I agree completely with the reviewer Veronica V. The truck is never where he says it will be. I also have been trying to use my groupon. I have gone twice to Broad and Spring Garden on days that his online schedule said he would be there, well within the indicated time frame. The first time, a couple of weeks ago, the website said the truck would be there between 8am– 2pm. I went there at 11:30 am, and the truck was not there. I tried to send an e-mail regarding my difficulty finding the truck and I got an error message(something with their e-mail). Today, the truck was again supposed to be at Broad and Spring Garden. I went, and again, no truck, so I looked up the Buttercream cupcake lady and it said she would be at Love Park, I went there, and she was exactly where she said she’d be and I got a delicious lemon cupcake with strawberry cream cheese frosting. I called Groupon to tell them of my problems with Call me Cupcake and to request a refund, which they gave me.

I purchased 2 groupons to use at this truck. I was successfull in finding it the first time. The cupcakes were not bad, but the frosting was way too light for the heaviness of the cupcakes. Putting that aside, I tried 3 more times to go back to use the second groupon, but this truck is never where it promises to be. I find that unforgivable, after trekking across the city to its promised location, well within the time periods listed — thus the bad rating. To quote someone else’s review, this truck is just not worth all the drama. I will say that he runs a cleaner truck than the other truck mentioned below.

Last year, Call Me Cupcake showed up not too far from where I work. I’m a fat kid who loves cupcakes, so the prospect of having not one, but TWO cupcake trucks to fulfill my cupcake needs was pretty awesome. And, like the Other Cupcake Truck, these cupcakes were well priced and delicious. I would even say Call Me Cupcake’s vanilla/vanilla is the best I’ve had anywhere in Philly. A few months ago, though, I stumbled on their Twitter. There, I saw in public view, an attempt by CMC to not only assert that they were the BEST #1NOCONTEST cupcake in Philly, but to also slander the Other Cupcake Truck, actively recruit both its fans and its stops, argue with other establishments, and even accuse a food blogger of being a stoner. Sorry, CMC, the unnecessary drama over your cupcakes has left a bad bad aftertaste in my mouth. The comment left to Kate M’s review doesn’t help your case much either. A good product should speak for itself.

It’s hard to write a review of the cupcake trucks without comparing them, so I’m going to go ahead and do it. I don’t care if the other cupcake truck came first, I like this one better. The quality of the cake is much better than Buttercream’s, leading to a better overall cupcake experience. The flavors are fun(grab a smore cupcake if you see them!), and they are a great size and price. Plus, once I went and got a pumpkin cupcake and the guy gave me a second for free because the one he picked up was a little small. I would never have noticed! Stop by if he’s in your hood.

My special friend who knows how much I enjoy a tasty cupcake found the cupcake truck today at the Girard Street festival and lucky me I was presented with a sampling of 6. So far, I have only tasted the vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream. The cake was moist, almost sponge like but was good and the frosting was not to sweet and was just enough atop the cupcake. My friend had the chocolate chip pound cake with chocolate chip frosting and thought that was better than the vanilla cake. We also have a red velvet and pumpkin. The pumpkin will be my next one, I sampled the frosting and just know its going to be delicious. $ 10 for 6 and with the size of these treats, you can definitely split in ½ to allow for more tasting.

I learned of Call Me Cupcake after reading an article about the impounding of the«other» cupcake truck for being in Center City. The article briefly mentioned that this one had been impounded, too. Thankfully, both are back out on the street fighting the man and baking the path to justice. Call Me Cupcake has a few regular spots(including Temple and Temple Med, University City, and Love Park) as well as showing up for special events in various places, like at the Piazza. The schedule is posted on the website weekly. Mr. Dilks, the owner, is very pleasant and conversational. I got the red velvet and was not let down. Despite needing to be stored in a stuffy truck on a muggy day, the cake wasn’t overly chilled or dried out. The cream cheese frosting was smooth and sweet and cream cheesey, and wasn’t overly sugary or too light. Sometimes bakers think they can mix a tablespoon of cream cheese into regular buttercream frosting and call that cream cheese frosting – au contraire. Call Me Cupcake is clearly clued in. For what it’s worth, in my mind, Call Me Cupcake is the clear winner in the battle of the cupcake trucks. Don’t miss out.

I spotted a crazily decorated truck on Market St this afternoon. From its bright and erratic color patterns, something deep inside me(i.e. the fat kid that lurks in my youth) wished with all its might that it would be a roving cupcake truck. It was. Because I have no self control, I stopped and indulged. As I write this review, I am tasting the diabetic coma-inducing goodness in my mouth still. Delicious. Call Me Cupcake offers five basic varieties(chocolate, vanilla, carrot cake, red velvet, chocolate chip pound cake) as well as rotating specials, though none were in evidence on my visit. Per the information on their website, I’m interested in the key lime and peanut butter chip in particular. I opted for my standard carrot cake; some people cannot stop themselves from lunging after red velvet but I prefer to trick myself into thinking I’m eating something marginally healthy. The flavors were both spot on, though the cake could have been slightly moister and the frosting less heavy. At a mere $ 2(or $ 10⁄6), the price is right. As with the other cupcake trucks, make sure to check the website or their Twitter page for specific location information before heading out.
