Having just moved to Paradise from a part of the country where Asian food. Is almost entirely absent, we have been delighted to find Moon Gate. I usually do not vary my orders much, but I recommend the things I really like. Potstickers for one. I order them steamed instead of fried. I also ask for some sweet and sour sauce and a bit of hot mustard on the side, in addition to the sauce they normally serve them with. I also love their vegetable egg rolls. Crispy and very tasty. Soups too are great. My current favorite is the egg flower soup. Everywhere else I have soup with this name, it has been simple egg drop soup. At Moon Gate, this soup could almost be a meal by itself. It does have the shards of in situ cooked, but it also has whole shrimp and chunks of pork. Even if you’re by yourself, order this soup, you can take the extra home to continue enjoying there. My husband has ordered Kung Pao chicken, had just the right amount of spiciness, we both agreed. Now, a word of caution here. Twice we have eaten at MoonGate after 8 p.m.and both times some of the food tasted«off.» This surprised mr because I am used to eating at Chinese restaurants that stay open late and keep serving their wonderful food right up to closing time. II have begin to put 2+2 together an believe I have an answer that explains this situation. Paradise is most certainly not New York– San Francisco-Boston-Hong Kong or other places that have great Chinese food at all hours. This is Paradise, California, a rather backwater town which located in an incredibly scenic area and which pretty much rolls up its sidewalks at night. So, Moon Gate closes much earlier than most comparable hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurants do elsewhere. Also, I have gotten the impression that much of the food is cooked in larger batches early in the evening. So, if it has been sitting in a steam table or quietly simmering on the back of their stove for 3 – 4 hours before getting eaten, it would not surprise me for food ordered after 8 p.m. to be «off.» So here is what I recommend: do try this wonderful restaurant but go early. Sixish would be about right. All of the food will be freshly made and will be uniformly tasty. Si far, that has worked for us.

Terrible food. Can’t complain about the service itself. But it is the worst food I have ever eaten. I will never go there again.

My girls and I decided that we wanted Chinese food this evening. I have been disappointed many times before trying to find food palatable on the mainland US after having spent 3 years in Guam and being introduced to the fantastic true cuisine provided by native Chinese folks. That being said… I was VERY pleasantly surprised with the food we got from here! I read several of the other reviews and was skeptical but figured we’d give it a try anyway. The portions were more than adequate to feeds the 3 of us and still have some leftover for lunch tomorrow. I really liked their Crab and Cream Cheese Wontons(I had never had them before). MY oldest daughter, who LOVES shrimp, raved about the shrimp fried rice. MY youngest daughter, of course, loved the steamed rice… lol I have tried many other restaurants since being back in the states over the past few years and this is the ONLY one in this are that I WILL return to! More than once too… lol It helped that the staff we very friendly and even engaged my kids in conversation regarding food and cultural differences. Way to go Moongate!!!

Bet Chinese food in paradise. This is a family run restaurant they have been in paradise for a long time. My favorites are the War Wonton soup, Black Mushroom chicken and the Broccoli Beef. If you are on a low sodium diet you can ask them to put less salt in the meal and they will oblige. they seem to take pride in their food and the staff is always friendly.

Only like there chow mein! Don’t like anything else we have tried. Only went three time however. Chinese food in Paradise in general isn’t to our liking. There is only one place we haven’t tried yet.

So… if you want gourmet dining this is not your place. If you are looking for a decent Chinese food joint on the ridge then look no further. Moongate has a great atmosphere that is welcoming to families of all sizes, the food is good, and the prices are not bad. Oh, and the kicker is that the owner of this family run restraunt greets every customer as they walk in. When was the last time the owner of the Olive Garden said«Hi» to you? I’ve been coming to Moongate for a long time now and I’ve never been disappointed. As a regular I would recommend that you try the orange chicken.

Best Chinese restaurant on the ridge. We’ve tried many Chinese Restaurants up in Paradise and Magalia and this one is by far the best. The staff is friendly, speaks English and the restaurant is clean and food was hot and tasty. We would go back again.

Moving up from the San Francisco Bay Area this is probably the best Chinese place in town. I enjoy their service, and the food is good. I won’t eat Chinese food anywhere else in town. I’m becoming quite the regular.

Decent, standard, American Chinese food. Greasy and unoriginal, but certainly never awful.

I had high hopes, but was disappointed in the food. Definitely skip the appetizer platter(its not appetizing), of what we ordered only the Orange Chicken was OK, but nothing to crow about. The prices are reasonable but I doubt I will be going back. There is better Chinese in Magalia @ Happy Day

Just moved to town and my fiancé and I were looking for good chinese food –Moongate did not disappoint. For being in a small mountain town it was good & tasty. Favorite thing is their low mein noodles and vegetable fried rice –super, super good. If you’re in town –give it a shot.

The service is excellent and I’ve never had any food that I didn’t love. Do yourself a favor and order the homemade potstickers. Not only are they incredible… but if you go during the lunch hour, most times you can watch them up front making the delicious little morsels! Also…they give you the option of having vegetarian hot & sour soup! LOVE this! I basically order the same thing everytime, now that I have discovered the veggie hot & sour and the potstickers.

Went here when we were in town visiting family. We went for lunch and the place had a decent amount of people in there. Even a lot of to go orders. We ordered way too much food but everything sounded good. We weren’t disappointed, everything was delicious. The mongolian beef had a bit of a sweet taste to it, the potstickers were yummy as well as the fried rice. This appears to be a popular spot in town.
