak special advertised in their commercial. Went thru drive-thru and was told by a very rude employee that the special ends at 2pm. Questioned him why commercial states all day Sunday. He told me that is for the 72nd location only and if I want the special price to go there, he then quit speaking to me. It will be a long time before I go back to this place.

I am giving this place five stars based on the gyro meat alone. It is some of the best gyro meat I have had since moving away from my fav greek food place in stl. Though it is a fast food concept, and is nothing fancy, I loved my meal and will return for it specifically. I had the gyro salad, which was served with a fluffy, warm pita, and a side of fries. Water to drink. The salad dressing is a very light red wine vinaigrette, which I loved. It did not drown or overpower the salad. Veggies included a generous amount of kalamata olives, red tomato, pepperocinis over iceberg lettuce. It was a large salad and could easily be shared. Lots of gyro meat and feta cheese. They even threw in a ramekin of tsatsziki sauce. The restaurant was super busy and the folks behind the counter were nice, though busy. My husband had the burger and was not overly impressed. Go there for the gyro and you won’t be disappointed.

First time customer. Heard so much about it so wanted to try it. Horrible service, very pricey. They got three things wrong with our order, did not want to mention the 4th thing wrong. Sent an email never got a response. Wont be back.

I agree with the fellow Unilocalers below about the price and access to this place. It is really hard to get in to, you have to go certain directions on streets because of medians. I was excited to try this place because I haven’t had King Kong since I lived in lincoln. Don’t ever get any burger bigger than a double. Weights listed have to be post-cooked weight. The drive through was not working, so after 10 minutes of looking like a moron and wasting a good portion of my lunch break, I had to go inside. Sandwich, fries, and a drink was just shy of $ 16. Too expensive for a lunch. The fries have a delicious seasoning on them so if you do go, you have to get them. Service was fast and friendly, just too pricy for my taste. That’s the same price as a sushi lunch.

Food was just okay and too expensive…$ 42 for three adults! We had burgers, fries and a salad… Not ever going back.

Hamburgers are served here, but gyros are the specialty. Salads and cheap-but-pretty-good steaks are good choices. The hamburgers are big and taste pretty good, but they’re nothing extraordinary. The sides(fries or rice-and-potatoes) are very worthwhile. Enter from southbound 156th; you’ll be forced to exit to southbound 156th and drive a ways before turning around. This location is West-Omaha-ified. You’ll find clean lines and shades of beige in place of the crazy kitsch.

Glad to have one out west in Omaha. We come here for the Philly Steak Sandwiches and the Greek Salads. It is hard to find a good Philly anymore and theirs are pretty good, stuffed with meat. I love the Greek salads and if you order the meal you get a little salad with it. A little on the expensive side, but what isn’t! I have not tried the burgers yet, but the other locations are good! Much better than Burger King or McDonalds!

Created an account just to post about this restaurant. My first(and last) visit to King Kong. I always see commercials, and was in the mood to try something new. The prices on the menu were surprisingly high, but I decided to get a Gyro Plate($ 10) they said it came with rice, potatoes, beans, and a salad. To start with, the potatoes and beans turned out to be a single piece of potato about 1″ in size, maybe a tablespoon of canned green beans, and a teaspoon of white beans, together in a red sauce, and put on top of my rice. The salad had olives with the pits still in them. I don’t know if this is traditional or not, but it’s a ridiculous way to dress a salad. Everything on the plate should be edible, and that means diners shouldn’t expect to break a tooth on their salad! Finally, the gyro. Now this was my first time at King Kong, but this was not my first gyro. It was, however, the worst. I don’t know WHAT that mystery meat was, but the taste AND texture felt very processed. It was, in a word, disgusting. School cafeteria disgusting. In addition to the wretched food, the restaurant itself was not welcoming at all. When you walk in, you are met with a wall in front of you. Apparently they do not want you to see any of the food preparation. You walk up to a counter, place your order, and wait for it to be put up on top of this(maybe five-foot?) wall. To top it all off, despite no table service, next to the register there is a plastic jar for TIPS! Here’s a tip– Do NOT eat at King Kong! Yuck!

This is a new location so I thought I would give them a try since it’s been years since I last tried a king Kong burger. Location sucks for access… Watch that. The prices are terrible and over priced. $ 6.99 for a burger and. 50 if you want cheese. What… Is this like imported Greek cheese? Oh wait… French fries are $ 2.25 making a cheeseburger with fries a gourmet price. My last time here. Wow… Not worth the money!

This new King Kong just opened today(Saturday, April 26, 2014) in a former gas station. I was not expecting much because it seemed that the turn around time was very quick. But when I walked through the doors, this was not what I was expecting. The place looks immaculate(I guess it should given it opened today) but what happened to my King Kong dive? I looked at the grill and it was sparkling. The had a waitress whose sole job it seemed was to clean tables immediately after the customer left(I had to watch my food as I went to get more water — I was afraid she would beat me back…) The food was good, like I would expect, but it didn’t have that old wonderful old broken in grill taste. I loved it, but it seemed like chef Ramsey of the dude from Kitchen impossible came in and redid the place. I think this s good(but I like my dives) Spacious seating area, maybe seats 80 at one time… 4 stars none-the-less.
