El Charro Authentic Mexican Restaurant

Used to live in Pearl up til about 6 years ago, and prior to that had lived in either Pearl or Jackson off and on. Now living in The Woodlands, Texas. Was just talking about chimichangas with a friend and remembered that El Charro had the very best chimichangas I’ve ever eaten. Now, don’t know if they’re still using the same recipe and technique now or not, but when I saw only one review from a lady from Florida who said their food was «blah» I felt I had to respond. At that time, El Charro was one of the best (Tex-)Mexican restaurants I’ve frequented over the years, and a LOT of those years have been spent in Texas. The only Mexican restaurants in The Woodlands (a high-​scale «township» owned by the Hughes Corporation!) are all way over-​priced and usually unimpressive in their product and/​or service. I have to drive up to the next town to find good taquerias. Back to the chimichangas: one thing I liked was that they were made with the fajita meat (I think) — I almost recall the meat was maybe chunkier and softer than fajita, and there also were chunks of onion and peppers and a nice «sauce» in it. Then topped with cheese and a red sauce. As I say, at that time anyway, they were the best I’d found anywhere! One other dish I always loved was their chiles rellenos — made the right way, stuffed with Mexican queso, egg-​battered and perfectly fried. So, just wanted to give a shout-​out to my old favorite Tex-​Mex hangout. Every time I go back to Mississippi that’s the first place I head for to eat out ! Olé’ !
