The quintessential southern experience. Booze, music, and some of the best people watching around(I am a Yankee after all). I ordered a bushwhacker and had about 3 sips of it before I gave up. Seriously strong stuff.

Marjan, Heather, and Becky got me through line, took my cover, and made it so smooth especially for a Tuesday night at 11:40. If they’re working the door I’ll definitely be back.

Erika was outstanding, personable, knowledgeable and great to meet. We were lucky to have her as our waitress.. The food is delicious, the view is great. A delightful night eating under the stars. What a fantastic evening. ERIKA, LIVELIFETOTHEFULLEST. You are amazing! Thank you for making our night!

The bushwhacker was ok, very strong but if you stirred and drank it was better. The food was good, we got the oyster sampler, fried shrimp basket, chicken sandwich and chicken wrap, fried pickles. The oysters were good, the Cajun oysters were the best and the loaded oysters tasted like a loaded baked potato. The fried shrimp was good and flavorful. I was told the chicken sandwich was the best sandwich she’s ever had. The fried pickles were ok but wouldn’t get again. The chicken wrap was good as well, like the sandwich but in a wrap. The establishment was divey and hard to walk on with jagged boards. If you’re in the area a good place for lunch.

This is a long story… Brace yourself. I prefer to give this establishment zero stars because this situation was handled very poorly. My husband and usually have a great time at flora bama, did not doubt this Memorial Day weekend would be any different. Started at the riverside bar across the street and bartender was friendly and service was quick. Later that night we ventured over the the main bar. Our group of friends were having a great time meeting new people when a girl we met looked at me and said, «I don’t know who that guy is that keeps following me.» From her demeanor I believed she was scared. I was with four other men that was trying to talk to the guy. My husband went to a bartender and asked for help when she made a rude comment to him such as «I’m busy pouring drinks». My husband was persistent on getting her help but it is so loud in there she probably believed he was shouting at her. She then called security to escort him outside. Three security people came over and the black female security asked if this was my husband. I stated yes he is and asked what the issues was. She replied that he was rude to the bartender and he had to leave. I walked out with them trying to explain that a girl is being sexually harassed and we were trying to help. There must have been a miscommunication. They completely ignored us. As a registered nurse I’ve seen first hand how the date rape drug can cause physical violence, emotional scars and women may not feel safe for a long time. This girl could have easily been sexually assaulted. It blows my mind to see they take sexual harassment so lightly.

Flora-Bama, «THEBAMA,» I suppose is kind of a big deal. I admit I hadn’t heard of until I learned of it by word-of-mouth from locals. I apparently live under a rock and this bar has its own Kenny Chesney song and is mentioned a few times in lyrics to Jimmy Buffet songs. This bar is located right on the state line and is half in Florida and half in Alabama(it’s not just a catchy name!) It is also right on the beach and there are many outdoor bars to be served at. Inside there is usually more than one live band playing in the many rooms of the multi-story watering hole. The wooden structure doesn’t look like much from the street, but inside the place is huge and has that feeling of the ultimate beachy/spring break/party location. They even have 2 additional buildings across the street as if they needed more room. During spring break or Mullet Toss(yes, it’s a thing) traffic backs up around the bar in both directions since there is only one road to get you in and out of there. I wasn’t able to stay long when I went but make sure you try a Bushwacker and add your name to the wooden walls of the place which have gathered quite a few over the years. I can see why people keep coming back!

This is a strangely amazing place. As someone who went to college in Boston — I missed the whole bikini-clad, flip-flop, beer Spring Break experience. I turned out okay though. This place feels like a museum dedicated to bad decisions, good music and a lot of wild memories. My group stopped by around 5 on a weekend in March and though it was pretty empty at the time, there were two bands playing on different stages. People trickled in(bachelorette parties, spring breakers, your mom) and all of a sudden the place was packed by 6:30 p.m. This venue has beach access, multiple bars, bras hanging from a clothes line, good oysters and an awesome gift shop. There’s no place like Flora-Bama. Will I be back? Probably not. Did I have fun? Oh yeah!

Growing up in the south and Florida in particles I have a southern bucket list that for the past few years I have been checking stuff off of, two weeks ago I made another check mark, the world famous Flora-Bama bar! We went down to Gulf Shores for the famous annual Interstate Mullet Toss, which as one would guess is headquartered at the Flora-Bama! I must admit I didn’t think much of the place when we first arrived, it looks like a shack, but boy I was wrong! As the name would suggest it «straddles» the Florida Alabama state line, and is known the beach going bar world over as a must see. It doesn’t disappoint. Five dollar cover most days except for special events when it’s ten dollars; or for forty dollars you can buy a membership good all year long. «License plates from every state, nailed up to the wall», the place is massive I think I counted 10 bars, one complete with three clotheslines of bras the patrons had donated to the décor. Two stages one inside and one on the outside deck, bathrooms abound. It’s like an amusement park for adults, and oh lord the people watching. The place has a private beach access and an extremely limited dress code, meaning shoes and shirts/cover ups required. We discovered however the shirt part may have been a very loose definition of the term. For Mullet Toss, which is exactly what it sounds like, throw a mullet(the fish) as far as you can in an attempt to win a gift card, the crowds get huge. Friday night they had 30,000 people pay to get into the Flora-Bama. The beer prices are actually really good, 3 bucks for domestic bottles, 6 bucks a mixed drink, and the world famous Bushwacker which tastes like and alcohol infused milkshake! There were definitely lines at the bars but for a normal day I bet you wouldn’t have to wait long, we didn’t wait more than 5 minutes for a drink all day long. The staff is kind and attentive but has no patience for excessively drunk ignorance. They serve food but we didn’t partake although it seemed reasonably priced and looked pretty darn tasty, esp the crawfish! The had bands playing all day long, feature most genres of music. Honestly no one I could name or remember but we were definitely entertained. Some of the other big events through the year include Talladega on the big screen, college football watch parties, headliner country music, and even a Memorial Day bikini contest. As I said the people watching was absolutely extraordinary. All in all, if you find yourself in Gulf Shores and love the feel of a beach bar, this is the beach bar in Gulf Shores! Have fun and enjoy; the only reason for the four stars was that for the special events it’s cash only, the atm doesn’t gouge you but the cash lines do get long and tedious and some ATMs ran out of money!

What can you say that hasn’t already been said about the Bama? Bushwackers. Beer. Delicious oysters(believe it or not). Fine mix of trashy and classy people in leisurewear and bathing suits. Bars everywhere — inside, outside, behind other bars. It’s the bar for people that love bars and can appreciate a good dive without considerable judgment. Don’t waste your time at any other bar while in OBA, this is the ONLY place to be. Unless you go to the Yacht Club next door… because that’s pretty awesome too.

Huge place with a lot of bars. It was pretty empty, which might be why it wasn’t that great when I went, but when it get’s going I’m sure in some ways it’s better and other ways worse. Better in that it might be more fun with more people, worse in that the bars could hardly keep up with orders with the minimal number of people there and I can’t imagine how slow they must be when there are more people there. I have to say the original bar is cool, but old school. There’s a rock stage, country stage, outdoor stuff, beach access, etc. So there’s plenty to do and see and something for everyone. I don’t know if I’d go back, as it’s really more of a younger crowd than I’m into these days, but under the right circumstances it’s probably just what a lot of people are looking for.

This sprawling iconic lounge/bar/concert venue is a must do when you’re on the Gulf Coast. It’s not much to look at but it’s achieved legendary status. We decided it would be a great place to watch the national championship football game. There was a decent crowd in the main bar, but it wasn’t as slammed or rowdy as we thought it would be. There was a beer special plus an all you can eat wings special for $ 10, which we took advantage of. The wings were just okay, a little too dry and in need of some sauce. But you don’t go to Flora-Bama for fine dining! Channel your inner redneck and visit, even if it’s just for bragging rights to say you’ve been there.

It is what it is and everyone needs to come here once if you’re in the area. I mean, it’s called Flora-Bama and it seems like anything goes and anyone comes. You’ll probably have a good time because there are lots of cheap drinks and great music. There are a bunch of music stages and room to just chill out. I tried a Bama-Burger with sweet potato fries which was a good meal and also got the infamous Bushwhacker(a highly recommended alcoholic chocolate milkshake). Since I live in downtown, this place is pretty far and I’d probably only come out if friends really advocated for it. Maybe one day I’ll come to the mullet toss. I had to buy a Flora-Bama T-shirt(a pricey $ 25 after tax).

When I told some friends I was headed down to Gulf Shores for a family vacation multiple people mentioned that I had to stop by Flora-Bamas. It was not a horrible drive at all from Gulf Shores and my original reaction was how large the place is. If you are not familiar with the location you might get confused on if you should go into the lounge & package store or across the street to the restaurant. We followed the signs to the main bar. It was fairly dark on the stage side of the bar with a man playing acoustic and several listeners cheering him on. The bartenders were very friendly and after several recommendations for a Bushwhacker I decided to try one — delicious. We went over to the other side of the main bar and played some Big Buck Hunter and I was surprised at how many children were running around playing foosball, golden tee, etc. This place seems to have something for everyone of all ages. I can see how I would enjoy this more if I was back in college(and maybe in a frat) but I still greatly enjoyed my visit!

LOVEFLORABAMA!!! One of our favorite places in this part of the U.S. Great live music playing in 3 different venues at once — walk around, pick your favorite, and just sit down. This isn’t an easy gig for musicians to get, so there’re all darn good. Great wings. Good food. Honest drinks. Where else can you toss a mullet, write on the wall with a Sharpe, eat some killer wings, staple a bra to the ceiling, and listen to some great live music?!? Now mind you, the whole place is built with plywood. This ain’t no fancy shmancy country club. But Florabama is the real deal… definitely.

I give this place 2 stars because the Oysters were ok and Flora-Bama really is kind of an institution that everyone should see. I came for lunch on a Thursday, but I’m sure the evening time is a lot of fun. They even do $ 1 off on beers at lunch time, so I was able to get a beer for $ 2.50. My beef with this place was the overall customer service and disorganization. After waiting in line at the OYSTERBAR for 20 minutes, I get up to the counter to hear that they are out of Oysters! WTF! As I mentioned to the ditzy young girl, she should probably let a long line of customers know that they are out of Oysters before making us wait. She then told us to go to the river bar, also owned by Flora-Bama and it is right across the street. She said they would have Oysters, so I don’t know why they couldn’t just bring bags of Oysters from one establishment across the street to the main bar where There were 10 annoyed customers wanting oysters that had been waiting in the long line, uninformed that they were out. So I walked across the street and while the half dozen oysters were priced the same as the main bar, the dozen were $ 2 more. I informed the bartender and he just shrugged. I get a half dozen and they were just fine. But the topper was when I went back to the gift shop where I had just purchased 2 postcards 40 minutes earlier. 2 women working both ignored me for a couple minutes, one of them just folding tshirt a and the other taking phone calls rather than asking if I needed help… I was just trying to find out if they sold stamps. This is a fun stop with decent food deals, but definitely one of those places where they are popular enough that they can get away with a low quality of customer service.
