I came to The Heating Oil Lady because I was fed up with Petro and their so-called service contract. At one point, I was paying $ 5000 per year on that contract, and I never once got the boiler serviced. They broke appointments with me three times! T H O L offered the cheapest oil in town, so what the heck, I gave them a shot. Boy, what a difference! Not only do I get pay for my oil at a rate HALF what I was paying Petro, but they are friendly, too. They only take cash or checks and the minimum order is 100 gallons, which sounds inconvenient, but it really helps to keep their costs down and the price low. It has forced me to pay more attention to my heating system and save for the big purchase, but the $ 400 per month heating bill is gone! THOL is a small, but growing family-owned and operated business. Owner, driver, and boiler technician, Nelson Medina is wonderful. They are currently running four or five trucks in the Northern Rhode Island/Southern Massachusetts area. Yesterday, on a cold and snowy Saturday, my furnace stopped working. I tinkered with it, but couldn’t fix it. I called Nelson at noon for help. He returned my call almost immediately. I cautioned him not to come if the roads were bad, but he reassured me I would not go to bed cold. He showed up in his van at 6:00 pm, in the dark, with snow swirling all around. He diagnosed my furnace within two minutes. He didn’t even touch it. Clogged oil filter. I had no idea! He blew out the clogged oil line, replaced the filter using silicon on the seals, added a fuel vacuum gauge, cleaned the burner, replaced and adjusted the fittings, cleaned and adjusted the motor and air intake, and repaired the hot water temperature valve which was leaking. He charged a low flat fee for his services plus $ 100 for parts. Wow! Another boiler guy would have charged me $ 500 for emergency service. The furnace now hums like a top! My rooms are warmer than they’ve been in years. Nelson did more for that furnace in one hour than Petro did in eight years of maintenance contract. In the spring, I will bring him back in to replace some corroded aluminum fittings with brass and copper. Great job, Nelson, and I wish you lots of success.
