Yikes, I am not sure what’s wrong with Milk & Honey. This place has undergone a solid and steady decline in the last 4 – 5 years. This used to be my go-to place for coffee, lunch, pastries, and last minute groceries. However, the last 5 times I’ve been here, I’ve had to walk out all but once because the service was either slow and rude(even when only one other person was in line in front of me), or they ran out of the item I was looking for, even though the item selection has already heavily shrunk in the first place. It’s a rather unhappy place now. Maintaining a greater product selection is probably tough, but I think an area more easily improvable could be to at least boost worker morale so they aren’t as careless with customers.

A cozy corner café with friendly staff and a small market selling(mostly) locally sourced items. For the name, it’s surprisingly vegan friendly. Even have homemade hummus and tofu cream cheese.

I come here pretty regularly and have tried almost everything on their menu, and must say they are different almost every time. Some days their zucchini bread is the only zucchini bread I will ever eat, and some days it tastes like the same ol’ zucchini bread I would never touch. When I order bagels I order it to be scooped out, and some days they do it with a smile on their face, and some days they rudely tell me that’s not a real thing. Sometimes the employees greet me when I walk in, and sometimes they have an entire conversation with someone else while taking my order, then give me the stink eye when I only tip 50 cents. Overall it’s a convenient location, but you know it isn’t the best place when the coffee shop 3 blocks down is always packed and this one is empty.

I wanted to see for myself why three star reviews while in a very good location.(who am I kidding, was looking for coffee filters and I was very low on caffeine!) I will like to state that my review is based solely on a one time and a macchiato. The place needs a little bit more cleaning for my opinion but nothing exaggerated. The service was a little below average and their macchiato also. If with the milk, you can still taste an ashy, bitter flavor that means a few things: too much of a fine of grind, to slow of extraction, or poor coffee beans. Two of this options equals an inexperience or better said: an untrained Barista. The baristas in many places often forget or do not realize that who ever is going for a coffee in the morning, the odds are that«you»(the barista or counter person) are among the very first people the client will see in their day. So the barista interaction with the clientele is soooooo important! it can set up the tone for the next few hours of our day even. Hence I understood why the have three stars instead of four or even five. They do have a good size panini menu amongst other market things like farm milk and bacon for example and a good selection of coffee beans from local rosters. I think the concept is very good but needs a more precise execution.

I stop into Milk & Honey some Sunday mornings before service at church down the street. Only super hipsters go there. I haven’t been particularly wow-ed by it to be honest. The bagels are really mediocre, as is the coffee. If you sit down you get a free refill, but they won’t let you take the second cup to go. I’ve found the service to be slow and one of the workers a little rude at times. Also, NOWIFIONWEEKENDS! It does the job when I need a my caffeine fix, but certainly not my favorite coffeeshop in Philly.

I’ve liked everything that I’ve tried at this place so far~ It’s a good place to either sit to do work or to meet with friends. Though the place is not too big, their tables are pretty large and they also have seating outside so I never have issues finding a place to sit. They have baked goods, fresh fruit smoothies, juices, breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Their pastries run out if you go too late, so if you want to try some, try to go earlier in the morning! The place is a market as well so they have fresh produce, honey, fruit preserves, coffee beans and other goodies :) But the market portion is tiny so don’t expect to do major grocery shopping here or something… heh Their food is fresh, portions are reasonable(especially their sandwiches) and their coffee is also pretty good! I usually get the egg sandwich on wheat bread/bagel with jam on the side and I really like it. The egg is not too salty and the cheese melt on the bread makes the overall taste very warm and soft. I especially love their almond croissant — it’s not too greasy and it has a perfect balance of bread and almond butter! I also enjoys their smoothies because they are not too sweet and the fruit tastes fresh.

Great to sit and work or even meet friends for coffee and a snack. The coffee is good and fresh. The food is simple, tasty, and fresh. None of that pre wrapped garbage, that they nuke real quick. Outdoor seating. Comfortable. Good people watching. Little pricey but I’d rather pay more for good products, than save a dollar or two for crap. Oh and they have a good cheese selection. The employees are always kind, and attentive. Once I dropped my sandwich on the floor on my way to a table, And they made me a new one, no charge. So sweet considering it was my fault. I wish I knew her name. Blonde hair and fabulous red lipstick. But everyone is great. Highly recommend.

Solid three-star place for lunch. I use to love their tofu sandwich but they took it off the menu. There’s a couple deli style sandwiches but nothing to write home about. The groceries seem fresh but overpriced. The service is usually good and I love cute, organic atmosphere. Beware that there are a lot of people(read: hipsters and college kids) who come to study and take up the few tables. Most of the time it’s hard to get seating and there’s no AC which is a pain in the summer.

who knew a hoagie could Taste so good? I ordered the Italian Market Hoagie and it had the perfect amount of everything. It was taste and each ingredient had a perfect balance. They had plenty of options when it came to sandwiches, hoagies, bagels, and more. They only thing that is annoying is the seating. You either have to be there really early to get a seat or you need to be prepared to have your meal to-go. I would definitely come back otherwise!

I seriously don’t understand why so many people are bummed out on the staff-I’ve been going here for years and have only gotten great customer service. Then again, I don’t need my hand held every time I walk into a store, so there’s that too. I’m a pretty consistent«bacon, egg and cheese sandwich» guy in the mornings, and theirs is damn delicious. The bacon is great, and if they’ve got baguettes in you’re looking at a quality breakfast right there. For a non Dunkin/Starbucks breakfast the prices are competitive, I just wished they served breakfast longer(but it’s a small place and I understand you’ve gotta switch between breakfast and lunch prep at some point.) The market prices are quite high, but what did you expect? It’s more a café than a market, don’t expect Aldi prices.

Don’t waste your time here. Worst customer service in West Philly. No kidding. And everything that makes it a «market» is way over priced. The only reason I went inside was the cool looking logo, which proved to be the only cool thing.

A cute neighborhood shop that we like to stop into every so often for breakfast sandwiches and coffee. Had pretty lackluster service today. Wasn’t very busy bc of the«storm» and we ordered two bagels with cream cheese on the side. The guy took our order then proceeded to do other stuff like make coffee for ten minutes while we stood there waiting. Which is fine but the length of time and the fact that no one else was waiting was kind of weird When we got home there was cream cheese on the bagels. On the plus side, they sell Lucifer spice. Highly recommended local seasoning.

Milk and Honey is an okay spot. They have sandwiches, coffee, bagels, breakfast pastries, and little bit of a market, like a real little bitty amount of stuff. It’s kind of more organic and fancy type of stuff. If you like this stuff, it’s okay. They have interested breads they use for their sandwiches. I like this, but having basic options would be nice. My wife and 3 year old would be a lot happier. They are nice, but can be real slow. The servers casually take their time. When they are not busy, it’s no big whoop. But if they even get a small line going, the wait really tries your patience. On top of all this, they are a little bit on the pricier side. Not real bad, but more than a more basic place. I don’t really think it’s worth it. Not for me at least.

I brought my mom here for a late breakfast, but breakfast isn’t served all day, so we ate paninis for breakfast. Sandwiches might be my favorite food group, and whoever decided to heat them up is a full on genius, who doesn’t love a fucking toasty sandwich? Anyway, these were decent paninis. Also good smoothies. All reasonably priced. Because this is Philly, you could probably get a decent italian sandwich for like two dollars at a deli or a cheesesteak spot nearby, and skip this spot… but if you WANT to eat a toasted panini with a fancy italian name in the comfort of a gentrified café with subway tiled walls and local chocolate milk in the cooler for only a few more dollars,(sometimes I want to do that), you should go here. Anyway, my mom liked it, it’s definitely a mom-friendly place. A weird side note is that, while we were eating, my mom was telling me about this pretty epic stress dream she’d had the night before with a lot of twists and turns, and the guy two tables away thought she was telling a real story, and came over to tell us that he was a journalist and would like to interview us about it. So fyi, careful what you say at this café. Someone is listening. Soon after, a woman came in to meet him for an interview. What is her story?! Where can I read it? I must know. Anyway, onne day, I’m gonna come in and buy one of those chocolate milks.

I wish I could give Milk & Honey 5 stars… The location is great, outside seating a bonus, iced coffees are delicious and so are the paninis and bagels BUT and it is such a big but… the place simply isn’t very clean. Over the past few months it seems the staff have gotten friendlier but the place seems dirtier every time I go. From the displays to the food prep area and not to mention the bathroom which I cannot even speak about. Sorry milk&honey…I would love to continue visiting BUT I can’t until that changes and will have to head further up or down Bmore Ave for my coffee and grub…

Here’s the thing, Milk & Honey, you could’ve been the greatest. You’ve got that plumb location snugly on the corner of 45th and Chestnut. You have some delicious(in theory) menu items on your chalkboard. Those Fresh Prince themed smoothies? I’m mad for a pun too! Free wifi? Where do I sign? NEVERTHELESS! You are consistently under stocked. Those fancy menu items are never actually available because you are out of at least one of the ingredients. You are overpriced. Maybe don’t sell the same exact items as Fu Wah at a 40% mark up? But the kicker now and forever is the abysmal customer service. For the love of all that is holy, when a customer walks in say«hello». Say«we’ll be with you in a moment». Say anything really just acknowledge that you are aware of their existence, please! The aforementioned hiccups could be forgiven if the staff was not consistently aloof and begrudged. Really. A little courtesy goes a long way.

Milk & Honey was a cute little market to pop into for breakfast on a weekend morning, but I probably wouldn’t come back here to do my shopping. Well, I definitely wouldn’t since I don’t live in Philadelphia, but you know what I’m saying… LOVE the fact that they have gluten-free bagels that still made me feel like I was eating a bagel. The«deluxe» comes fully loaded with cream cheese, arugula, tomato, and capers alongside the solid portion of smoked salmon. I would say they were heavy-handed with the cream cheese, but it was otherwise delectable. Pretty pricey, even before the gluten-free add-on expense. If you are out of one gourmet grocery item or a fruit or veggie, give it a go and come on over here, but otherwise I’d recommend sticking with the traditional grocery. There’s not a ton of seating, so your best option is what my gal pal and I did — pick up your breakfast to go, and have a picnic in Clark Park!
