This is a little gem tucked away in Good Foods Market, a grocery store that specializes in Armenian and other middle eastern food. The meat market is separately owned, so you pay for your meat at the counter rather than with your other groceries. And what incredibly tasting meat it is! I have yet to find more flavorful and fresh ground beef! There is such a difference between their freshly ground beef compared to the bland, flavorless meat you get at the grocery store! I always get a half/half mixture… Half pound of their leanest to half pound of the regular. Perfect for burgers, meatloaf, and I like to make stuffed grape leaves. There really IS a huge difference! And for a true treat… Get the pre-marinated shish and chicken kabob meat. This is the most tender and flavorful kabob you will ever BBQ! I believe it’s filet meat so you get the tenderness and just the right balance of marinade to meat. They use my Armenian grandma’s recipe for the marinade, which they mix freshly… no bottled marinades here! The best part about them is the price… so reasonable for what you are getting. They might not speak much English, but it’s enough to convey what you want, and it’s amazing what a smile and gracious attitude can accomplish in communication! Once you have your dinner meats from hindoyan, don’t forget to pick up some fresh pita bread, fruits and veggies and a visit to the deli over in The Good Foods market to round off your meal! If you are lucky, you can find some of Varso’s homemade taboule or vegetarian stuffed grape leaves in the prepared foods refrigerated section!
