My first Philly Cheese Steak in Philadelphia, PA. And it was great! I wanted it made up the same way a local would eat it. The peppers, the onions, the mushrooms and yes … Get ready … Cheese wiz. Really? Who am I to say no. If this is what the locals eat — I’ll try it. It was pretty good. Not sure if I’ll do this back home — but here in Philly, why not. You need to try it. The staff was really friendly, got to see pictures of the new born baby girl, very cute. The place is a little small, not many tables so get there early. Also –Momma’s pasta salad is the best!

Food was good. Cash only. 3 stars because one of the employees told us to move so he can mop so they can go home soon… at 730pm. They close at 9pm.

I am a fan of Campo’s for philly cheesesteaks! Unlike Gino’s or Pat’s, Campo’s philly cheesesteaks are juicy and tender. My personal favorite is the Heater cheesesteak only because I’m a huge jalapenos and hot sauce fan-it’s like eating cheesesteak with buffalo sauce and jalapenos. Great combo! Just make sure the meat is cooked all the way through, I had one that was slightly under cooked and I thought it would be alright but that was a bad idea. Other than that one time, Campo’s is still my favorite!

This is my favorite place to get a cheesesteak in Philly and I’m surprised to see so many low ratings. The Heater cheesesteak, topped with jalapeños and hot sauce, is delicious albeit non traditional. It seems like a lot if people in Philly are purists when it comes to cheesesteaks so I don’t know if many people like this variation on a cheesesteak as much as I do. However, there are plenty of places to get a traditional cheesesteak in Philly so I appreciate that Campo’s adds their own touch. The Campo’s cheesesteak also stands out because they use a softer roll than many places and the stick is more thickly cut. I enjoy the thicker cut steak because it doesn’t dry out as easily and from a texture standpoint, I find the soft roll to be more appealing. The only gripe I have is that they do charge more for a cheesesteak than other places in Philly and they don’t put as much meat on the sandwich. This isn’t a huge issue for me; I don’t live in Philly and since cheesesteaks such where I live, I’m willing to shell out a little more for a once a year treat. However, the price to meat ratio may be why some of the locals don’t seem to like it as much. I do wish they sold fries since nothing completes the fatty amazing was of a cheesesteak quite like French fries. Nonetheless, this place will always be a stop for me when in philly so I’ll just own my shameless tourist status!

A good cheese steak. Large bread with a lot of meat compared to Sonny’s. I got a sandwich from Sonny’s and my wife got a sandwich from Campos. Sonny’s was a bit smaller but more flavorful. The Campos while larger and meaty need salt and pepper to help it out.

Was here Saturday with my husband and friends of ours. We drove in to go to the Eastern State Penitentiary for Terror Behind the Walls, arrived earlier than planned and stopped for a little history and a real Philly Cheese Steak. This place was one of the top ten listed on the city’s website… It should have never been on the list. We were charged $ 15 for the worst cheese steaks ever. After one bite our friend tossed his out. We tried to eat ours but they were awful and we just couldn’t choke them down after a few bites. Should have taken pictures of how terrible they looked. We will never be eating there again. Had we known about Sonny’s, we would have gone there instead.

Absolute ripoff! Shady business practices here: Visited for lunch the other day. Ordered one sandwich, a drink, and chips. I unknowingly paid for a «commemorative pope cup»(a month after the pope visit) for an extra $ 5.35! I did not ask for a special holy meal. I have no desire for a $ 5 pope cup or a $ 17.66 meal for lunch. I will not be returning.

Another place where the reputation supersedes the actual taste of the food. Is it bad? NO, but its reputation that its one of the best places to get a cheesesteak in philly is just not true. Its avg at best. I would actually recommend the roast pork over the cheesesteak. Bread is good though. At $ 10 for an 8inch roll its a bit steep and again relying on tourists. Have i been back yes, but i was really in the mood for a roast pork sandwich. Staff is nice but it does have the vibe of one of those places where they expect u know they menu and if u ask a question they look at you like you cant be serious.

1 star for good customer service but –4 for the quality of the food. I’ve been to a few of the top cheesesteak spots in Philly and was really disappointed to eat this. The cheesesteak was super bland. The steak was not seasoned at all. And to make it worse they do not make fries. So all we ate was the sandwich(no side). It was like a pb without the j.

Don’t do it. Don’t get suckered in. Most disappointing cheesesteak I’ve had in Philadelphia. You figure, hey, if they serve it at the Phillies games, gotta be legit, right? WRONG. The sandwich I had here was fatty, chewy steak(barely filling the roll), hardly-grilled onions, crappy American cheese and overly spicy peppers. Just completely dissatisfying. Warning sign #1 should have been that the sign outside advertises«PHILLY cheesesteaks.» I should have turned around then and there. Oh well.

Going around Philly and wanting to try a different establishment’s cheesesteak, a stumbled upon Campo’s Deli to give this place a try. Campo’s Deli is not a particularly large place, and it is more of a simple and straight to the point place. There was a line when I was there but it moves pretty quick. I opted to try their Cheesesteak with sharp Provolone. This sandwich definitely tastes different as well, as they use more of a softer bread for it. After having the cheesesteak, I realized that I was not a fan of the softer, thinner bread, as it makes the sandwich soggy pretty quick after it is sitting for a few minutes. The steak itself in the sandwich was not bad but it did not taste anything special. I was also able to try their cannoli, which is homemade and made to order. This was good! It’s hard to explain but you can definitely taste the fact it was made fresh. The freshness comes at a price of $ 4 though. Overall this is a decent experience and you should try this cheesesteak if softer bread is your style. FYI: Campo’s Deli is CASHONLY.

The Basics: The Bread: Somewhat Stale The Meat: Sparse The Extras: Not Cheesy Enough, onions and peppers very good. This cheesesteak felt more like an appetizer than a meal. If you are choosing between here or Sunnys, there is no flipping of a coin, Sunnys wins hands down. I never like leaving a meal feeling unsatisfied, but that’s what is about to happen. Round 2 at Sunnys = Possibility. If you feel like you must try everyplace in philly, well then go right ahead Mr Philly CheeseSteak! But if you think I was right please make sure you mark this review as ‘useful’! On to Franklins IceCream… a guaranteed home run

My friend brought me here for a late night hoagie, stating it was one of the best in the city. I ended up purchasing a Philly soft pretzel with cheese and having them wrap my Italian Hoagie for lunch tomorrow. The staff was just finishing up the night and were very accommodating as their last guests of the evening. Thank you for making a Chicago native feel welcome and enjoy a solid meal for his last lunch in your fine city!

CHEESESTEAKS They probably beat most places on S. Street, and most in the ‘burbs, but unfortunately for Campo’s they are located a couple doors down from Sonny’s, who has to be the best cheesesteak in Philly. Compared to Sonny’s, I’d have to give Campo’s 2 or 3 stars, but compared to the greater philly area, they are more like 3.5 on cheesesteaks. ROASTPORKSANDIWCH For roast pork, they are really freaking good! Not as good as DiNic’s(who is far and away the best in Philly), but still much better than most. For roast pork, Campo’s deserved 5 stars. Overall they get 4 stars as the average of cheesesteak and roast pork.

Plenty of outdoor seating, conga line ordering. Fast service, even when the place is packed. Quality cheese steaks within walking distance of all of Philly’s main historical attractions. Authentically delicious cheese steaks… Enjoy!

Got cheesesteak #2 of the day, but this time with cheese wiz! It was tasty and The bread was soft and amazing. I’m not one to eat cheese wiz all day long, but it really does make the meat moist and was a perfect combination. We planned to eat this at the park across the street, but it started pouring rain! After getting absolutely drenched, we ate this delicious cheesesteak under some bridge. Everything got wet, but we saved the cheesesteak!

First thing is that they do have a GLUTENFREE roll, so you can get any sandwich on that roll! The cheesesteak, the reuben, I mean having this option is awesome and the only one that I know of in old city. I have had both the cheesesteak and the reuben on the GF roll and they were delicious! My husband has had their regular sandwiches and he loved them all. We have taken out and sat inside to eat, I prefer takeout as the seating inside isn’t the best and the tables are really close together. I am sure that in the warmer weather it’s probably better. I do wish they would stay open later on the weekends and I bet they would do more business. One Friday night all I wanted was that GF sandwich and dang it if they weren’t closed.

I recently decided to visit Campo’s because I heard that their cheesesteaks were some of the best in the city(they also are the only venue in the stadiums) and they happen to be around the corner from where I work. This place is a quintessential Italian sandwich shop, right down to the exposed brick walls, and it is family-owned to boot! Obviously, I grabbed a steak the first time I visited. The meat came chopped and just a little greasy/juicy. The provolone was adequately melted throughout and the rolls were pretty normal. The cheesesteak didn’t blow my mind, but as I mentioned previously, Campo’s does other sandwiches besides cheesesteaks, and they’re all good(especially one of the chicken ones – the Godfather?). Definitely order some sort of a hoagie when you come here. The cheesesteak, surprisingly, did come with a choice of side. My coworker got the macaroni salad and I got the potato salad, both of which were made by the cashier’s mother. If you’re looking for a classic taste for your picnic basket, you must order from Campo’s. Both the macaroni and the potato salad packed a big punch in the flavor department and tasted exactly the way you’d hope and expect.

The Philly Cheesesteak was pretty good but I thought it was kind of small compared to Geno’s and Pat’s.(That’s the only 2 other places I’ve been to.)The actual restaurant was a pretty good size but they definitey packed way too many tables & chairs too close together in that place to where you’re literally rubbing elbows with the person next to you as you’re eating. I could barely enjoy my lunch. We got the Philly Cheesesteak with onions & American cheese and a Grilled Cheese add tomatoes. The Grilled Cheese was really small for the price but it was good. The Cheesesteak too was small, the bread was good but I don’t feel they put enough cheese or onions in it. If I came back to Philly I would either try a couple of other new places or go back to Pat’s.I definitely wouldn’t make a special trip to come back here.

Based on recommendations from some Philly regulars, we decided to avoid the long lines and rivalry between Pat and Geno. There were decent reviews about Campo’s and it was located along our route, so we stopped here instead. The good: My cheesesteak(Whiz wit) was decent. I’m not a big steak eater, so if I ever come back, I will likely try their vegan/vegetarian options and see if I like them better. This location is also really convenient for tourists checking out the nearby historical sites, without the giant crowd of tourists at other popular cheesesteak spots. We didn’t feel like we were missing out on anything. There is also outdoor seating. The meh: We were there during Fourth of July, and although we were able to watch the parade from the comfort of the deli’s indoor seating, it was still pretty warm inside. Maybe they had fans on, but the window was opened to allow best visibility, so any a/c would have been inefficient. I can’t imagine what it was like in the kitchen that day. Would I recommend to someone else? Yes. For someone like me, who just wants a decent cheesesteak but skip the long lines with lots of tourists, or for someone who wants to try a variety of cheesesteaks while in Philly, Campo’s is a good choice.
