A huge hug of gratitude to Roman from Over The Rainbow Cupcakes. I wish we lived in the desert Over The Rainbow would be our go to bakery for any and every special event. You bet we’ll be stopping by whenever we are in the desert. So glad we booked with them promptly. The hardest part of working with Roman and Leah was choosing which out of this world desserts to offer our guests. Hands down this place just made one of the best tasting cakes I’ve ever had. My friend got a two-​tier vanilla cake with blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Cream cheese frosting. Seriously guys it was soo amazing. I wish I would have taken a picture of the cake. Keep up the awesome work OTR, we will definitely come see you guys when we visit Palm Springs again. I believe that everyone needs a birthday cake for their birthday.
Not a pie.
Not a cookie.
Not a crème brûlée.
Just a good, old fashioned birthday cake with buttercream frosting with candles atop it.
So, when my nearest and dearest — such as my amazing designer friend @ChristopherKennedyInc in Palm Springs — turns 40 in an epic weekend-​long celebration, my gift to him is a cake to be remembered for the ages.
To carry out this task, there’s only one man I call in Palm Springs: Roman of @OverTheRainbowdesserts.
One of my very favorite bakers in the world (one taste of his cake and you’ll see why), Roman took my & Christopher’s husband @DavidwClark’s design elements and Christopher-​centric details such as actual pieces from Christopher’s furniture line, and created fondant replications of the pieces.
But he didn’t stop there.
He also had a custom cake topper made by @CaliforniaLustre of the exact palm leaf that’s on Christopher’s home goods line.
While everyone mooned over the beautiful cake before it was cut, mutiple guests passionately exclaimed after tasting it that it was the BEST cake they’d ever eaten.
And, no wonder with Roman’s custom-​designed Spring Citrus cake flavor, which was three-​different hued layers with tastes of orange, lemon, lime and tangerine complimenting the most delicious buttercream frosting ever just beautifully.
It was a citrus party in your mouth!
And, it was SO good, I just MAY have asked @christopherkennedyinc @davidwclark5 if I could take a piece home with me.
To say I’m over the moon for @overtherainbowdesserts would be an understatement.

Thee best cupcakes & more! Best, unique, rich flavors and creations! Nothing/​no one in the desert compares! So artistic and over the top, that you almost don’t even want to bite into the dessert! Never fails to impress – highly, highly recommended! If you haven’t experienced this place, you must!

My husband and I just celebrated our second wedding anniversary. It was such a beautiful day for so many reasons but one of the best things to come out of that day was our discovery of Over the Rainbow Cupcakes. Not only are the owner and genius baker, Roman Blas, and his staff super friendly, but the cupcakes are original, fresh and absolutely scrumptious! Roman designed our wedding cake, which was the centerpiece of our dessert display on our wedding day. And the cake was surrounded by some of OTR’s best tasting cupcakes. Our favorite has to be the maple bacon pancake cupcake. It’s like putting an entire Sunday brunch in your mouth with just one bite and is – by far – THE BEST CUPCAKE WE’VE EVER HAD!!! That’s why, every time we make it back out to the desert, we always pick up a dozen or two to take back with us to LA to share with our friends. OTR is our favorite place for desserts, and we love that we can relive a part of wedding day every time we pay them a visit. And we plan on doing so for the many happy years to come.

How very sad. I work in a special program for children with disabilities and placed an order for cupcakes several weeks in advance. After not receiving a reply to my first email I wrote a second, receiving confirmation that my cupcakes were going to be ready today after 12:00 noon. I arrived at 12:30 and was told there weren’t completely finished. I explained that these cupcakes were for children and a time was designated for them to be eaten, and the children would be going home soon thereafter. I simply didn’t have time to wait. After some confusion by the lady in the front — nice but completely confused — I discovered that my special order of funfetti cupcakes with a specific and requested design was not ready — indeed the design from the picture I emailed had not been printed and the funfetti cupcakes I requested has not been made. Ultimately I was handed a bag of cupcakes from their regular supply — Meyer lemon with pomegranate frosting, chocolate, and strawberry cheesecake — and told there was no charge. While this is a kind gesture, I am serving these cupcakes to preschool children whose tastes are probably not going to enjoy the lemon or cheesecake flavors; this is why I chose funfetti. I would’ve really rather paid for what is ordered.
I know this company is doing notable business with famous people and is receiving extensive publicity, but I work in Palm Springs all year and am disappointed that my go-​to for delicious cupcakes is no longer in the position to fulfill regular orders for the local customer. I’m especially disappointed that Roman couldn’t even come out and apologize. The woman out front was very kind and apologetic but the extra gesture by him would’ve made me feel like he cared about me returning.

Four years ago, Roman did the cupcakes for our wedding. We are dessert freaks, so you know these cupcakes had to be good. Years later, our guests still talk about these and we get to relive the moment by picking up a dozen cupcakes whenever we are in town. Love Over The Rainbow!!!
Bottomline: These cupcakes make me want to sing and dance!!!

If I could give negative stars with this place I would. Owners seem uninterested in customer complaints and customer service. We stopped in last week on Tuesday and received no help. Not even an acknowledgement. So we wound up walking out. Very sad in the customer service. we have been there in the past and there was a guy up there who seemed very scattered and in a hurry to get customers out as quickly as possible. My personal advice is that your customers are your bread and butter, without them you would have no business at all. Have patience for people and get a better attitude.

My husband and I got cupcakes from here the other day and loved them so much! The Man who helped us, was very sweet and got us in and out quickly! I will defiantly Be back. And for any one who loves cheesecake, try the Brownie Cheesecake Cupcake! It’s to die for! Thank you for your service!

THE BEST!!! I mean THE BEST!!! I’m not a sweets person but the salted, caramel cupcake sent goosebumps down my spine! It was the best cupcake, cake, ice cream, cookie, etc I have ever had in my life! It melted in my mouth, I have never experienced such an amazing cupcake! I’ll be coming back with friends who love desserts as they will love it!

Great flavors, moist, delicious. Even the Gluten Free cupcake was a hit for my sis.
They do wedding and occasion cakes (rainbow cake inside, etc) that look AMAZING!

My response to him:
I was not aware that you had replied to me as I no longer use that email address and instead I use my married name.
I understand that you only felt that you had to apologize after seeing my review on Unilocal but not after me leaving your shop very upset with a cake that I did not ordered and a couple hours before my wedding.
When I originally emailed you I sent you a picture from YOUR OWN website and requested for our cake to look JUST like it. Your only response to me was that «you love working with succulents and to choose the flavor of the cake.» — You NEVER mentioned or asked about who would provide the succulents and that if you did that it would be extra as you did not even give me quotes to begin with. Leah called me with a total and I paid over the phone. She also never mentioned what the price included.
This was my first wedding and there was no way to know that when someone orders a wedding cake they would have to provide their own decorations. I never saw that information on your website. What I did see and mentioned to you was there was no consistency on the size of cakes VS. slices. You gave me one size and your website contradicted what you suggested. I also did not worked with a coordinator, I planned my own wedding and even had to pick up my own cake and had to deal with your rude staff as I was close to tears.
I will have to decline your offer for another cake in the future as this whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth and just walking in to your shop will bring back those memories.
You mentioned the bad quality of my picture, did you really thing that I would have any good pictures of that cake when it was not what I ordered? That cake was hidden from our guest and only took pictures to send to Unilocal as I was embarrassed of it. -
My advice to anyone that orders here, make sure you get in writing EVERYTHING that you want. I love supporting local business when I travel but this would never be one of them, and we visit Palm Springs a lot.

So here I was on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving needing a great birthday cake for Friday. What I thought would be a solution dried up on me at the last moment. I called one bakery and they insisted on a deposit to be paid in cash in person. I was 105 miles away.
Cut to these wonderful people. I found their website and located their menu for the day after Thanksgiving. I ordered a red velvet cake with the appropriate greeting on it asking if they could fit me in. Wednesday morning, I get an email, «no problem, you can pick it up after noon on Friday.»
The cake was huge, it was beautiful. It was delicious. I can’t think of any other place id want to go than «over the rainbow.» They saved me from a jam in the tastiest way possible. Thanks, guys and gals… I’ll be back next time.

Finally got my maple bacon cupcake. Absolutely delicious. My bday is coming up and definitely going to get it done here.

In 2012, Roman made a guitar-​shaped cake as a surprise groom’s cake for our wedding reception and it was a huge hit!
Recently a friend and I went to Jake’s to get our favorite salted caramel peanut butter chocolate cupcakes and while they didn’t have them that day, we learned that Jake’s gets all of their baked goods from Roman and that he has a store front now! We hightailed it over to Smoketree and the cupcakes were just as good as we’d remembered — it’d been 3 years since we were back in Palm Springs, so our memories could have deceived us :)
The girl working behind the counter on Friday afternoon was very friendly and shared our enthusiasm for the cupcakes. Adding this location to our «Must Eat’ list for Palm Springs!

I have changed my review from one star to two stars because Roman, the owner contacted me through Unilocal,offered me a refund and was apologetic for my experience after seeing the picture of the cake I special ordered.
I am still upset and embarrassed over the incident because I told everyone for months I was special ordering a cake for the bday party so I will not ever go back here or recommend it even though I go to Palm Springs twice a month.

Recently, I’ve been watching way too many episodes of Cupcake Wars, so it only makes since that I’ve had a craving for some extremely delicious cupcakes.
I have a sweet tooth, but it’s really selective — I don’t eat just anything. If I’m craving chocolate I’m not going to buy some Hershey’s bar… Pft! I’m going to eat imported Belgian chocolate! No grocery store cupcakes for me. You get my point ;)
I’ve had my fair share of deliciously made gourmet cupcakes & Over the Rainbow cupcakes satisfied this sweet tooth.
I went there today (first time), asked for vegan and/​or gluten free cupcakes, but they ran out, so opted for their regular cupcakes. Got two: Brownie Cheesecake & Banana Toffee. Both cupcakes looked really heavy to eat, so I was hesitant… BUT a single bite into each of the cupcakes had me craving more. Way better than I expected! These two cupcakes were moist, light, & the frosting isn’t thick — it’s light, creamy, & decadent. I can’t tolerate that much sugar, but these were absolutely perfect. Best cupcake experience in the desert, hands down! Btw that Toffee on the Banana Toffee cupcake — perfect amount of crunch.
You guys are awesome, especially for that check-​in offer.

The cupcakes have shrunk visibly since the last time we got some a few months back. The prices have stayed the same. A couple flavors may be worth it but in general $ 3 is steep for such a small cupcake.
