My companion and I recently had dinner at Signatures at the Humphrey House. It was a dead restaurant night in our area and we went later(around 7:30). We liked the place. The décor is nice without being formal or stuffy. Out of the ten occupied tables, I didn’t see any jeans, sneakers, or slobs. It’s nice without a fine dining sort of pretentiousness. We started out with the short rib tacos(a special appetizer). The bold flavor of the tacos was nose forward. The first bite was an aromatic punch to my olfactory senses. The flavor of the $ 7(for three) appetizer was dimensional. I conceded the third taco to my companion out of courtesy but hoped for demurrer so I could enjoy another. My companion had a pasta dish that she really enjoyed. I was so overwhelmed with my dinner I did not try hers. I chose the slow roasted pork shoulder over the lamb chops. I really enjoyed the pork shoulder. It was moist, flavorful, and well seasoned without losing the flavor of the meat. The dish was highlighted with seasoned roasted apples and a sweet mustard sauce. My pork came with a vegetable medley of the likes and variety of which I have never seen. No sad piped whipped potatoes and two meager baby carrots. The vegetables included broccolini, finger potatoes, carrots, Lima beans, red and white cabbage, and green and yellow squash. Each of the vegetables were cooked perfectly! My co-workers will tell you that I have a discriminating palate. Yet, I concede that this vegetable medley was the best I’ve ever had! Service was on point. Being a Tuesday night and we were apparently the last of the dinner crowd, are server was bright, attentive, and we did not lack for anything. The menu has good variety. There are about 5 different burgers ranging $ 11-$ 14. The entrees ran $ 18-$ 28. So, one might think this should be a 5-star review? Wrong! Now for the areas of improvement. 1) the menu folders are a nice think leather book. Unfortunately, the menu appears to have been copied on a copier with a dirty print head or drum. It cheapened the experience. 2) The wine selection is lacking. They have about 6 whites, 6 reds, and 3 sparkling wines. I can be a bit of a wine snob, but they had nothing in a red that tempted me.(This is why I chose the pork over the lamb.) On the other hand, they give you a generous pour of the wines they do offer. 3) We split a $ 7 slice of lemon cake. There is no representation that it is made on site. However, it tasted like a mass-produced Sysco dessert. The highlight for the dessert was the fresh whipped cream topped with a mint leaf. I could’ve stayed away from the dessert. All in all I will happily go back for a nice dinner out. The Chef clearly knows how to properly prepare everything. The appetizer and meal tasted great and was obviously well made. One might say that the food isn’t cheap, but the portions are large, and one appetizer, a glass of wine, two entrees and a dessert ran $ 60. Particularly in light of the portion size and quality of the meal, I felt satisfied with the value. If you haven’t been here and happen to be near Penfield, you should stop by and try it. But for having a gift card to spend, I might have otherwise passed it by!

Came for dinner on a Friday night. I was meeting DH there right after work. Unfortunately a train was stuck on the tracks in Fairport so I was 15 minutes late for our reservation. They thankfully held our table though. We started with the beef tacos. Pot roast style braised pulled beef. Very tender and flavorful. Only complaint was it came with blue cheese on it. Blue cheese and Mexican flavoring a just don’t go. DH had the special risotto. Basically every random veg(literally –there was like 6 – 8 diff vegs in there) with scallops. Had nice flavor. I had the crab cake and steak combo. Crab cake was excellent. Great aioli with it. The steak was a ‘sirloin tenderloin’. Would have been better if it was a filet. I would have gladly paid the extra few $$. It wasn’t bad by any means, just tougher than I would have liked. They cooked it a perfect medium though. Will definitely come back. Great ambiance, great service. Would love to try their other menu items.

Easily one of my favorite restaurants In ROC. The food here is delicious and the chef is very talented, we keep coming back. We love the calamari, the burgers, and the pasta dishes which are so flavorful. Even the homemade butters are perfect. Highly recommend it for a date night or a casual meal. Very friendly staff too!

Loved the calimari, portion size was a little small for these but it tasted good. The rest of the meal was nice, they give you multiple butters with your bread and the main course had very fall or autumn like flavors. The flavors of my steak and veggies was very different than what I am used to but very good.

This is a great place to go for dinner in Penfield. It’s a little on the fancier side, but the prices are very reasonable and the food is excellent. I ordered the French onion soup and the spring fling burger and it was by far one of the best burgers I’ve had in Rochester. My boyfriend ordered the meatloaf burger and he loved it. We will definitely be coming back here again.

So happy to finally have a chance to try this hidden gem. Had a 6pm Saturday reservation and were seated immediately. I have a feeling it is a good idea to not walk in as soon after all tables were full. There was a decent amount of beer on tap and I liked the red wine selection. Daily specials reflected the season(pork, apples, squash). Bread was very good– soft and warm with house butter and chive cheese. Our party of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the meatloaf(rave review from a meatloaf critic), the braised chicken, and the special pork chop. The vegetables were a refreshing change from normal steamed variety. Will definitely be back to try more menu items!

Without a doubt the best calamari I have ever had and I’ve tried many as a frequent traveler — not oily, great flavor and pairing with a coleslaw type mix and terrific dipping sauce. The seasonal risotto was also very good. Nice ambience and terrific service!

The food is always superb and there is even a couple of entrees for vegans and vegetarians. My only complaint is that it is extremely noisy, so I like to eat at the bar or go on any night except for Friday or Saturday. The service is always good.

Been back twice and it’s been spot on both times. We met a couple of friends for dinner last night. My wife’s scallop risotto was amazing. Great calamari appetizer. I had a pork shoulder special that was great. I ran into an old friend who told me the London Broil is amazing. Whoever’s cooking at this place is very good.

Called for a reservation around 7 pm and friday night, thinking they wouldnt have table for us and they actually made some accommodations for the five of us in the bar. The hostess sat us in the bar at a four top but we were able to squeeze the 5 of us in there. The bar was not too loud, and not too crowded either. For an appetizer, We ordered the Duck wings which came with a honey sriracha sauce; the skin was crispy and they were delicious. We also ordered the tempoura shrimp for an appitizer which came with a mustardy sauce as i remember and served over kelp noodles(SOOGOOD). My only pick about the shrimp is that it was priced at $ 8 and they’re were only two, so we ordered two… For dinner i had the risotto of the day which had a bunch of vegetables in it(cauliflower, squash, asparagus, spinach and the risotto was a creamy lemon wine risotto with four seared scallops on top. My boyfriend had the BBQ salmon, Mom had the flat iron steak, little sister had the pork schnitzel, and my Dad had the Pot Roast. Every dish can with a type of starch and veggie of the day. And it is very easy to get a double serving of veggies instead of a starch for you Paleo eaters out there! Everyone said that their food was great and a just what they expected! Modern comfort food for sure! Food came quickly upon ordering and service was great! Hopefully next time we will plan a little better and eat in the dining room.

Refreshing, modest and genuine are the words that come to mind when I think of Signatures at The Humphrey House. Always fresh ingredients and everything is prepared with unpretentious excellence around the clock. I’ve been here at all times of the day and different days of the week. The chef obviously loves what he does because you can see and taste the result. The staff carries the same weight as they are down-to-earth people who are the farthest from uptight, they create a wonderful sense of comfort and ease. The burgers are the best I’ve had anywhere hands down beating out The Dutch in NYC. The meat isn’t hard packed and never over cooked. The toppings are very creative with the smoked burger being my favorite second to the egg burger. This means the menu is rotated on occasion, which always yields something new to try that has yet to disappoint. If you were one of the lucky ones, you had the beef meets pork burger which is null and void from the law of diminishing returns. My wife and I have pretty much had every plate on the menu, and nothing has ever disappointed us. Some of our favorites are the Scallop Salad, Grilled Chicken Cobb Salad, Pork Schnitzel, Turkey Caprese Panini, *Humphrey House Salad, Crispy Duck Wings, Seasonal Risotto, and the always excellent *Short Rib Pot Roast. The bar is well stocked and small, and always as a solid selection of drafts. The bar \ is our favorite place to eat lunch or a quick dinner in the winter. A fantastic atmosphere and great daylight coming in from the windows for lunch. Things get a bit loud around dinner time, but that’s because the place is packed with people enjoying themselves and I lose myself in the great food anyway. We love it when a restaurant is filled with people who love and care about their craft. Everybody wins.

Nice casual bar with happy hour; good draft selections Dining featured a warm Brussels sprout salad with chorizo, soup of the day(broccoli cheese) with scallop risotto(kale, butternut squash, mushrooms) and London broil with mashed potatoes, red cabbage medley, and topped with 4 perfect asparagus spears. Desert for two was a chocolate mouse medley(white and dark) with truffles and cookies. Dinner rolls were warm with a honey butter or garlic cheese spread. Terrific value, warm setting, good service. Certainly one of the best dinners we’ve had in Penfield.

We had been meaning to try Signatures — we don’t live too far from here and had heard good things about it. We stopped in for an early dinner since we were in the neighborhood. Despite not having a reservation on a Friday we were able to get a nice four-top next to the fireplace. The dining room had a clean black and white look — more stylish than expected. Since it was early the waitress informed us it was still happy hour and that the prices were good in the dining room which is fairly unusual. What a great deal: $ 2 well drinks, $ 3 house wine, and $ 2 beers. The menu had some good choices. We opted for the Caesar salad which was just ok. The entrees were more successful: the smoke burger with smoked bacon and smoked blue cheese was very good and done perfectly medium-rare. The bonus was the unusual sweet potato tator-tots side dish which was much better than most sweet potato fries I’ve had. The beef bourguignon was good — perfect for a cold evening. Our server and the back servers did a nice job and were very friendly and welcoming. Our experience was in line with what we had heard but we we’re still pleasantly surprised.

This is the restaraunt my mom and I always go to when its the two of us. The food here reminds you of homemade cooking but is delicious. The atmosphere gives you that comfortable home vibe. The last few times I’ve been here I always split the crab cakes and veal meatloaf with my mom and its sinful. Thus saying that the portion sizes are huge. The service is usually good sometimes here and there it won’t be. That happens only once in a while which is understandable. Overall a great restaraunt with good homemade like meals

Pleasantly surprised. Upon walking in, the atmosphere felt a bit stuffy, patrons sitting bolt upright in their chairs, speaking quietly to one another, spooning their soup«away» from themselves to be proper. We walk in, and though I am confident that my two children(8 and 10) will hold their own in this nicest of Roc’s eateries, I do admit that I was concerned that we forgot to have the«remember how to behave in a nice restaurant or else» talk before entering. We were immediately put at ease by the staff, especially our server. Pace was a little slow but it allowed us to relax into our evening and really enjoy the experience. Everything that came out of the kitchen was exceptional. Descriptions were accurate, ingredients were fresh, compilations were unique. My meal was not prepared correctly, and when brought to our server’s attention, it was immediately dealt with, no questions asked, genuine apologies made and professionally responded to. Overall a super experience, we will absolutely make this an annual stop for us. Finally, exceptional dining in Roc!!!

Quite nice restaurant. Made a first visit. Rode by a thousand times and never saw it. Surprisingly pleasant. Nice ambiance and openness. Courteous staff and awesome bread and honey butter! Entrees were good. It gets pretty crowded with after 6:30 or so. Go early or late. I’ll be back.

Forget the past, they’ve moved so far past what the Humphrey House was. Signatures offers a great lunch and dinner selection with quality ingredients and flair. Even a side a simple as tater tots are kicked up, made from sweet potatoes and great dipped in one of their homemade sauces, dressings, or even just in ketchup. If you’re unsure, stop in for lunch and try the Gruyère melt; or for dinner and try a seasonal risotto. Thank you for taking this Penfield landmark and putting out back on the culinary map.

What a wonderful meal! Traveling in Rochester for work so I opened up my trusty Unilocal for some advice. This restaurant was well-reviewed and the menu looked fabulous. We could not have been happier with our choice. The photos just don’t do the food justice. Wonderful from start to finish.

Impressive! I’ve eaten here twice now and the food and service has been very impressive both times. Located in Penfield this cozy restaurant has ample parking in the back. It has two entrances. One in the back which takes you to the dining room and one in the front which lands you at the bar. It is usually packed on the weekends and reservations are recommended. The crowd seems to be mostly regulars. There is a small bar at the front which seems decent. My experience is with the restaurant only. The place is well decorated with nicely laid out tables and nice looking furniture. The restaurant is not too big and the seating capacity is reasonable. The dining room is cozy and gives you the feeling of having dinner in your private dining room instead of a restaurant. I had the same waitress twice that I have been here and she was wonderful with prompt service, a smile on her face and very helpful with recommendations. One thing that is great about this place is their good sized specials menu which changes on a day to day and seasonal basis. And most of them sound amazing and taste amazing. Every time you go you have something new, fresh and seasonal to try. Now for the food. Complimentary bread. Served with sweet butter and garlic butter. Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. Nice and warm and tastes amazing with the butter. Specially the garlic one. Calamari. Amazing. One of the best most flavorful calamari I have ever had. Served with a ranchy dip. Baked Feta with Olives. Special appetizer for the day. As good as feta gets. Served with warm pita bread. Highly recommended. Duck Salad. Special appetizer for the day. The duck was very flavorful and the ingredients went together very well. The calamari took the appetizer king award though. Roasted Red Pepper Soup. Good soup but I have had better. The french onion my friend ordered looked amazing and he loved it. Bucatini Pasta. I am usually not a big fan of pasta when eating out but gave this one a try and was not disappointed. The blend of chicken, squash and chopped almonds along with other ingredients was done very very well. Fish and Chips. Served with coleslaw and tartar sauce. Huge serving size. Decent but not the best. There are very few places in the US that can do fish and chips well. This was a decent attempt but the fish didn’t really meet the high expectations I’ve developed after eating fish and chips in the United Kingdom. Crème Brulee. Had the cinnamon brown sugar one. They change it often with different flavors of Crème Brulee available. It was very good and I finished every last morsel of it. Plenty of other dessert options were available including cheesecake, chocolate mousse and Italian lemon cake. My friends tried the seared shrimp salad, london broil(huge steak), short rib pot roast and the ahi tuna and everyone loved what they ordered and finished it all. Serving sizes are on the large side for most of the Entrees. The prices are what you’d expect from a place serving good quality food in a good atmosphere. Not overly expensive in my opinion. I’ve heard that this place used to be a pharmacy in the past and/or a doctor lived here(two versions) and you can see a display of old pharmaceuticals utilizing animals and plants at the restaurant entrance which is really fascinating. A great dining experience over all which should not be missed. Will definitely return.
