4 stars for a divey BBQ joint ambience, and 3 stars for the food. I was in town for a couple days, and some locals brought me here for lunch. The atmosphere was perfect; a non-descript, small run down exterior, and a minimal interior that looks like it hasn’t had an update in 20+ years. Plastic chairs, a handful of tables, and big grill/smoker behind the counter. I followed the lead of my local colleagues and went with a ’10 oz Plate’ of smoked, chopped pork, and a side of the Baked Beans. While their BBQ sauce doesn’t ‘look’ that appetizing with its greenish color, it is tasty. Definitely a southern, vinegar based sauce, and their ‘spicy’ sauce had just the right amount of heat. Overall the pork was moist and the sauce enhanced the flavor. Not quite as tender as some other BBQ places I have been to, and I would have liked to have a little more smoke flavor, but overall pretty good. The beans were decent as well. Not my favorite BBQ I have ever had, but I would stop back in if I was back in the area.

Went there yesterday, 6÷27÷2015. Cold, dry, hard as a rock BBQ. Worst I’ve had. Baked beans were pork n beans straight out of a can! Brunswick Stew was great, however.

I grew up in Hawaii but my grandparents lived in Columbus and Phenix City and every time we came to visit from toddler to teen one of the first stops was Smokey Pig BBQ. My dad loved this place and for many of the visits through the years there was always a lady with a beehive hairdo serving behind the counter. I recently moved here to help my grandma and I stopped in for what my family considers the best BBQ in town and didn’t see the beehive lady, but the food is just as I remembered. The first bite brought back a rush of good memories and was delicious as always. Now that I am living here, I have introduced my Hawaiian wife to the joint and we eat here everytime we want some BBQ. I love the sauce, love the chipped Old Timers plate and the chipped sandwiches with slaw and pickles. The sweet tea is always perfect. My wife prefers the bite sized Old Timers plate. I am so glad this place is still around and I hope they stay in business forever. Thank you for the great food, friendly customer service and the memories.

I was raised on their brunswick stew and barbeque sandwich(I always get it chipped). As I grew older I graduated to the Old Timer Plate with BBQ slaw, brunswick stew, and 8oz of good old smoked pork. I would recommend this place to anyone, but is it the best barbeque restaurant in the area?!? No, that would have to be the BBQ House in Seale, AL. Still love me some Smokey Pig!!!
