I almost gave this place four stars instead of five due to pricing. Yet it is in philly’s chic neighbourhood. And the area is nice as is the atmosphere of Mez. The food is simply the best, and the service is second to none. I think we began going back for the baklava alone.

I had lunch here the other day and thought it was pretty good overall. The waiter was attentive, the hummus was tasty and the kabobs my friend and I had were good but not great. I just feel like I’ve had better Turkish/Mediterranean food before…

yum… We were planning to go to Le Bus, but a ridiculous wait landed us here. I had a chicken gyro that was out of this world!!! Even my bf, who is pretty picky, enjoyed it too! The staff was pretty cool too. We will DEFINITELY be back!

I wasn’t blown away by the food here. Actually, it almost tasted microwaved to me. Also, none of the staff seemed to want to take responsibility for anything without the manager actually telling them to do it. Nobody greeted us as we came in or helped us find place to sit. The experience was mediocre, I am surprised at all the 5 star reviews.

It’s okay. I didnt really care for the hummus, it seemed watery but my entrée was good. I ordered the chicken sis kebob. It came with rice pilaf, turkish salad and pita. Because this place is in manayunk, I guess I was anticipating the modern feel. I really like when restaurants stay true to the traditional elements and focus more on the taste of the food rather than presentation. I still prefer Aromatic Kabob House which is in Center City. But after my last experience with getting towed by PPA, going to the city has left a somewhat bitter taste in my mouth. This place is a great alternative though.

The doner kebab here still dominates. The meat is just so tender. Use level up to accumulate reward points. I think that you get $ 6 for every $ 50 you spend.

This place has horrible service. they close their kitchen at the most odd times, they are not nice on the phone, and their food is average at best. I’ve been there twice and the food wasn’t good. just called them now to place an order(don’t know why i keep coming back for more) and they said their kitchen is closed… funny how they’re open but their kitchen is closed. do not go here for food. they need to know that just because they have the only turkish restaurant in the area, they can’t provide horrible service and average food. force them to be better or who knows how much worse things can get. WON’T GOBACKAGAIN!!!

Had a quiet lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon. My companion and I and 2 other folks. Not bad, the Donner kebab was good the chicken kebab looked good as well. Started with some very Nice cheese rolls(borek) with crispy philo wrapper and a very nice feta filling. The cold egg plant appetizer was good as was the shepherd salad. My only gripe was the fries. Kind of tasted as if they were batter dipped… not a favorite. Good service, worth a visit. BYOB

Disclaimer: I have no idea what the food tastes like here… BUTTHATDOESN’T MATTER. …BECAUSETHEGUAVA+BERRYSHEESHAPROVIDEDFORTHESMOOTHEST, CREAMIEST, MOSTLUSCIOUSHOOKAHEXPERIENCEEVER. The molasses’ richness seeped into the smoke, allowing magic to escape from every puff. The sweet berry flavor enveloped my mouth, and on the outtake, mixed with the cool evening air transporting me to mid-Century Turkey.

Kind of wish this sit down restaurant was more of a fast food joint. Super weird to have a falafel wrapped in paper that we ordered from a waitress. The falafel I had was comparable to a food truck falafel. Filling and perfectly fine, but nothing to get excited about(or return for). The whole place is kind of meh.

Thank god for Philly and its byob everywhere. Two stores over is a beer store so I bought some beers and had a great time with friends here. Service was great and food awesome. I had warm pita with extraordinary baba ganoush. I guess the perks of eating with someone with extreme eggplant allergies was that I don’t ever have to share hehe :)

I was really excited to try this Turkish Café as soon as I noticed it had opened. I have been back twice in the past 2 weeks because the doner gyro. The lamb is seasoned to perfection and they give you plenty of it. They have a gazillion cold appetizers(which are mainly different dips with grilled pita) and smaller amount of hot appetizers The hot app I got was the filo wrapped feta with chive, which, as a salt lover, was a bit too salty for me and I got the spicy veggie dip as a cold app, which was DELICIOUS!!! Their Turkish ice tea is pretty awes as well.

What happened to this place? I went with my fiancée last summer and we had a good experience. We each got a lamb entrée and both were solid. During that visit, we noticed the table next to us order gyros and they were huge so we were excited to try them the next time we visited this place. We returned last night and our experience was just not good. First off, unless it was the waitress’ first day, there is no excuse for her lack of knowledge of the menu. If you’re a vegetarian working at a meat-centric restaurant, figure out what to tell customers when they ask about dishes rather than saying«I don’t know. I don’t eat meat.» I ended up ordering a beyti kebab pita and my fiancée ordered a standard gyro. Luckily we weren’t in a hurry because it took 15 – 20 minutes to get our wraps and there was only one other table. When we got our wraps, mine tasted fine, but there was about half as much meat in it as I would expect from a normal pita and there was no resemblance at all to the huge gyros we saw when they first opened. My fiancée’s had a good amount of meat, but the gyro meat, for lack of a better description, tasted like a Mediterranean man’s arm pit. It tasted exactly like B.O., no lie. I was still hungry after eating my smaller pita so I dealt with the«gaminess» and finished hers. My stomach has been rumbling ever since as I write this 12 hours later. We won’t be back, unfortunately. I was happy originally happy to see a good ethnic food place on Main Street.

The gyro is fine. The hummus is fine. The service is fine. This place is fine. I don’t mean like the 1990s «fine» which was the greatest compliment in my teenage arsenal.

I’ve been to this restaurant many times since moving to Manayunk a few months ago. My experiences have been consistently good on all counts, and they are our go to place when I don’t feel like cooking. The food is excellent, fresh and tasty. My favorites are the baba ganoush and the lamb pita wrap. The baba ganoush is perfect, the best I’ve ever had, and is often still warm from the oven. The lamb pitas contain actual whole pieces of lamb meat, rather than the amalgam of lamb and(beef maybe?) that is rotisseried and sliced at many mediterranean restaurants. Although I believe that that type of meat is also available for those who enjoy it. The salads are absolutely enormous, and come in a variety of flavors combinations. The service is always very friendly, if occasionally harried. It seems they’ve been trying to hire new waitstaff forever, and on a weekend they can be pretty crowded. The prices are very reasonable. Five dollars for a vegetarian pita wrap, seven dollars for a «meatatarian» pita wrap.

Best Hummus I have ever tasted. You can get it with wheat pita to go. So fresh and full of flavor.

i have been to this great eatery more times then i can count and never have been disappointed with them. the owners/employees are the nicest people i have ever come across and will go out of their way to accommodate you in any way. they are BYOB and do serve hookah out doors… everything is homemade. for appetizers I recommend the«Sigara Boregi» which are lightly fried filo dough filled with feta and the Sheppard’s Salad. for dinner go with any of the kebabs you really can’t go wrong. you can choose to have the kebabs served over rice or this bread drowning in yogurt which is just as good but a bit more filling. make sure to leave room for dessert because it is homemade and delicious. I recommend the coconut cake(if they aren’t out of it), baklava, or the rice pudding. as far as drinks go try one of the authentic turkish juices or sodas or a nice cup of turkish tea/coffee…

Went here on a visit to Manayunk after brew pub. It was around 11 when we got there so we went next door and got some beer since it was BYOB. We ordered a mixed flavor shisha(don’t recal what it was now) and sat and enjoyed ourselves to death. It’s a great location, great for people watching. My brother who lives there saw like 10 people he knew walk by. We saw people walk by towards the bars and saw them stumble by again after the bars closed. It was quit funny actually. Many people came up asking if we had weed in our shisha haha, we kept informing them that that would not be a wise idea considering it’s right on the street. The owner seemed to know my brother so he came out and sat with us. He was really nice and I spoke to him about my trip to Turkey many years ago. Like most Hookah bars, there is some rule about ordering more than a hookah or something. This place is no exception. We ordered some baklava which was sooo good(most of the time baklava is too sweet for me and gives me a stomach ache, but this was perfect). The waitress was really sweet and the owner made sure our coals didn’t go out. I’m not sure how the real food is, but this place is a great hang out spot. We stayed until almost 3, but I think they stay open later, maybe even until you decide to leave.

Ever since reading The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe I’ve longed for Turkish delight. I am overjoyed to see Meze Café on Main Street and happy to say that I’m enjoying some delicious rose flavored td as I type. The space is not quite done yet, but the owner informed us that they’re planning to have table service towards the back, with more cafeteria style grab and go service up front. We sat at an outside table to share Yaprak(stuffed grape leaves) and later enjoyed baba ghanoush(eggplant), falafel and doner(gyro) pitas. Everything was reasonably priced — meat pitas are priced $ 6 to $ 7, vegetarian ones are $ 5. The falafel was mildly spicy, flavorful and fresh. The grape leaves were amazing. Simply amazing! The food alone would be enough to draw me back, but the kind and gracious owner makes me want to stop by more frequently. He was incredibly friendly, accommodating and easy going. All meats are halal. They have Turkish coffee and boxes of Turkish delights are $ 6. What are you waiting for?
