Don’t let the shopping center fool you. This place is a hidden gem! The food is some of the best Latin food in the greater Jacksonville area. It appears to be family run. Nothing fancy, but the food will amaze you. We didn’t even have time to take a picture of our appetizer. We were too eager to eat it! Try the empenadas, chuletas, arroz y habichuelas, chicharrones. Try it all! And then don’t forget dessert. The pastries are da bomb!

Went here for an evening meal with my Spanish class. Our group had 2 native Spanish speakers in it who are regulars there and gave us suggestions as to what to eat. A no frills restaurant but very clean. The waitress was very friendly and helpful as we attempted to order in Spanish and practice our new skills. They were trialling a new menu and some of the items on it would not be available until the following week, but our group of 10 all managed to order something we wanted. The food was very good — I had the steak tostones and it was delicious. I also tried a bit of the tres leches — very tasty but the portion was so large that I would not have been able to eat a whole slice! Very much a nice family restaurant where I would be happy to take children. The waitress gave us separate checks without being asked and was very welcoming. I will definitely return as the meal was freshly prepared, excellent quality and taste and a good price.

The roast pork was the best I’ve had in a long time — tender with a delicious flavor. The plantains were very sweet and excellently prepared. My fellow diners enjoyed their fried pork cubes — tender and oh so tasty!

This has to be my favorite Puerto Rican restaurant in Orange Park/Jacksonville. This evening I have the steak sandwich and finished with Flan… this was a first time for the steak sandwich(a cherry worth busting). Others in the group had the legendary Cuban sandwich an all time favorite. My favorite meal here is still the roast pork… can’t wait for my next craving for potato rolls and sweet plantains served by a great wait staff.

I went to the location in Orange park next to Lowe’s. I had brought my close Puerto Rican friend and his family. It started of well with I believe was the owner. She was very friendly. That was the good part. We looked at the menu and it seemed to be very pricey for Puerto Rican food. We assumed that the portions were big. But later found it to be half of what majority of that type of restaurant would serve. We were still ok with that but the food was dry and not good. Yellow rice was actually red and tasted more like Mexican rice and the soup was over powered by cilantro. The thing that disappointed me the most is the server(I believe is the owner daughter spoke in Spanish to her mom to say that my friends wife is lying). We didn’t indicate we knew Spanish. Very disappointed. I wanted a good Puerto Rican restaurant to go to. I love Puerto Rican food

This is a REAL Puerto Rican restaurant with the right seasoning or sazón criollo. We had some great appetizers. The alcapurrias were superb! For dinner all the plates were excellent, including the roasted pork, while fried snapper, the mofongo, and the cod salad. We highly recommend this place to all, but especially to Puerto Ricans. Buen provecho!

I don’t understand why this place is not packed out open to close. Very good(and authentic) food. Price is not bad. Quite hospitable hosts. Family run, I believe, since La Abuelita was wrapping silverware. All in all, a very nice experience. Everything on the menu is very good and it’s a quiet, out the way Puerto Rican diner. Def 5 stars.

Man, this place is good. My meal was garlic heavy and I f*cking loved it. I’m def gonna come back, hospitality was nice. It was just me and my 1.5 year old son. Anyways, next time I come through I’m gonna try sandwiches.

Nice décor with Puerto Rican music playing, ordered the Tostones(fried mashed plantais) as an appetizer to share. i chose the #24 Fried Tender Pork cubes substituted my Mofongo with a Trifongo for $ 1 extra. wife chose a pork sandwich in between two huge tostones. we were surprised how long it took just for our tostones to come out but then realized they were making a huge phone in order, after that was made, our food came out almost all together This was our second time trying Puerto Rican food and this was a HUGE difference than the last place we tried. Wife and i were blown away! It was plenty of food, everything was CRAZYDELICIOUS!

I love this little place across the street from OPHS. I always get the special at lunch, it is reasonably priced and super fresh. Their red beans and rice taste just like the ones in Puerto Rico. I love the pork, but they do not have it everyday. Check this place out, you will not be disappointed .

Decently priced, free soda for in uniform military. Everything made fresh to order, with lots of items to choose from. Family run, and shaded from the evil sun outside. Worth visiting FORSURE.

My first review ever on Unilocal and I couldn’t have waited for a better restaurant. Lunch time in Orange Park had me craving a sandwich. I could have easily gone to the nearby Winn Dixie or Publix but decided against this for obvious reasons and drove the extra mile or two to give El Palermo a shot. The sign is easy to see from Kinglsey and I got a front row parking spot. From the outside there’s nothing special. Your standard strip mall restaurant. Unassuming. When I walked in what struck me first were the clean white table cloths contrasted with beautiful colorful paintings on the wall depicting what can only be described as paradise. I felt at ease and was greeted with a big smile. The woman working the front of the restaurant gave me a menu and I skimmed it quickly, noticing the Cuban sandwich and promptly put down the menu. I ordered the Cuban with sweet plantains instead of fries. That wasn’t it though. Don’t stop there. At the front counter you’ll notice a pastry case. There were three pastries to choose from and all homemade. All flaky. Dusted with bits of granulated brown sugar and hiding inside was something sweet. The moment the lady told me that one of the pastries had guava jam and cream cheese I didn’t hesitate. Now that my order was in I waited while sipping a potent espresso made fresh right behind the counter. To say that the service was excellent would be an understatement. You feel at home here. It’s nothing short of your mom’s kitchen, assuming you only have the fondest memories of your moms kitchen. If you don’t, think of something else. Within 10 minutes my sandwich was ready and about 10 minutes after that I had consumed every last morsel of food. The sweet plantains were plump, juicy and savory as a couple dashes of salt balanced out its naturally distinctive profile. The Cuban. Oh the Cuban. Listen people of Unilocal.Orange park is now host to the regions best Cuban sandwich. Hands down. To try and describe it would do an injustice. Just drive there and order it for yourself. As for the pastry. If they opened up a store next to them that only sold that and espresso, Starbucks would go out of business. After all this, I guess you could say I loved the place. I’ll be going back again shortly. Maybe even tonight. –Happy Eating!
