A+ dentist known for his meticulous crowns. My wife and I have been seeing him for over 10 years. Dr. Shinto does flawless work.

Let me start off by saying. I absolutely hate going to the dentist! But Dr Shinto’s expertise and very calming dimeaner. Make you feel like you are in good hands and there is nothing to worry about. He explains the procedures he is going to perform in detail. His staff also has these great qualities. His office is also up to date with all the latest and greatest in dentistry technology, like digital x-​rays and the new Cerec machine which he can use to makes crowns in just 1 day. Thank you Dr Shinto and staff. I can now smile without worrying about how I look.

I found Dr. Shinto’s office through Unilocal (thank you fellow Unilocalers!). I originally tried to make an appointment with Dr. Shinto but his schedule was so booked that I decided to try Dr. Edwards and I am so happy I did. His exam was so thorough, his explanations, very clear and he was so conscientious with everything he was doing. I never felt like he was rushing to try to see another patient. They have all the latest equipment and he was very good at explaining everything he was doing. The cleaning I had done was also very thorough and not rushed like at my previous dentist (one of the reasons why I left). The office was very clean and the office staff seemed to be extremely competent, professional and organized. My husband is now also going to Dr. Edwards and he’s a difficult one to please but he agrees, Dr. Edwards, along with the whole staff, are awesome! So happy that our whole family now has a great dentist.

Dr. Edwards is top notch. Kind, gentle, articulate, thorough, fair in his pricing, highly professional. I’ve seen so many dentists in my life, never found one I really trusted or liked — until now. He really has a high level of knowledge, skill and integrity: this is the dental profession at its best.

Dr. Brian Edwards is so good he makes me excited to go to the dentist. He is so positive and caring that the whole experience has inspired me to really get involved and improve my gum and teeth health. I cannot recommend him enough.

I recommend Dr. Shinto. The dental hygienist does a great job with cleaning my teeth each time that I have gone back. I am currently wearing braces and they are accommodating with cleaning my teeth thoroughly. They are also thorough with their examination. They ask my medical history and even took my blood pressure before looking into my mouth. If there was any work that needed to be done Dr. Shinto and staff explain what type of work are needed to be completed and why. The digital pictures that the staff and the doctor shows are helpful to understand what will be accomplished. The assistant who took my x-​rays was gentle, quick and efficient.
The front office staff are welcoming and friendly. They work with my schedule to get the best time for me to come in at my convenience. They open early in the morning at 7:40 am so that I can get to work on time. :)
Billing people work with my insurances that I acquire through my job. My work changes insurance every so often and some how the billing people are able to get the information they need so that I pay the minimum and my insurance pays most of my visits.
What’s great about Dr. Shinto’s office is that they have friendly reminders a week or two prior to my appointment. Then they have a text reminder a two days prior to my appointment.
I have had the best dental experience in this office for the past 16 years.

I used to hate going to the dentist! I hated the taste of the fluoride, the cleaning, the flossing, the noises, and the x-​rays! If it wasn’t for Dr. Shinto and his team for being so considerate, friendly, and accommodating, I would probably have dentures or Pensatucky-​esque teeth (Orange is the New Black reference) at 23! Not cute!
From the help of him and his team, I now feel so comfortable and look forward to going to the Dentist! It sounds cheesy, but it is true! It also helps that him and his staff laugh at my terrible jokes :)
I remember the last time I went, the office was a bit chilly, but probably because I was wearing a dress… Anyways, the hygienist disappeared and came back with a blanket to cover my legs! So sweet! Shortly thereafter, I fell asleep and woke up with clean teeth!
I’m telling you, this place is great! It is clean, has great amenities, and staff to make you feel comfortable and provide the best dental experience!
So, if you are currently looking for a dentist, I highly suggest you try Dr. Shinto. You won’t regret it!

Another great appointment at Dr. Funatsu’s office. The hygiene by Christina was done very thoroughly and cautiously. I am a bit of a dental coward and I must say this is as good as it gets. Great knowledgeable, professional, atmosphere.

This is the best dental office I’ve ever been to! Dr. Shinto is the most professional and considerate dentist around. The dental assistants are very friendly and patient. The office is clean, has great amentities, and the staff do their best to make you comfortable, which is always a good thing because I’ve always dreaded going to the dentist… Until i found this office. Thank you a Dr. Shinto and all your fantastic staff!

I want to start off by saying that I have never posted a review before but I do read them all the time — for everything: food, mechanic, water parks, theatres… the list goes on. So, I think it’s only fair that I write a review about an experience I feel strongly about. I had read the reviews about Dr. Shinto’s office on Unilocal and although they don’t have a lot of reviews the feedback they received all had 5 stars. And I truly understand why. To begin, I have great dental coverage (PPO with a great $ coverage) and for the most part have good teeth (never had a cavity) but I dread going to the dentist because it was always one giant shake down. After trying out nearly half a dozen dentists (which isn’t easy considering your insurance only covers a set of x-​rays per year), each and every visit with these various dentists I was presented with an inventory of all the dental work that I HAD to get done– making me feel like I had Shrek teeth. From my perspective, I always felt like they were squeezing my insurance for every penny they could get.
With Dr. Paul Shinto and his staff I had the complete opposite experience. From the front support team, x-​ray person, dental hygienist, to Dr. Shinto himself — everyone was very personable, nice but more importantly very, very genuine. It is a reflection of Dr. Shinto’s management style and leadership in selecting a team that will reflect his business approach. Not to mention, he spent a considerable amount of time reviewing my x-​rays, identifying aging teeth concerns, and talking with me. But what I appreciated most was that he used conversational words to help explain a dental process instead of using dental tech talk– it’s the simple difference of communicating with someone vs. being talked to.
I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Shinto and his office to my friends and families. As a frequent Unilocal reviewer, you weed out the good and the bad reviews to give you an overall indication. I think you will find that your experience is like the other reviews you find on Dr. Paul Shinto and his team.

My first appt with Dr. Ichikawa was outstanding. I have never had such a thorough exam from any other dentist (despite many different dental issues). Dr. Ichikawa was upbeat, kind, very knowledgable and gracious. I plan to switch to him as my new dentist and will highly recommend him to my family and friends. In addition, everyone else in the office (Sherrie, Erin, Arnie) were very quick, capable and customer centered. I felt very well take care of. Thanks!

Let me tell you, getting cavities filled is definitely not my favorite thing, in fact my most feared procedure! Had bad experiences with previous dentist hitting nerves! Close to child birth, yes :)
I just had 3 cavities filled last week by Dr. Shinto, going in nervous, they were super accommodating, the hygienist gave me a blanket, Dr. Shinto came in right away. I have never had to wait to be seen or for them to get started… Love that! Anyways not kidding here, I fell asleep!!! Can’t believe it. Took in my ear phones turned on music and was out! Noooo pain what so ever, the next thing I know I was finished!!! Yay! I think he has cured my anxiety about dentists!

I was referred by Dr Charles a periodontist in Pasadena to Dr Shinto. I need to see a regular dentist. I called the office and schedule an appointment. Sherry was the one who help me with my appointment. In addition she was very nice and helpful in explaining the things I need to fill out as a new patient before my appointment. On my appointment day, the front office people were very nice and helpful. And lastly Dr Shinto and both Nurses were so nice during my treatment and consultation. I have so many good compliments for Dr Shinto and his staff. I would highly recommend Dr Shinto to my friends and family :).

This office is the best I’ve ever been to. Very clean, cutting edge technology, and everyone is so nice. Dr. Shinto is the best. Very gentle and soft spoken and always seems to remember what we talked about 6 months ago! I’ve seen all the hygienists and they are all great. From the moment I walk in until the moment I leave I feel welcomed and very well taken care of unlike some of my other doctors’ offices where they barely look up to acknowledge you. They are truly a gem of an office. Thank you Dr. Shinto and staff!

I really should have written this review months ago. so I apologize for the tardiness.
I needed to get a checkup, but I’ve had horrible experiences w/​dentists.(haven’t we all?) so naturally. I was scared and kept putting it off. I turned to fb to ask my friends for referrals but no one seemed to LOVE their dentists, and I just couldn’t be convinced by any of theirs. I then searched on Unilocal,and found Dr. Shinto.
I was shakin’ in my boots, but finally made an appt. Sherry called me back right away to get more info from me and confirm my appt. Felt pretty easy.
The day came when I had to face my fears. I found parking by the Salvation Army, and walked in…
Leslie greeted me. So friendly, she seemed happy to be working there!
x-​rays: quick and painless (I forget her name. but she was super nice)

He gave me a thorough checkup, and informed me about our plan of action. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so relaxed in a dentist chair.nope.never.
I came back for cleanings (they broke it up in 4 quadrants) and all the dental hygienists were sooo incredible nice and paid attention to every detail. Asked me if I was ok, comfortable, told me to let them know if I needed anything, said I should bring in music and headphones if I wanted, etc. My favorite was Racine (sp?).she was über friendly and sweet. Bonus point for giving me a pain-​free lidacaine shot.
The girls at the front desk are also great. they always seem so happy to see their patients. I definitely appreciate that – most people who I encounter behind the counter (ha) are usually pretty unfriendly. so it’s a nice change.
I saw Dr. Shinto twice, and he was great. just as I had hope he would be after the first meeting. I received a ‘thank you’ letter from him – handwritten a few wks after my first visit. Thanking me for trusting him, and for my business. Who does that nowadays? No one. Every visit I’ve had with him has been awesome. he seriously does wonders when he gives you the shot – because I couldn’t feel ANYTHING. Mind you, I have a high pain threshold, but not when it comes to dentists. I was bracing myself for the worst, and next thing I knew… I was numb. I even asked him if he used a needle. O. O
Anyway, I am now a believer, and I enjoy going to the dentist. My next appointment is next year. but I’ve referred some friends over so I’m thinking of stopping by just to say hi. Yep. That’s how much I love everyone at that office!

I have been going to this practice for 25+ years. The difference in care I have received from this dentist compared to other dentists is truly remarkable. They give you a THOROUGH checkup when you first become a patient, and they always do a professional job no matter what the procedure. The staff is very friendly and courteous. It’s shocking how many health professionals have rude and curt people at the front office, but this is never the issue here. My entire family uses this office for all their dental needs. I have recommended their services to others, and have received a personal thank you note from Dr. Shinto for doing so.

I’ve been avoiding the dentist for quite some time, due to previous experiences that left me fearing anyone who had a DDS after their name! However, after reading these reviews, I thought I might as well give this place a go. I was ready to spend the entire morning either in the waiting room or in the chair, counting the hours until the dentist arrived. However, it was nothing at all like I’ve experienced before. The office staff was sincerely friendly, despite my initial rudeness, and Dr. Sakai was extremely comforting — which is pretty amazing, given my extremely low pain and fear threshold!
After completing my paperwork, I was promptly seated and Lourdes, the dental hygienist, quickly went to work. Bonus points for the efficiently getting me in and back to work inside of an hour! And similar to Keith M’s write up, it was a very calming experience. Dr. Sakai seemed sincere with his concern, advisement and care. I’m dishing out even more bonus points to this practice for Dr. Sakai’s follow up message! In this day and age, when do you ever receive such customer service?
I NEVER thought I’d say that I’d be comfortable returning to the Dentist, but if this keeps up, I actually might actually get the regular check ups that you know you should be getting, but make every excuse not to. If you’re a frady-​cat and procrastinator like me, this is the place to go!

This is hands down the best dentist I have ever been to. The staff is warm and personable. The place is state of the art. They were showing me my teeth with a tiny hd camera on a big screen tv. Amazing.
The real reason this was a great experience was Dr. Shinto himself. He took a lot of time to sit with me and talk about my dental history (I’ve had some bad experiences). It was like a calming dental therapy session. About a week after my visit I received a personal letter from Dr. Shinto thanking me for choosing them. This was no generic letter. It was hand written and filled with things we talked about including the fact that I found him on Unilocal.
This really is a five star practice in every way possible.

I’ve been a patient for 10+ years and can tell you that Dr. Shinto and his staff are great. The office side of things is very organized, and the dental care is top-​notch.
Dr. Shinto always explains procedures clearly and lets you know what needs to be done soon and what can wait a bit. A few years ago I had metal braces and Dr. Shinto’s office worked with my ortho to coordinate cleanings – very helpful.
Also, your appointment WILL start on time, so don’t be late!
