Went here on June 15, my birthday, for Teppan. The grill cook was low energy, and didn’t obey my requests of how I would like my steak and shrimp cooked. When I asked repeatedly for my steak cooked med. rare he cooked it well. I asked for my shrimp more cooked and he argued with me saying its well. WORST experience I’ve had at this restaurant and I’ve been a customer for 10 years. The fried rice was made with under cooked brown rice, sesame seeds in it(?) with no vegetables in it, again?. and when we complained they could careless, no discounts no anything. We were all suppose to get Miso soup before our meal, we didn’t get it until after our meal when we asked for it. Even they didn’t offer any recourse. One star is too much for me even. I personally will never go here again. Ruined a great meal and put a bad end to a great birthday.

I took my daughter to Yanagi to celebrate her last day of school. The service was excellent. We were greeted politely upon entering. Our order was taken and we were promptly served. The fish was delicious and ginger fresh. I give the sushi and sushi chef 5 stars but overall I rate this restaurant a 4 out of 5 stars. The ambiance detracts from the overall experience with the radio piping pop music complete with advertisements at a distractingly loud volume. Great sushi though and worth a visit. I’ll be back w the kids but not for a date night. I must add that my daughter, age 16, loved the music and gave Yanagi 5 stars.

Lots of original rolls and rolls that have their own twist. We had the monkey ball to start, the yanagi roll and the perfection roll to finish. Plenty of food, we ended up sharing with the rest of our dinner party. All the soft shell crab was prepared very well. My only complaint is the wait staff wasn’t very attentive for how little people were there. All around good food and was able to accomidate a large group without us calling ahead.

I asked if they could make a chicken teriyaki bowl with out the chicken hence I’m vegetarian and they referred me to a veggie sauté but I wanted veggies and rice. She said she couldn’t make the sauté plus rice so I asked for just steamed rice, she sighed, slammed the menu shut and said okay, in a rude way. Bad service!

We have eaten sushi here many times. There is a language barrier, so explaining food allergies or special requests is hard. Still, we make it work, and rolls are wonderful. Our last trip, reservations for our party of 8 celebrating a birthday, was at the grill table. We were confused about ordering and were told we could not order sushi while sitting at the grill table. Another group across from us was eating sushi at a grill table. All the menu items had some kind of meat. The fried rice came first but had egg and sauces in it. One server explained that I can get tofu fried rice, and that seemed like as good as I was going to get, so I ordered that. It was never prepared. Because my dad made a fuss, they gave me a dish of oily rice with peas and carrots. At least I had something to eat. The grilled foods were all enjoyed by others at the table. We will probably avoid the grill table but be back for sushi rolls.

Food was great but service was lousy. We had six people so the server got an automatic tip so he did not work for it.

My wife and I went here for dinner. We went just for sushi. Service was very fast. We set at the sushi bar. The chef was friendly. The food was very good. We had the 911 and crunchy roll.

Our first visit here was really great, 2nd, not so much :(they have really good lunch specials, however, I got really sick not 30 min after leaving there. My boyfriend and I split the meal and the only thing I had that he didn’t(we got the special– 1 roll and 5 pieces of sashimi) was the shrimp on rice. Once I get sick from a place, I’ll never go back. On to the next sushi place

We had a fun experience for our son’s 21st bday. «You say Sushi, we say BOMB!» Good atmosphere, nice folks and pretty good grub!

Good food but rude service. Everywhere we have been downtown paso has been rude service and we are super friendly as I have been a server. We walked in and were ignored. They sat us by the door I asked to please be moved because I had my child and it was too much to be in the middle with her. The host argued with me and finally sat me at the many other open tables. Then we sat and the servers were unfriendly. They pretty much threw our food down. Didn’t ask us if we needed anything. Didn’t refill our drinks and when we asked for wasabi and ginger for our soy sauce the man rolled his eyes and was put out. I was uncomfortable to ask for anything. Crazy when I’m paying. The staff is put out to help you. Maybe it’s a culture thing? But the lobster roll was good and the garlic edame was delicious. Good food if you don’t mind horrible rude service.

Probably the worst service I’ve ever received at a restaurant. Waitress was rude, and never acknowledged us when we spoke to her. Had to ask for everything from refills to a to go box, and we never saw the waitress after we were served. Way overpriced for the food we received, though the portion were large.

Where to begin. Fresh? Hardly. Quality seafood? Questionable, very. Friendly customer service? 1 out of 5 times. Always double check your bill. More times than one it had added items and one time the table next to us had the exact items on their bill to make make it very suspicious. This place is on my black list solely for the fact that poor quality seafood and/or past the point of questionable freshness is unacceptable to serve to loyal customers.

It’s so ****ing loud in here. Like, ridiculous loud. I feel like I’m at a pop concert. And kaiju forbid it’s someone’s birthday. I must be getting old because all I want is for the darn kids to turn down their crazy music when I eat here. Otherwise, food can be hit-and-miss. I’ve had some excellent sashimi salads. I’ve had some crazy wrong orders. Service is similar. Some really nasty wait staff and some really friendly ones. It’s not consistent enough for me to keep trying. Plus, the music. Seriously.

The food here has really gone downhill. Seems like they’re more worried about getting customers in and out than the quality of their service and food. The food has been tasting progressively more fishy and less fresh. This has always been my favorite sushi place. I’m from Paso Robles and have loved Yanagi since I started eating sushi. I moved to the Bay Area and was so stoked to see that they have a location in Dublin too! It was nice to get a taste of home until the food started lacking in both locations. My family and I went to the paso location about 2 – 3 weeks ago and my husband’s lobster from the teppan table was so bad. He gave me a piece and I took a bite and it was so gross(it’s usually very good). My son asked for a bite so I gave him what my husband gave me and he said it was disgusting too. We had a pretty pricy meal that night and we all left pretty disappointed. The cook did put on a good show though.

Fast take-out, okay food, reasonably priced for area(but not cheap), moderate portions, friendly service. Wouldn’t return but it suited our needs at the time for a quick lunch to go.

Awful. Oysters were not good and didn’t taste fresh. Tried MULTIPLE rolls/sashimi — none were good!!! If you TRULY know good sushi, don’t come here. Wine prices are not listed on the menu — a glass of Pinot Noir was $ 15. Go spend money eating somewhere that’s actually good.

I first went to Yanagi’s for a friend’s birthday a couple years back and I haven’t been able to stay away since! I almost always order something different, but their Katsu Don rice bowl, Teriyaki Dinner Combo, «Red Dragon» and«Perfection» sushi rolls are my favorites. The staff are courteous and don’t hesitate to make sure your visit is a pleasant one.

I have been here now a handful of times and none of the times have I been the one to choose to go here. The food… it’s pretty good. Nothing exceptional, but nothing to complain about either. The service… not always so good. Frazzled wait staff who do not speak very much English taking orders in an unorganized way(resulting in incorrect orders), and meals coming before appetizers. One of the people in our party received their food almost 10 minutes after the first person had been served. Tacky. I would love to get an opportunity to sit at the grill, but it appears one must have a reservation in order to do so.

I feel like i need to update my review because there are 2 parts to this restaurant, the sushi bar(which is reviewed on), and the teppen grill(which this review is about). When we first saw they had a teppen grill, we figured it to be like another major chain teppen grill, but boy were we mistaken. The one gentleman that does the cooking makes it fun for everyone. Each time he has a new group, he does different things to entertain. As you can see by my check ins, we will continue to visit this restaurant over and over again.
