Terrible beyond words. He has an awful bedside manner and failed to move me toward any answers. I had a similar experience as(the other reviewer) Josh where Dr. McCaffrey convinced me I needed a tube stuck down my throat as part of my exam. He assured me that it was covered by my insurance yet I was charged $ 500 out of pocket for this procedure. Also, the results of this procedure are no where to be found. There are several really good doctors at PAMF but McCaffrey is not one of them. Avoid him like a plague!

I am quite surprised by some other reviews. Are they real patients? I picked this doctor based on the reviews, and it was a big mistake. I went in for a general consultation, as I had ear wax that was affecting my hearing. He supposedly inserted a tube to suck the wax out, but I was back at the same situation less than two weeks afterwards. I guess it was not a thorough cleaning after all. Instead, he persuaded me to let him take a peek at the back of my throat, a procedure that he can charge extra. For less than ten minutes of face time, he managed to maximize the charge to close to $ 1000, with significant out-of-pocket expense for me. Definitely an avoid.

I went to Dr. McCaffrey for a rather short appointment for a second opinion. I was very happy with the appointment: he took the time to listen to my story, examined me in a thorough and convincing manner, and made a clear assessment. Friendly, personable, and professional.

Ear, nose, and throat specialist at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation. I choose him off of my insurance provider’s website without any information because I was new to the area. Dr. McCaffrey was professional and extremely nice. He was ahead of schedule, so I saw him within 5 minutes of getting in. I don’t know if that’s typical, but it was much appreciated. If you need to see a specialist and have nothing to go on but a list of names, I would recommend trying him first. While the Medical Foundation itself is rather large and difficult to find your way around, it was not as bad as going to a hospital. Overall experience was great.
