Only four reviews, two recent, for this bar, which has been on Baltimore Ave since forever. I’ve passed by it on my way to other places on Baltimore and never ventured in. I can see why this is would not be a Unilocaler’s hangout. It’s basically a very very small bar with only maybe five beer brands(at most) and almost no room other than at the bar itself. Very loud inside, between the people yelling at each other, and the blaring music. Acoustics are bad. The lighting is horrible — it looks dark & creepy inside. The bathroom — eek! So, I don’t think I’ll be back; there’s too many other, better places within a stones throw from here.

To hell with anyone calling this a «dive» bar. Abby’s is just a bar, period. Had strong drinks and got to hear two women in their 60s absolutely kill it during a live, impromptu set… while eating free – and great-tasting – food served during a brunch Sunday. Not for everyone. That’s it.

I think only Mike and I go here, and the friends that we can convince to come out and meet us. That’s fine by me. Sometimes I just want to hang out, have a lager, and listen to the bartender sing along to Rihanna’s «Take a Bow» while all the neighborhood ladies chime in. The first time I came in, running from the rain and finding Dhalak closed, Abby bought me a beer, and later, showed my her awesome little dog. It’s a real neighborhood joint, and I’ll keep stopping by.

Abby’s is, by and large, just a neighborhood bar populated by neighborhood folks. Lager’s are fairly cheap. Most of the people are friendly. The music is mostly modern R&B but that’s part of the flavor of the place. On the exceptional side, there is live Jazz/R&B/Soul every Tuesday and the crowd is almost always having it. On the not so exceptional side, the bathrooms are small and nasty, and if you’re a woman on a Tuesday night, you have to walk through a live band to get to yours.
