Man I wish I could remember the drink I got… ugggh. What I do remember is that I ordered 2 drinks and their grilled cheese sandwich. The first drink tasted too strong so I asked them to make the second drink sweeter. I had a great time laughing it up with the crew I was with during happy hour and felt absolutely fine… until I stood up and then proceeded to get on the wrong bus home… the problem with this is that I’m a Philly Native and I’ve been catching Septa for yeeears so how that«ish» happened I have no clue… blame it on the alcohol. So the moral of the story is, if you want a tasty strong drink(that sneaks up on you)…this is your place! I really liked the setup/décor and the service was very good.

This is a neighborhood gem! Comfy speak easy feel. Expert mixologists that shake the h*ll out of their drinks. Our guy Chris was really knowledgeable and made some fantastic drinks. Fun«bites» menu with grilled cheese and bacon wrapped figs to name a few. Will definitely go back!

Had high expectations but they were shattered after waiting 10 minutes at the door for a seat and only to be told it would take 20 minutes for our drinks to be served. On a Tuesday night. Save your time. I have it 2 stars because they did have a good review on Philly mag.

Big fan of 1 Tippling Place! I’m a fancy cocktail guy. There are a plenty of options in the city if you know where to look. They all have some attributes in common: drinks are $ 10-$ 15 each, heavy on the liquor, high on the flavor. The atmosphere also has standards, for example no standing and the requirement that you dress like you belong. Therefore, it should be no surprise that Tipping Place has all of these. So what exactly has me giving Tippling a «Woohoo! As good as it gets!» rating? Unlike some of the other cocktail bars in the city, you can actually come in and look around instead of waiting in line outside. May not seem like much, but it is nice in the winter and means you can be late to meeting up with friends without feeling like you’re holding them back from grabbing a drink. Another little thing, I like their seats. Yes, some of the old timy furniture could use an update, but they are damn comfortable. The drinks are fancy and I like them regardless of how they make me look(with the occasional ‘girly’ glass in front of me). I like how Tippling has a regular menu along with Special/Seasonal drinks. It is nice to find your old favorite once in a while. Beyond that, service is reasonable and location is convenient. Check them out!

Hung out here last night with friends. Very cozy and the drinks were strong and delicious”! The setup is like you’re in your living room hanging with friends. They have finger food only. The artichoke dip was delightful. Gratuity on 5 or more people is 20%. Enjoy

Nice atmosphere, and cool lounge area. Happy hour specials are still pretty pricey and limited to drinks only. Appetizers are tasty.

Went here on a Friday with a couple friends. While the place is cool and the drinks are delicious, I only gave this place three stars because of the food. If you are going to serve food the you should pretend to care about it. The food menu had three items crossed out with pen which was weird enough. We ordered the cheese plate and the charcuterie plate. When they arrived the waitress looked befuddled by my request for napkins and the only brought cocktail napkins. Do they not have dinner napkins? Both plates had the same ritz style crackers that you would buy in a grocery store. The crackers are so sweet they ruined any cheese or meat flavor. The meat platter had pepperoni and salami in piles and then two measly pieces of prosciutto. The cheese platter had barely 2 ounces of cheese. While the staff and drinks were great don’t go to this place hungry. You will be sorely disappointed.

I really liked this place! After searching happy hour specials in my area, a friend and I decided to check this place out and we are both glad that we did! The inside is speakeasy-esque, with an old-fashioned feel to it. Seating in armchairs around tables in the front of the bar and ample bar seating and hi-top tables in the back. The bartenders were in suspenders and vests and we felt their mustaches fit the theme perfectly! I like that this place isn’t a serious speakeasy though! The windows in the front of the restaurant open up entirely to let great light and fresh air in. So while the lighting may be dim, you don’t feel like you’re cooped up in a basement somewhere. The drinks here are great — my friend order two different whiskey drinks, while I stuck with Moscow Mules(definitely the opposite of a whiskey fan). The drinks were strong and a great price for happy hour(~$ 9 and under). We didn’t order any food, but everything that we saw come out of the kitchen looked and smelled phenomenal! We sat at the bar and while the chairs felt like they were on top of each other(place was pretty packed for Friday HH), it wasn’t crazy loud in the place so we could have a great conversation without screaming at each other. The staff was funny and engaging and we had an overall good time here! I would recommend this to anyone and would enjoy coming here again myself!

Found this quaint yet upscale cocktail lounge when I was looking for an after dinner drinks stop after my birthday dinner with the bf. The place itself is pretty small, probably enough room for 50 people and they do not allow it to get crowded(major pro). We arrived around 10 on a Saturday night, there was a group of 6 in front of us who were turned away because there was no open table to accommodate them. Being a party of 2 we were promptly seated. The décor is a little odd but fitting for a prohibition era type establishment and the mood was very chill. The drink menu is heavy with clever cocktail combinations, which is obviously the specialty here. The bartenders seemed hard at work shaking and stirring their concoctions and the servers were friendly and knowledgeable. Our drinks came out in smaller than expected glasses and were well mixed. We each sampled 2 of the specialty cocktails and were impressed with all of the drinks we had– they were quite strong yet still tasty, just underrwhelmed by how small for a 12 – 15 $ drink. Would recommend for a fancier before or after dinner drink stop but be prepared to shell out over $ 50 for a few drinks.

Tippling is turning out to be one of my favorite places to grab a cocktail. Now let me first say that these cocktails are not cheap. This is not a go grab a beer kind of place. If you want a well crafted, thought out drink that someone clearly put some love into than this should be your spot. Service can get a little slow but lets contribute that to all the hard work these bartenders are doing. Everyone is very friendly and knowledgable that works here as well

Not bad… This is a cute bar with a mildly fancy vibe(hello leather furniture). The drinks are yummy, albeit slightly pretentious(uh, the Hemmingway — yes, it was misspelled like that; I don’t know if the misspelling was on purpose or not, either way, it’s stupid). The service is slow, and that’s the reason I took away a bunch of stars, but if you’re in the mood for some yummy pretentiousness, then head on over.

This place is in plain sight but seriously hidden — I live right down the street and didn’t notice it until I went looking for it! Of all the speakeasies I’ve been to in Philly, 1 Tippling is my least favorite. It seems a little frumpy in my opinion, but that may be because I’ve only ever sat by the window and haven’t ventured much further. The service is always great, but it’s always really empty and none of the furniture matches. I guess it has a charm, but I’ll probably stick to the bars further downtown. The drinks are good though — I don’t remember the names but the cucumber and lavender ones in particular are very tasty!

My first speakeasy in Philadelphia(and ever!) I loved the décor; the couches were extremely comfortable, although there doesn’t seem to be that many places to sit. I did however have a lovely time with my «date», as we sat in one of the intimate loveseats and watched others around us catch up with friends or awkwardly fumble through first dates. I ordered the Hemingway Daquiri, which was small and not the best drink I’ve had, while my boyfriend’s drink was rum-based(I forget which) but very strong. A lovely place to pop in for chilling out and drinks, if bars are not your scene.

I was in the area with a friend and, like any seasoned Unilocaler, I looked at my bookmarked places and chose 1 Tippling Place as my destination. If I were to walk down Chestnut I do not think I would have even noticed this place. It’s very nondescript from the outside but please, go inside! Once I entered I felt like I was in someone’s home. The décor is very eclectic. There are mismatched chairs, sofas, loveseats and coffee tables. There are also paintings and artwork hanging all over the walls. Honestly, I felt like I was at grandmom’s house. The cocktail list is pretty extensive. There are many specialty cocktails to choose from ranging in tastes and prices. My friend and I decided to order the Dragon’s Tear(vodka, lemon, honey & strawberry) and Mexican Strawberry(tequila, lime, cucumber, mint & strawberry). Both drinks were really delicious and not too sweet. This was my first time here, but definitely not my last.

Drinks are really good but the main problem with the place being half full on a Friday night is that service is terrible. Try any drink and you will love it. Keep low expectations from the service though. We ordered 3 drinks and at least 2 of them were not filled up plus they were literally just set down in front of us without a single courteous word. Terribly disappointed. We used to come here all the time when this was new but the service standards are terrible now and need to be reevaluated.

1 Tippling is a fine place for a few fancy cocktails — fun, old-timey décor and friendly staff with an impressive bar and interesting drink list. The hostess was friendly and quick to seat us — as a note, you cannot just walk in and take a seat; the hostess strategically seats groups with space between, which is great. We stopped in while we waited for a party to end at the nearby Ranstead Room and found that 1TP is very similar. Drinks and slightly pricey, but are complex and interesting. I could have handled slightly dimmer lighting — it was a little bright, and I expect that dimmer lighting would make it seem more intimate and quieter. Just my two cents.

Update time and another star added. Was here this past weekend and had such a wonderful night. Got a table for two at a high-top near the bar and the service was outstanding. We were constantly being checked on and servers were happy to re-deliver a menu when I wanted to change up what I was drinking. Hung out here for several hours and I only ordered one drink I didn’t care for(my bad, I was trying to be adventurous). Other than that– each drink was flawless and we were both impressed. Stiff bill at the end though– should probably not hang out here for 4.5 hours if you want to be frugal. 4 stars for 1 Tippling.

Look, there’s no standing here, OK? You sit like civilized folk. Sometimes I like to stand! This isn’t the place to bring a huge or rowdy group, they will kick you out. My group learned that the hard way not long after I left. I met up with some coworkers here on a Saturday night, and at 7pm there were only a handful of other patrons. I had a show at the Kimmel Center to go to at 8pm so I only had time for one drink. This was a going-away celebration for one of our colleagues, and over the course of the night quite a few people showed up. Too many people. I am told they were asked to leave at some point. This definitely isn’t a rowdy crowd, so I’m guessing it was just too many people for the space and their«ambience». However, I did like the place, thought it was cute and the bartenders with suspenders and bow ties were adorable. It’s a great place for a pre-dinner drink or a first date — quiet, great bartenders, delicious drinks, and plenty of other things to do nearby. I got a gin drink with ginger called the Gershwin at the server’s suggestion and it was awesome. He said they use fresh ginger in their drinks and the flavour really came through. I loved it, and the prices weren’t bad at all. None of the cocktails were $ 15 and there were plenty that were $ 10 and under, which is a bargain for great craft cocktails.

1 Tippling Place is a friendly space. Since it’s a speakeasy, it’s a bit hidden along Chestnut Street. I had no trouble finding it for my initial visit, but walked right on by the second time. Once you walk in, there’s a splattering of couches and seats for groups, high tops(good for smaller groups) and the bar itself. The wall art is nothing if not eclectic and is accentuated by the signature zebra-head. It’s a pretty great place — by far, the most welcoming of all the speakeasy establishments I’ve visited in Philly. For drinks, I can only speak to the quality of the gin section, as that’s my liquor of choice for cocktails when I’m out. I had the Lavender 75 and the Eastside and both were great. I would order either of them again in the future.
