I have had the pleasure of having my haircut regularly by Jim at his J Sima Salon for over a year now. For context, I am a male with particularly thick and medium length hair that has preferred my own developed hair style. Jim was the first individual I encountered, after a couple of years of searching, that was interested in creatively assisting me and working to develop my hair style. It took months and many visits to refine my taste and goal, but with Jim’s patience and skill I have never been more confident with how my hair looks.
Previously, I had wandered from salon to salon hoping to find someone interested in working with me and my ideas I had for my hair. As I learned the hard way, many hair stylists put in minimal effort in truly experimenting with you and your hair. Maybe it is their lack of confidence or experience, I am unsure. Through a lucky recommendation from a friend I sought out J Sima.
From the beginning I have always had a pleasant experience at J Sima Salon. The support staff are all very generous and helpful. Meanwhile the establishment is very well maintained and comfortable to visit.
I have referred many, both friend and acquaintance, to Jim for anyone looking for more than typical generic service and an average haircut. Especially for those looking for friendly and adept assistance in expressing themselves and their style with their hair!

First off… I’ve never taken the time to write a review… shame on me I guess… but thats how much I value J Sima Salon… enough to sit down a write a quick review.
For me, i’ve never really cared too much about how my hair looked… keep it short and walk out the door. However, my wife wants me to have some style… and thats where J Sima Salon comes in.
My first visit was intended to be unassuming… living in Society Hill I just wanted some place close that could get me in that day. So much for unassuming… I’ve been getting my hair cut there now for the last year.
Why? The answer is really surrounded by the word «awesome.» Awesome service, awesome staff, awesome owner, and awesome atmosphere.
I personally go to Bernadette who without a doubt… gets me! She knows the look, the style, and her attention to detail is off the charts! When I first met her, I really didn’t know what I wanted, but after her getting know what my hair was like, what my wife liked, and knowing my lack of patience for doing my hair in the morning… she gave me the perfect cut with the perfect style. Guys that have facial hair… she’ll even trim that and blend it all nicely with your new cut.
Over the past year, I’ve gotten to know the others who work there… and I can say they all show the same level of service and the same level of care that I experience with Bernadette. Quick note… the owner Jim makes it a point to say hi to everyone even if he is in the middle of cutting hair. The whole salon is very approachable and it starts with Jim!
J Sima Salon is an awesome salon and I HIGHLY recommend them.

Fantastic, Fantastic, Fantastic.
I had to write this review because they were so great.
I was staying at the society hill Sheraton (I live in Los Angeles) and they recommended this salon right across from the hotel. Now, I never believe that a hotel knows what they are recommending especially for a hair salon, but they were spot on!
I walked in WITHOUT an appointment at 3:30 on a Saturday afternoon for a straight blow dry and asked to be out the door by 4:30. «No problem» my band of angels sang to me with the best of good vibes (the owner and his faithful crew)
They wisked me into a shampoo chair and offered not only a cold beverage, but even a glass of wine if I wanted! It was 85 outside with equal humidity.
Bernadette was so fantastic and knows her stuff, She blew dry my hair perfectly, but most importantly… handed me the brush and styling stuff and said «I know how everyone has their own way of doing it, so show me how you like it and we can finish it off that way» OMG!!! Fantastic, music to my ears, I am such a stickler with my hair and she totally got me!!!
The blow dry was great, I looked like a million bucks and I enjoyed myself too!
I can not speak highly enough of this salon, and the lovely Bernadette, I only wish they were in Los Angeles.

J. Sima Salon was a refreshing treasure I discovered when moving to Society Hill Towers. Definitely a destination salon regardless if you live in the Towers or not.
The demographic is much hipper than anticipated being that it’s in the property of the Towers that use to be known for an older generation. Hot young women and guys in and out and great interesting current minded folk in older generations as well – the vibe is very modern-​great décor and unbelievable service – quick and attentive-​saturdays filled with complimentary bagels, schmears, mimosas, good coffee.****MOST VITAL INFO: my blowout and color f’n rocked! KellyBoyd was my stylist and she knocked it outta the ball park. I literally came in looking like a candidate for a Rachel Ray show type of makeover-​had been in jammies for two months straight, recovering from spinal cord neck surgery-​recently healed neck scar and prepping to return to real world of work, dating, etc – didn’t need a new cut, but need a new something. Technical terms for the flow of color, highlights and glaze were translated to me in a professional and accessible manner-​shape of my face and need of flow of waves were explained to me that felt like a good fit – all conducted in a timely manner with reasonable rates. My hair looks gorgeous and was more of what I wanted than I realized when I walked in – now that’s what you want– a stylist who can understand what you want and implement it way better than you can ever explain to them yourself.
also, feels good to support a biz where the owner walks in the shop in a modest way and just brings his staff lunch without asking –always a good sign you’ll get great service when the owner treats their staff well.
SUMMARY:
great cuts, color, blow-​outs for all genders. feels modern, current trends without feeling you are in a too cool for school hispter vibe, reasonable rates.

Just went to this salon for the first time-​Jim had to fix my hair from another salon. He did a great job!!!

I love this salon! All the staff are super friendly and accommodating. I see Bernadette every few months for a cut. She is by far the best hairdresser I’ve ever had. She listens to exactly what you want and makes sure her work is perfect before she lets you out of that chair. I leave here happy every time!

Jennifer is great! I’ve been going to her for a few years now (followed her from last salon) and she is good at everything (color, cut, keratin, etc.). Love her!

I just moved to the Society Hill area and have been looking for a new place to get my hair cut. A men’s cut is $ 30.00 which is very reasonable, however my old place, Slice, used to have specials every Thursday where mens haircuts were $ 20.00. For the amount of service provided, the extra 10 dollars is worth it.
The staff is very friendly. As I walked in, I was promptly greeted with smiles. A mens haircut comes with a pre-​wash and post-​wash. Bernadette did an amazing job. After asking me a few questions, she knew exactly what I wanted and took her time to make sure she cut my hair to my liking. I definitely will be going back!
