Quiche was just right at $ 7.50, but THREEBUCKS for a regular cup of coffee? C’mon, man. Walking around Old Market on a Monday mid-morning, this was a great find. Lots of items on menu for kids to grandma. Had I wanted to pack on the carbs, I would have tried the waffles, but a quiche was fairly between the healthy goalposts. I tried a strudel sample and was seriously tempted to get it, but they were out of the whole ones. Next time. Or, maybe a piece of rhubarb pie. But, no $ 3 cup of Joe.

Visited Omaha for an event and someone in our group made a reservation at this place. It was very busy which I took as a good sign. The menu is extensive, traditional and laden with cheese. If you’re trying to eat healthy you will have an uphill battle. We were a large party, which I know is difficult. Having said that, the service was extremely slow. It took a long time for the waitress to take our order and then for us to be served with drinks. The meal came out with about half of our orders. After a long delay during which the table next to us was served, the rest of the food came out. My daughter’s meal was an egg scramble made with the wrong ingredients. She was served with the first group and had it remade and it came again with different but wrong ingredients the second time. My eggs were barely warm when I was served. I called the waitress over and told her that the temperature was unacceptable. She offered to remake it but I refused because half the group was finishing their food and I did not want to delay the whole group. I told her that she should inform someone, trying to let them know without making a large scene in front of everyone. We were never given an apology or spoken to by a manager. There was no adjustment on the bill. I left feeling extremely pissed off.

I like certain things about Wheatfields quite a bit. For example, their bakery is darling and very charming, and pretty good quality. Some of their menu options are excellent; they have an amazing Carrot Cake Waffle which they serve with frosting, and their crème brûlée potatoes are incredibly delicious. Greasy, but delicious. It’s a good place to bring guests because of the location(heart of the Old Market) and bakery-like atmosphere. The menu is huge with a TON of options. It honestly is probably a six page menu with the most specialized options available. That sort of makes me think they are a jack of all trades, but master of none. Whenever I’ve ventured to try something sort of unique, I’ve regretted it. I recommend you stick with the basics, if you can figure out how to order — as the menu is huge and very confusing. The service can be so incredibly bad that it frustrates me to eat there. I’m talking EVERYSINGLE time that I’ve been, something is horribly screwed up. The last time we went, my fiancé ordered the hot ham and cheese sandwich. The waitress brought out a deli ham and cheese cold cut. When we told her that he actually ordered the hot ham and cheese, she took the sandwich back and brought him the same sandwich back out, AFTERSHEHADMICROWAVEDIT. Lazy! I have also had to chase down my waitress for things like silverware or my check. I could go on and on about my other experiences, but I’ll spare. Just don’t expect great — or even good– service. Some of the food options are amazing and make it worth the high probability that you will have lazy service. I have to practically beg my fiancé to go there because he is that turned off by it, but I still like it.

Very busy eatery in downtown Omaha. Reminds me of the Bavarian restaurants in Frankenmuth, MI. Let me say the bakery is incredible! Great variety! As far as dining in, their menu is allll over the place, and they have huge portions. I got the nutella & banana crepes, but it included 5CREPES! Huge serving! They tasted okay. Honestly this place is not worth the money. My party had a kids grilled cheese, my crepes, tuna melt w fries, french onion soup, and an apple juice… including tax… my total was $ 56! My huge complaint was the amount of time it took to get our food out. They were extremely busy on an early Saturday afternoon, however it still took over 30 minutes for our food!

Best brunch I’ve had in Omaha! Crab and lobster cake Benedict– amazing! Not a terrible wait for Sunday brunch around 1pm and we had a group of 9. Blood orange mimosa=so yummy!

Beautiful day in Omaha. Was seated quickly and our server was nice. There were so many options on the menu, however everything was grain dominant. Sandwich, muffins, bread bread bread! It makes sense as they have a HUGE bakery with a vast selection. It would have been nice to have some simple comfort food available(mashed potatoes, meatloaf, chicken bread) for those who didn’t want to get one of there complicated dishes and were trying not to break the calorie bank. That being said my husband got the lobster and crab cake hollandaise and loved it. I got the salmon Niçoise salad. It was good. But basic. The salmon was slightly overcooked. Would I go back, yes. Do I think there are other, tastier options in Omaha, YES.

Within an hour of arriving in Omaha this week we were told we had to experience Wheatfields for breakfast. All week we’ve been asked«Have you gone to Wheatfields yet?» So, today — our last day in Omaha — we went. So why did I go into all that… Because our expectations were so high that, at first blush, we were a little disappointed. Here’s the deal — Wheatfields is a good, traditional diner-style restaurant. Nothing fancy. Not a high cuisine type place. Good, fresh, real food and lots of it! The cinnamon rolls are pretty good with lots… LOTS… if icing. The menu says«two eggs» on most items. The eggs must be dinosaur eggs because«2» eggs fill a plate. You won’t leave hungry! So, why not 5 stars? Eggs were overdone and the coffee was disappointing. Go to Wheatfields for a good, old-fashioned, diner breakfast and you won’t be disappointed.

Wheatfields Express is one of many Omaha Wheatfields restaurants that serves classic diner cuisine. Wheatfields offered a number of vegetarian items, but what I ordered wasn’t so great. Maybe I was expecting it to be as satisfying as the Lawrence, KS restaurant of a similar name. I didn’t finish my veggie scrambler. It didn’t taste very good. I’ll put that one on me; I shouldn’t have ordered it. The happy family method of cramming as many vegetables into a dish doesn’t make sense. Does a plate of red bell peppers, green bell peppers, tomatoes, asparagus, eggplant, and spinach sound good to anyone except for the X% of Paleo dieters that are complete food fascists? Now add egg and cheese. On the other hand, I’ve had fantastic veggie scrambles before. Scrambles where the spinach and tomatoes don’t make a puddle of water on the plate, the eggplant is actually crispy, and so on. So maybe Wheatfields and I are equally culpable here. The sweet potato tots might have been straight out of a Sysco bag. Which is not such a bad thing, but means they’re not anything too special. I’m not expecting restaurants to plant their own sweet potatoes and shred them every morning to form into little tots(thanks to Tampa Times’s Laura Reiley for sounding the alarm). I did enjoy the accompanying dipping sauce. I’ll have to try some of the other vegetarian dishes — there are so many! Until then, I’ll live with the regret of yet another disappointing egg scramble.

Location: Old Market area, near many shopping and dining options. A large dining room with windows on both street-side walls, a bit drafty on this cold day. Atmosphere: a bit diner-like, but without a counter. You enter through the retail bakery area, and get to exit through there as well(try to leave without buying something to take home, I dare you!). I sat at a booth with ample room to spread out. Food and beverage: They have average coffee, well-cooked eggs, tasty kielbasa, and crème-brulee potatoes to die for. This recipe which involves both butter and crème, is a specialty of the house. I would urge every table to try some. When I requested a gluten-free toast or bread side, I was given an entire small loaf of bread. It was easily as much carbs as two large muffins, and way more bread than two slices of toast would have been. Service: adequate and not memorable(good thing usually). Come here for a hearty breakfast focused on meat, eggs, dairy, and bread while you are in the Old Market area.

I’ve been to Wheatfields several more times. It’s definitely not our first pick for restaurant food, but a solid choice for breakfast. Most likely the best for breakfast downtown, other than the cafeteria at Union Pacific Headquarters. Crème brûlée potatoes are literally«burnt crème» potatoes, though they may use another fat to layer on top. There’s healthier options, but it is my favorite side on the menu. Mmmmm… FAT! :) Who can argue with that? I’ve never been thrilled by the service, but they aren’t anything to complain about either. The atmosphere is casual. Not great, but not bad. The patio is nice, if it is warm and not too windy. I like the pies and tarts sold in the bakery, but I prefer Great Harvest or Panera for breads.

I though the food and coffee was excellent, the place was charming and brightly lit by giant wrap around Windows. The fresh baked goods were delicious and Mayra our server was fabulous. Excellent addition to a lovely historic downtown neighborhood. Large menu with both classic and interesting choices. Early bird menu as well.

Have eaten here a few times. Very good food. Too bad it’s too cold for outside seating now. I don’t know if I’ll ever get anything other than the lobster Benedict. It’s served over their brûlée potatoes, Omgoodness one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. It’s very rich but so savory. Can get very busy on weekends. Huge menu and prices sometime scares people. Delicious local bread for sale.

No no no. Crepes should be paper thin not crunchy and chewy messes. Need to clean the grease traps or ventilation because all of our clothing reeked of the kitchen.

There is nothing healthy about good Midwestern comfort food. Had Dad’s biscuits and gravy today. Phenomenal !!! Added a piece of Ron’s honey fried chicken breast. It’s hard to find truly good fried chicken but this was pretty good. Had to finish with the famous cinnamon roll. Heaven. Every time I visit Omaha it is a must stop.

I enjoyed a hearty breakfast here on a trip to Omaha. I ordered the polish kielbasa and eggs(the menu said it was top rated in a magazine so I had to try it!). The kielbasa had a nice smokey flavor with a good snap when biting into it. Eggs were cooked to my liking. Also the blueberry jam which came on the side of the roast was amazing. Service was good and friendly. The outdoor seating was a nice touch too. Big portions here so come hungry.

Anyone who doesn’t give this place 5 stars is out of their mind! Ha The menu is unreal, so many amazing choices. And do yourself a favor, throw your diet plan out the window for this one, take all the reviewers advice and get the crème brûlée potatoes. If Jesus was a chef, this would be his divine potatoes. Let’s talk bread pudding… I’m a connoisseur. It’s not too common so, If it’s available, I eat it. This place 2 different kinds! On the recommendation of my lovely waitress, I had the caramel version. It’s perfect… So YUMMMM. K I’m going to pass out from delicious calorie overload

Wheatfields reminds me of my favorite country cafes in my hometown — huge bakery section, massive servings, tons of families here hanging out. While it felt somewhat like home, service and prices fell a little short for me. Their menu is extensive(almost too extensive?!) I ended up going with Market Eggs Benedict, which came with Crème brûlée potatoes and a gigantic muffin. Benedict was pretty standard. Potatoes were like delicious au gratin potatoes that were sure to put me in nap mode later. Food was decent, but I HAVE to gripe about their drinks — $ 3 for coffee? $ 4 for TEA?! Seriously though, folks. It’s hot water and a tea bag. Ridiculous. Also, our server was very nice, but all of a sudden got stuck with a bunch of tables outside on the patio as well… so we didn’t see him for a good 20 – 30 min. Not happy campers at the end, as we needed to be somewhere and were pretty delayed. Hmm. So that was breakfast in Omaha. I’ll try somewhere else next time.

The bakery almost overwhelmed me coming in the door with choices but I was quickly ushered to my seat and left with a mound of menu choices that made me head spin. How would I ever pick something? But finally I decided on the French Riviera scramble — three eggs with bacon, spinach, artichoke chutney, avocado, tomato and hollandaise sauce. I chose right!!! This scramble is so tasty that I forgot to start the review with how my meal started — the caramel pecan roll served warm from the oven. Deliciousness beyond!!!

Came here for lunch and wasn’t impressed with my meal. I got the chicken and waffles, and while the waffle was okay… The chicken was dry and not flavorful. It came with two small pieces of bacon, which were cold. For $ 13, it was absolutely not worth it. The desserts though… Don’t get me started. Sooooo many choices and all so delicious looking.

The bakery here is amazing! Every dessert, baked bread, pie, cookie, you name it is delicious! The menu has so many options. The breakfast menu is really awesome too! Who knew there were so many varieties of breakfast to choose from. The quiche with hollandaise is delicious, the waffles are mouthwatering, and the cinnamon rolls are pretty much hand delivered from heaven! The thing I have to say is the absolute best is the French onion soup. It’s the best that I have had anywhere! When you come here next I would recommend a bowl of French onion soup and cinnamon roll with a cherry limeade! Yuummmmm!
