The food gets all three stars, but just barely. the front of house is lacking in a big way. The service was horrible, the table was sticky, we had to ask for our salads, and those came out after the main course. We had to ask for bread and when that came out it was 2 slices of sour dough toast, every one else around us had nice looking dinner rolls. The wine was from a box, and the bar was severely lacking. When you pay for a nice dinning experience, all of these added up to a huge disappointment. The food was passable but clearly not executed properly. my wife’s shrimp were overcooked, and the bourbon sauce on my green beans tasted like they simply poured a shoot over them. We were here for our Anniversary and were were looking forward to a great experience, but this was not it. I would recommend you eat somewhere else. this place just falls short.

We ate at this creole place twice and I am now a fan of their cuisine. Our waitress actually gave us the recipe for the salad dressing they use! We tried the lamb and the beef tip special. Both tasted outstanding. Lamb came with sweet potato mash and squash in a wonderful sauce. It was so tender. Beef tips were served with creamy asparagus and crab meat atop mashed potatoes. It was also tasty. Desserts are also outstanding. Their bread pudding is fantastic and the chocolate mousse was unlike any I’ve had before. It was much more rich than regular mousse, almost like a truffle. I like that they actually FEED you as well. We were both pleasantly stuffed after dinner and dessert here. If you come here, bring your appetite!

This wonderful Cajun restaurant is hugely underrated in my opinion. We had a thoroughly pleasant dining experience here. Portion sizes were large, which is something I’m noticing other restaurants are skimping on more and more. Also, the service was excellent. Our waitress was really cool. In fact, after we had been seated in a remote part of the restaurant, she moved us to a better table without us even having to ask. The food was very good as well. We had the crab cakes, crawfish and corn bisque, and the shrimp & grits, all of which we enjoyed. For dessert, the bread pudding and chocolate mousse. I especially liked their desserts. Best mousse ever! The patrons sitting near us asked to see the chef so they could praise the food. When he passed us we spoke to him as well and let him know how much we enjoyed our meal.

Ate here the other night for a large family gathering. Food was good, service was top notch. In a small town like ouray there’s not a ton of decent places for good food so this is one to keep in mind. Only 3 beers on tap but Of the 15 or so of us I don’t think any of us had a single complaint. Atmosphere was quiet and peaceful though not 5 star status due to a few minor décor and maintenance things. The bathrooms which were about one step above an outhouse… Absolutely must be addressed. If the bathrooms were redone, clean and fresh and some of the small things like busted baseboard heaters, sagging rope lighting on the ceiling etc were fixed this place would certainly be 5 stars. Again, food and service were excellent. Most patrons will leave very satisfied.

Rating a restaurant after seven years? Why not. Just wanted to say that meals were okay, prices high and staff very nice. We’ve been here summer ’08. Enjoyed this kind of family dining restaurant. Although not the best it was very amercian style.

Went here for breakfast. It’s a very nice place. The biscuits and potatoes are quite good. Would really like to check out their dinner.

Not good. After driving through snow and ice, we arrived in Ouray and really needed a place to eat something and relax. We walked down Main St and decided to try Cavallos. Even though they close at 2, they were nice and didn’t hassle us about being seated at 1:30. The restaurant is a little old, and the décor tries to mimic grand Louisiana décor. The servers are nice. I had the Down Da Bayou omelet with a biscuit; my husband had the ham and cheese. The omelet had shrimp and crawfish. The crawfish was either frozen or canned, but it was tiny. The shrimp seemed underdone but I was starving and didn’t care. The entire omelet itself was underwhelming and greasy and did not settle well with my stomach. The accompanying potatoes were hard and dry. The biscuit was touted as homemade but it seemed canned, like a Pilsbury biscuit. The ham and cheese was not very good either. It was OK, kind of what you would expect from a deli — basic but OK. It was underwhelming. Prices were reasonable for a rural mountain town serving seafood, but it just wasn’t good. Kind of felt like a free continental breakfast at a hotel would be sufficient and negate the need to spend $ 30+ here. I do not plan on stopping in again.

Cavallos is a New Orleans themed restaurant which plays jazz and features N.O. Style food. I had a delicious andouille stuffed chile relleno on a tasty red cabbage slaw. It was a nice fusion of southwest chile flavor with a Cajun twist. They serve breakfast brunch and lunch all day. I thought this was a fun find on our western Colorado road trip. Our service was great and the food was nicely presented.
