Astro Orbiter

If it’s between this and Magic Carpets of Aladdin — don’t pick this one — head to Adventureland (they are the same kind of ride). The way you sit in this is rather odd — the smaller person sits basically on top of the larger — which is super uncomfortable. And the views of the park are good, but not good enough to wait more than 10 minutes. Don’t waste a fast pass on this one. And don’t go during peak times.

Tomorrowland, Tomorrowland, I love ya, Tomorrowland, you’re only a century away. Whoever thought this would be so much fun? My only gripe is that it’s too short. It’s fun that you could control the height of when you’re zipping around the «planet.» It’s a real fun ride when you have someone to go with. The pilot controls how high or how low it goes. The person behind, me usually, just sits there and enjoys the scenery.
I would do this and usually the lines are pretty minimal. Enjoy!

The Astro Orbiter is a fun ride in the center of Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. You first wait in line for the elevator and as you get closer everyone in your party is handed a blank plastic card of a different color for some reason. After you take the elevator upstairs, the cards are collected. I’d love to know the reason for them. There are more rocket ships than there are colors, and they don’t ask who is riding with each other so I can not discern any reason for them. Whatever. The ride itself is a fun rocketship you sit in with a wide seatbelt that rides around you and your pilot. The pilot gets to control the vertical rise and fall of the ship, which my six-​year-​old niece absolutely loved. I am a short grown man, and as this ship tilted to the side during the spin, I did feel like I was going to fall over the side seat belt or no. I’m sure that doesn’t happen, but place your bags accordingly. We did like that this gave one of the best views in the Magic Kingdom, and it had us later exploring several areas we spotted from the air.

This ride is a little gem and must be experienced atleast once. It’s very similar to the Dumbo flying elephants or magic carpets but with more thrills and maybe a little hurl.
Guests have to ride an elevator to the top of the building where the Tomorrowland people mover is located. Once you pick a rocket it’s off you go! Usually two people can fit comfortably in one rocket but two adults will definitely have to get pretty close as it is a snug fit! The smaller passenger rides in the front and the larger passenger on the back. Passengers are pretty much strapped in together. Hope your copilot showered!
The Rockets spin pretty fast in my opinion and you have the option of making them ascend (by pulling the level towards you) or descending throughout the ride. At one point the rocket feels like it’s very tilted when you’re high up, making it one big thrill and a whole lot of scary for someone afraid of heights.
This attraction has been around for so many years and truly a classic here. I don’t recommend riding it after eating a meal and hang on to your belongings. People have been known to leave stuff behind in their rocket :-)

It’s amazing how much fun a little ride like this can be. When Disneyland (and subsequently Walt Disney World) were being constructed, the space program was on fire. So they captured that excitement in a ride even little kids could love.
It’s a simple circular ride, which the passengers can make go up and down as they wish. One thing this ride does have over all it’s ‘cousins’, is the view. You get a great view of the park and surrounding area when you’re up in the air.
It’s been years since I’ve ridden this ride and the line always seems too long compared to the length of the ride, but I just might have to try this one again when they reopen at the end of September.

Cute ride. The wait time was only 15 min so went ahead and got in line. You enter an elevator to get into rockets. You can control the rocket and move it upwards and downwards so that was pretty neat. It actually goes pretty fast giving you a nice dizzy feel. The view is nice. If the wait time is more than 15 min, I would skip this one though. Pretty similar to a fair ride.

Great for any age, but better experience for kids from 4 – 12. Usually the line is a little long and the entrance through an elevator is kind of uncomfortable.

This ride is just like Dumbo and Aladdin. The best part is the view, you get a god view over the park. I wish this ride had a fast pass, because it’s definitely needed.

We rode the astro orbiter for the first time after many trips staring at it. My little guy and not so little me piled into the car at dusk and had an awesome view.

Nice little ride along the same lines as Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, Dumbo, Triceratops spin at AK.
There is a bit of a wait even on low crowd days. You take an elevator to the top where you load the ride. The ride seemed a little run down, in need of a fresh coat of paint or something.
The rocket ships were a little tough to get in to. For an able bodied person, it’s not too difficult but for someone with mobility issues it might be too tough. Also, it seemed like it would be a bit of a squeeze for larger bodied people.
It was neat looking out over the Magic Kingdom. I wanted to go back at night and ride them again, but we kept forgetting.
Probably will skip next trip unless we get a chance to ride at night.

The ride is on top of a building, you have to take an elevator up to get to the ride. It’s a rocket theme. No shield covering you or protection. Very open ride, you can touch your rocketship while up high in the air. Over looks the park.
When I go back to Disney i’m skipping this ride. Not a fan.

It’s a fine ride, but I’d skip it if the lines are long. It loads VERY slowly, so you’re in for a long wait.
This is just kind of an adults version of Dumbo — it’s extra high, and you have to take an elevator to get to it. From there, you’re in control over how high you fly. I don’t do well with heights, but had no problem here — I rode us around at the highest possible level and enjoyed the views of the Magic Kingdom. I do recommend riding it at night so you can appreciate all the lights throughout the MK.

An excellent ride with a fabulous view high above the Magic Kingdom. I’m afraid of heights but still love this ride.

How did I forget about this ride? In fact, I hardly remembering riding it as a kid. My little one pointed up in the air and said, «Daddy what is that ride?» I looked up and said, «Wow I have no idea and we went up to check it out!»
As I was spinning in the spaceship, it all came back to me… I did fly on this ride, when I was a little kid. It was a fun experience for me to have with my little one. It is moments like this where two generations can enjoy the same ride and maybe one day we will be here with my little ones little ones and we will get three generations on here all at once. Probably the closest thing we will get to someone in our family being an astronaut.
The ride goes in a circle just like Dumbo or the Alladin magic carpet rides. The difference with this ride is the height. Yes you are high in the air as you spin and you can see everything from up here… so enjoy the views of the park.
I can understand how I have missed this ride for all of these years, even to the point that I forget it even existed. There is so much to take in at Disney and sometimes it takes a child eyes to see the things you are missing. I am so lucky that I had a pair of young eyes with me or else we would have missed this moment. This ride is located near Buzz Lightyears Space Rangers ride. Just look up and you will see the rocket ships going in a circle. Okay stop looking up and get in line for launch! Have a safe fun flight and be a kid again!

Was a fun ride, kinda cramped the wait wasnt really worth it i guess. You were in a little rocket that went up and down and a round. Was a cool view of the park above tomorrowland though!

This attraction is much like Dumbo in Fantasyland and Magic Carpets of Aladdin in Adventureland only it’s really high and you have the views are spectacular. This is a favorite of mine because of the great views! If you or one of your little ones happen to be scared of heights, you may want to skip this one.
It’s a simple ride that goes in circles while you get to control the up ad down movement of your car, but it’s still pretty darn fun. And did I mention those great views?! :)

We jumped on the Astro Orbiter while waiting on our Space Mountain Fast Pass.
The best way to describe it is as a faster take on the Dumbo Ride, that takes you quite higher then it’s childlike counterpart.
Clearly as a kid the fun of making your very own space ship soar into the sky must be an extremely thrilling experience. But for me, as an adult, it was a nice way to get a pretty awesome aerial view of most of the Magic Kingdom. An added bonus was being able to view the construction going on over at the «New Fantasyland» section of the park. My opinion, that’s going to be very impressive when it’s completed later this year!
The ride takes all of about 5 or so minutes, but like anything else in Disney, the staff adds their own little shtick to add to your enjoyment.

I liked that we had to take an elevator up to it. I think Disney does a good job with this ride in controlling the crowds. I also like how it fits in with the Tomorrowland theme. Not only do you get to ride, but you get to shoot too. My son loved the interaction.
One gets a good view of the park from atop this ride. It’s good amusement park fun.

Neat little ride. You’re above Tomorrowland, spinning in a circle, contolling the up and down movement.
My kids love going on this ride but prefer to stay at one level and not go up and down.

The Astro Orbitor is a rocket-​spinner attraction featured at all five Magic Kingdom-​style parks at Walt Disney Resorts around the world. Although each ride may have a different name, all share the same premise of rockets spinning around a central monument. As each form of the attraction appeared, new designs and locations have been implemented to fit with changing schemes of several Tomorrowlands.
No form of the attraction existed in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World until 1974, three years after the park’s opening, when Tomorrowland underwent a massive expansion including the creation of Space Mountain, a new location for the Disneyland-​attraction, Carousel of Progress, and the WEDWay PeopleMover. Star Jets was considered the focal point of Tomorrowland due to its soaring, spinning rockets and central location.
This version of the attraction was based on the Disneyland version, in both location (on top of the PeopleMover platform) and in style (both feature a large Saturn V rocket). However the attraction vehicles were different than any other previous form as they were much larger and featured a flatter back-​end and larger tail fins. Each of the 12 open-​air vehicles was attached to the central axis by a 20 foot arm. The vehicles held up to two passengers who circled round and round, 80 feet above the ground, while controlling their ascent and descent with a metal control stick.
In 1994, the attraction was re-​designed and re-​opened as the Astro Orbiter, part of the complete renovation of the park’s Tomorrowland section. The attraction featured a highly stylized iron-​work tower in lieu of the center rocket along with various planets on the outside of the attraction as to appear as if the rockets were weaving between the planets. The ride at the Magic Kingdom does 11 rotations per minute and averages 1.2 million miles a year.[2] In the narration for the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, the ride is referenced as the «League of Planets Astro Orbiter.»
