Was in Philly for the day and was looking for a place to grab a burger, on multiple sites this spot was #1 and seen it had been on Diners, Drive ins, and Dives. So me and my girlfriend decided to check it out. It did not disappoint. We had the Korean BBQ wings which were fried perfectly and really tasty. Then I had the good dog burger with caramelized onions, bacon, and sharp cheddar and she had the good dog burger with provolone. I can honestly say it might have been the best burger I ever had. Big, juicy, and cooked perfectly medium. The burgers came with a side of their fries which had sweet potato fries mixed in and a chipotle aoli sauce on the side. Then to add to the experience it was Philly beer week so we got to sample beer!

This was a bigger bar than expected. There were 3 floors to this place. The top floor did not have a bar, but just a place to hang out and chill. It was very convenient. There were also pictures of dogs on all walls, which was something different. The service was appreciated and everything came out in a timely matter even with the place being packed. The mussels($ 14) were ordered as an appetizer. There were about 40 or so small mussels. I will have to say these were the best mussels I ever had. They were steamed in Magic Hat #9 beer(I also had this as my drink!!!) with capers, shallots, garlic, chipotles, and herbs. There was a real nice kick to the mussels and all of them were fresh. All of the ingredients blended together unbelievably well. The capers were a real nice touch I thought. I ordered the lamb BLT($ 13). It was house-made lamb bacon with fresh tomato and lettuce with a chimichurri mayo on sourdough. This was my first time trying lamb bacon and I could not have been more pleased. The sourdough bread was great and the chimichurri mayo really added to this sandwich. There was a side of regular and sweet potato fries too. I liked the half and half type of fries here. It was also served with a chipotle aioli sauce, which was nice. Will I go back? Easily!

Very divey. the food is good. The staff is… reasonable. I feel like this is another place if you know them you are probably getting way better service than if you are a normy coming in from the outside world. The two guys besides us got this lovely conversation from the bartender who just like of looked at us like we were people made of solvent green. was he nice when we had him, yes. will we be back… absolutely.

Gotta disagree with most others, with the 951st review of Good Dog. It’s just not a place I can get into. There is basically one long bar, with booth — type seats on the side. Very dark inside. Though the food has been good the times I’ve been in here over the years, and they typically have a good variety of beers, it’s just too loud & not a scene I’m into. There are just too many other loud, dark bars in the city with descent beer lists, and descent food any more. This place just doesn’t stand out like it did 10 — 15 years ago.

Because it’s awesome and probably my favorite place to visit when I come to Philly. Good people, good beer, good food, good prices. Yep, fancy restaurants get 5 stars and so do great places that aren’t fancy — because they are great! Damn good burger.

The food is excellent but during my visit, it was cramped, noisy and several menu items were sold out. We were seated in the first floor bar area which was challenging for our group. Clearly there is a reason certain items were sold out but we weren’t late to dinner and it as a weekend. Hoping to brave the noise again, or preferably try a second/third floor table for a better and more complete experience!

No complaints here — excellent customer service, the food is great and the walls are covered with adorable photos of dogs!!! Also this places mixes sweet potato and regular fries which is GENIUS, I don’t know why all restaurants don’t do this.

Been there twice now. First time was a burger, which was very good. Second time was Memorial Day, which I appreciated them being open for lunch. Wings and banh mi sandwich. Wings were above average, but the sandwich didn’t meet my love of banh mi. Not their fault, as they are a pub, not a Vietnamese bakery. Service has been great and beer selection is unique. Just a warning, pretty cramped space, if you have more than 3 – 4 people, chances are you are not sitting together.

friend was visiting from ca and our first day out, i took her to center city. we got hungry and i wanted to try the foodery but they were so damn busy, we decided to keep searching. we ended up here and i am so glad we did. they have a big bar and booths downstairs, smaller bar and dining tables on the second floor, and then another bar with a pool table on the third floor. the first floor was buzzing so my friend and i decided to head up to the second floor for quiet. this place is covered in framed pics of dogs!!! SOCUTE!!! i love it! the service we received was amazing! our server was absolutely great! and i’m a stickler for good customer service. the food was also delicious. my friend had the good dog burger and highly enjoyed it. i had the brisket grilled cheese… o my. so good but their portions are huge. i had half my sandwich and fries leftover. we were gonna be walking around quite a bit but i also didn’t waste it. i had them wrap it up for me so i can give it to the first hungry person sitting on the street. on 15th and market, not hard to find. he was very happy and i was glad to have not wasted all that delicious food. i would def head back here, even if it’s just to have a drink at the bar and look at all the cute puppy pics!

There are many reasons to love Good Dog Bar, but its roquefort-stuffed burger is definitely top of the list. Good Dog is casual, cozy with some drool-worthy dishes. My recommendations? — The Good Dog roquefort-stuffed, caramelized onion-topped burger. Out-of-this-world! — Baked Macaroni and Cheese. Delicious, cheesy and crunchy. — Meatloaf. Because nothing says comfort food like meatloaf. Go. Grab a booth or wooden table, and get ready for your mouth to start watering. Enjoy. Repeat! Four and half Unilocal

Nice place for some eclectic beers and good food. Best sweet potato fries! Place is small, so not great for a hug group, but for a few people for dinner and drinks, definitely a good choice. Love the atmosphere and the people are great.

If I could give good dog bar more than 5 stars I would. Their good dog burger is not only the best burger in Philadelphia but the best burger I have ever had. This burger stuffed with Roquefort that oozes out and topped with caramelized onion is served with not only regular fries but sweet potato fries too! The goodness doesn’t stop there… the fries come with a sundried tomato aioli that is to die for. I actually get physical cravings for this meal it’s that good. Another highlight on their menu(even though I tend to get the same thing every time) is their buffalo shrimp po boy. Which also served with the combo fries and the aioli. Last tip: go on Wednesday’s-half off canned beer.

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner and drinks. Definitely a dive bar atmosphere and very tight quarters, but quality food and a great list of drinks!

If you’re craving a good burger or a shrimp po’ boy, this place is it. Their good dog burger contains so much flavor in one bite, especially with the Roquefort cheese infused into it. With the addition of caramelized onions on brioche, it’s probably one of the best burgers I’ve had in Philadelphia(and I’ve tried Village Whiskey etc). If you’re in the mood for a veggie burger, theirs is really good as well. My favorite item on the menu is their shrimp po’ boy. The panko-covered shrimp is fried and covered in buffalo sauce. It’s served in a French roll and is topped with bits of celery and blue cheese. The sandwich isn’t soaking in buffalo sauce and the shrimp are tender and have a veritable crunch as well due to the panko. The shrimp are also quite decently sized and you get enough per bite. I always get a side order of their sweet potato fries. They are the perfect texture and taste great with the tomato aioli. If you go on a Wednesday, you can get half off canned drinks. The atmosphere is that of a lively dive bar. The wooden walls are covered in black and white portraits of dogs and they have a bar area with several booths or you can go upstairs to their tables. They also have a small bar upstairs as well. I highly recommend this place for a fun, casual dinner or even just a stop for drinks and a snack!

The Good Dog burger is definitely the burger to order: stuffed with blue cheese and topped with caramelized onions on a toasted brioche bun. The cheese leaks through so be sure to soak it up with the accompanying fries. The only downside is that the burger itself can be on the dry side but the cheese filling helps to mitigate some of that. They were more than happy to give me all sweet potato fries rather than a mix, which was great since the sweet potato fries here are very good: crispy, slightly dense, and a bit sweeter than the other versions in Rittenhouse. It’s packed on the weekends but service is very quick. Just be cognizant that the music can be VERY loud.

We came here for lunch and craving some great bar food. I was pleasantly surprised. I had a salad arugula dried cranberries and blue cheese with grilled chicken(trying to be healthy) and my fiancé had the shrimp Po’ boy with sweet potato fries and regular fries. The salad was amazing! It was very tasty and satisfying. The shrimp Po’ boy was great according to my fiancé, and the fact that it had a variety of fries makes it different. They also have a great beer selection, good ambience and music(at a decent volume, you can hear your one conversation) I highly recommend it

We were looking for a burger joint and thought this place looked good according to the reviews but it wasn’t that great. Let me start out with the service. Our waiter was kind of rude and we always felt rushed when she came to check back on us every freaking 30 seconds, literally? Then when we got our food, she came back to see if we were already done after like 3 minutes lol. And asked if we needed boxes, c’mon really? The food was ok. I don’t think it’s anything special. I got some pretzel sandwich and my BF got some cheese filled burger. I really like their fries though! The restaurant is a little weird as you have to walk upstairs and it’s super TINY. I guess that’s what you get in the city, smushed tiny restaurants lol.

We came here simply because it was listed on the food network. The place is a bit divey which is cool. We had a few drinks and we ordered the cheese steak empanadas which were not that great. Maybe I will revisit and order other dishes, but as for now it was meh…

Good Dog is now one of my favorite bars in Philadelphia. I’ve been a number of times and consistently am satisfied. I spend very little time at the downstairs bar, to be honest, and head to the second floor to order my beverages. I take said beverages to the third floor, where the pool table and dart board are stationed. Sometimes I get one of their burgers. I think the one called ‘Good Dog’ is in my top three burgers in Philly. I would recommend to anyone who enjoys meat and cheese. It comes with their signature sweet/regular potato fries mix. An awesome spot to relax in the afternoon.

Good dog has good grub! Sat by the bay window on the top floor. Good people watching! We had the brisket grilled cheese, good dog burger, buffalo shrimp & fried pickles. The fried pickles were amazing crispy and not over fried. Pickle still had crunch. Brisket grilled cheese was yummy lots of flavor. The burger was very good. Buffalo shrimp was okay I like spicy… these were mild. Just a matter of taste. Overall good experience. I’ve been here a few times. I’ll be back again.

Headed over to the Good Dog early on a beautiful summer Saturday night with my daughter. We arrived around 6:00 and were seated immediately. We requested to sit upstairs and were given a window seat with a nice view of 15th street. We were even waved at by the Big Bus riders! The upstairs seating did not feel as noisy to me as downstairs. We went with the truffled cheese steak empanadas — shaved ribeye & truffled cheddar, bourbon infused rogue, chocolate stout emulsion. These were really well prepared and not greasy at all. I had the lamb meatballs — cucumber, tomato & red onion salad, tzatziki mayo on a rustic french roll and this was also a tasty sandwich. I usually get the burger, but I felt like trying something different and I am glad I did. My daughter had the grilled chicken-crispin cider brine, apple bacon chutney, smoked gouda & spinach on a pretzel roll. The roll was amazing and I would probably order this dish the next time. The sandwiches came with Good Dogs mix of regular and sweet potato fries and and a nice dipping sauce. We topped it off with bread pudding which was very good also, it would have been better if we both were not so stuffed. We had 2 beers also from their nice selection. Our bill was about $ 60.00. I have been to Good Dog a couple times now and it is a solid choice for causal and pretty darn good food when in the Avenue of the Arts area.

I came in for a few drinks the other night, and was not particularly impressed. It was a smallish-bar with a pub area. In the main bar area, the only place to sit if you don’t want to eat is… the bar… which is crowded. It’s not like there is a large area that one could wait and stand without blocking the flow of traffic. Fortunately, I accidentally inspired someone to give up their seat, so my friend and I could sit at the bar next to each other. Just ordered some beers. Apparently they only sell microbrewed trendy brews and PBR. Yes, it’s that kind of place. If you’re interested in a Bud or a Yeungling, you will be disappointed. So if you’re into fancy beers and have that sophisticated palate, you might like it here. The bartender was a tad inattentive, but not that bad. I wouldn’t say the service was bad, but not great either — it was just ok. I did notice a good amount of nice looking young men and women who seemed to be pretty social, so I would suggest checking this place out if you’re on the hunt to make new friends.
