Anthony’s Barber Shop

Anthony is my barber for years! He manages all my different hair styles and we have become good friends. Believe me, he’s an excellent barber. I’m a difficult customer to please and I went to a bunch of different barbers in Philly. The vast majority were overpriced with no exceptional skill. Its never made any sense to me. Anthony on the other hand, deserves the excellent reputation that he’s built in Philadelphia.

Anthony is great at what he does! He is an extremely skilled barber, and extremely fast. Once you «level» with him, he knows exactly what to do and performs fantastically.
Of note, he does have a dog hanging out around the shop.

Great old school cut, quick quality work and very accepting of walk-​ins, which is a rarity.

Found my new center city barber. Very skilled, experienced and personable. Included a straight edge shave at the end. He’s the only barber I’ve been to that could properly handle my hair type. Salon quality in a barbershop atmosphere.

Best barber in Philly that i’ve been to. Super comfortable place where you feel right at home from your first visit. Been coming here for the past year since moving into the neighborhood and always get a great cut without a huge dent to the wallet.

This was an unpleasant experience to say the least. Lured in by several positive internet reviews, I had modest expectations of being treated respectfully and gaining the full attention of Anthony. Instead, he chopped my hair as if wielding a weed wacker, chatted on the cell phone to a woman while shaving the back of my neck with a straight razor, proposed a cigarette break before sitting me down, spoke loudly to his plumber (who was working on a new sink the whole time I was seated there) and didn’t have the right change when it came time to pay. I didn’t even know if the place was open at first because a bag of trash lay on the front step. This should have been a sign that entry was perilous; but heedless of the bad omen I decided take my chances.
I have no doubt that Anthony means well, but a little more professional attitude would go a long way. Perhaps he is on his game more some days than others. I won’t be going back.

Dude is awesome. fast. and does good work. a consummate professional. plus dogs and netflix at the shop make the atmosphere comfortable.

Anthony is a master craftsman with cutting and styling hair. Very comfortable environment, kinda feels a little getting a cut from a friend. Extremely personable fellow and the pooches roaming the shop make you feel like family.
Big screen television with the news going so you can be up-​to-​date with your current events. And if you miss a segment, just ask for a rewind and catch up.
Anthony won’t let you leave until your 100% satisfied with his work. Worth the $ 21 investment.

I found Anthony on Unilocal while visiting my daughter in Philadelphia. This is a quirky shop, not quite an old fashioned barber shop, just a one man barber shop. Anthony clearly wanted to make sure I got the cut I wanted and listened to me.
The haircut was perfect. I feel lucky to have had a good experience at an out of town shop.

Just stopped in for my first cut after moving into the neighborhood. As a few have said on here, the shop is nothing fancy at all with absolutely no frills, but in my opinion, it adds to the character of the place. Goodfellas was playing on the tv while I waited, and when it was my turn, Anthony asked how I wanted my hair and then quickly got to work. Overall, I was very happy walking out of there, but my only issue was that it would’ve been nice if he had an air compressor to blow off more of the hair — again, this place doesn’t have much for frills, so I wasn’t expecting this. Definitely will be back.

A+ haircut every time. I make a point to stop by on my way home from work or just come in from South Jersey to get a haircut from Anthony. Personable guy, more than reasonable price, and always does a standup job.

Before I went here I cut my hair with clippers for 2 years because I was sick of getting bad haircuts. This place is the best.

I flagged the 2 star review from Alex since he wasn’t even in the place. Unilocal,being the Nazis they are, said it was fine yet they’ve removed over a dozen of my reviews WHEN I WAS ACTUALLY THERE! How can you rate a place 2 stars when you weren’t even there? Please go play in traffic.

Great shop. Great haircut. Its an authentic barber shop. If you want all frills go to center city and pay for it.

So I feel bad about just rating the place low since I didn’t even get my hair cut there, but upon walking in it was a bit unkempt. Pretty sure the barber lives there. He was really friendly on the plus side and it seems like those customers who go regularly love him.

Having moved to the area last year, finding a good barber was a challenge. I found Anthony by way of Unilocal and decided to give him a try.
Anthony knows what he’s doing. He’s methodical and precise, and will give you a great cut for a fraction of what most shops in the city charge. Sometimes the wait can be lengthy but he’ll have you cleaned up in under 20 minutes. Couple that with his 2 friendly dogs, Sinatra/​Rock music in the background, and eclectic furniture. Anthony’s is the best when you’re looking for a friendly barbershop and an excellent haircut.

Just got back from my first haircut at Anthony’s and was incredibly pleased with the experience! It was easily the most enjoyable (Anthony’s friend was in the shop and a blast to talk to) and well-​done haircut I have ever had. This was only my second haircut outside of San Diego and after my awesome experience today, I will be going back to Anthony as long as I continue to live in Philly.
