Best sushi place in the area. If you’re looking for quality– go here. Been going here for 10+ years and it’s better than any other new place in the area.

To-Yo is a wonderful restaurant with fresh and interesting offerings. the staff is always as welcoming as can be and the sushi really can’t be beat in this area. i’m lucky to have it so close to my office(almost next door) as it’s such a treat. also, the lunch specials offer a lot of food for a low price. highly recommended!

Came here for lunch with my parents today and have been here several other times. We really enjoy the sashimi specials here because they are fresh and and the rolls are very creative and large. I would say this is my favorite sushi place in Northeast Philadelphia and its a byob. My favorites include: sea food soup and 3 love roll for appetizer. Felix roll, lexus roll, don roll, and spicy tuna are my favorite rolls. The service is really good and the ticket times are fairly fast. I think for Bustleston ave its a little pricy but it is really good and great quality. I would definitely keep coming here.

Absolutely best and freshest sushi in the area! This place is a little in the expensive side but well worth it. Their 3 kind love appetizer is great and the uni is so fresh and delicious! Only place we go.

Love the sushi here. The staff is friendly and always attentive. Awesome sushi lunch special of $ 13 for 3 rolls and choice of soup or salad. I started off with hot green tea. The tea had perfect strength with a velvet like smoothness. They gave me sugar and it wasn’t funky like other asian cuisine places where it may clump and stick like wet sand or you have to break up hardened sugar packets! Not here :) Each sip was pleasant and the staff kept my cup topped off. I decided to begin my meal with the clear soup in lieu of the miso. Glad I did because the clear soup hit the spot since it was very cold out. Each spoon full seemed to blanket the perfect temperature plus the sodium level was ideal. The few strands of seaweed at the bottom was a nice touch giving you a little bit of substance. I was boring and chose all 3 of the same rolls and I’m glad I did. The crunchy spicy crab roll was AMAZING!!! The crunch made this roll was special as each bite gave me the texture that I was craving. The crab mix was flavorful and did not elicit any fishy smell. A sign of great ingredients! The spicy mayo on top was the ideal amount as each mouthful was not overwhelmed. The meal ended with complimentary fresh cut fruit that lay inside a bowl made from its carved out fruit skin. Juicy and flavorful. ToYo is a place for a great meal that I thoroughly enjoyed. This place is a must for quality cooked or uncooked sushi at a price point that won’t break the bank! An added bonus(only at the Philly location) are ToYo bucks given toward future meals. They come in denominations of $ 1 and $ 5 depending on the total of your bill. They lay inside your bill and keep in mind there are expiration dates that won’t be honored if you exceed that date. Nobody is turning down free sushi. A nice touch and unexpected addition! You’re Welcome for this find. Fyi, there is another ToYo in Doylestown.(same management)

This is the Best sushi restaurant in North East. I have been coming here for over 10 years. The food never disappoints, always fresh and creative. I agree with earlier review about half priced sushi. If you want quality with lots of fresh fish– To-yo is the place to be. Their sushimi rolls are to die for. Their absolute best is seafood soup and spicy tuna pizza!

First of all, I’m slightly more of a sushi purist. I love sashi, nigiri sushi. If that is what you like, this place is for you. I have talked to Wilson the owner, and he is very picky about the quality of his fish. For people who like their ½ price places where you get your tempura and spicy salmon rolls covered in sauces, you might consider this overpriced. If you love raw fish straight up, this is as good as it gets until center city.

I’ve eaten here three times. The first two I had cooked food. Tonight my friend and I ordered just sushi. I am very disappointed. Fish is dry, tough and tasteless. The rice wasn’t cooked right. Also who wants to eat sushi with the skin of the fish still on it? Yuck! I’m done, who wants my To-yo dollars?! lol

I would have given this 4 stars because it’s a little pricey. Definitely the place we go when we want to splurge a bit on sushi. But I had to give it five stars because of the $ 15 Russian Honey Roll. It is divine. Heaven in my mouth. Salmon and avocado, draped in more salmon, and drizzled with sweet and tangy Nuta sauce. It’s expensive, but it’s also a huge 10 piece roll. I also need to shout out to the $ 9 avocado salad. Expensive, but it’s big enough for two. It’s a full half of an avocado, plus delicious tempura crunchies and an amazing dressing. I never order anything other than the above — what more could you want?

I love Tuna and this is the best place to get it. Plus this place has hands down the best spicy mayo ever and I have been to easily 200 sushi places all over. Best meal that I get every time and I leave full –Miso Soup –Tuna Cake –Tuna Box The cake is made with spicy tuna and the Box is made with red belly tuna. Both come with the spicy mayo but the box has a dark tint to it. Whatever it is it makes THEBEST spicy mayo ever. I practically eat the plate.

I’ve never had a bad experience at Toyo. The fish is always fresh. Their spicy tuna rolls/hand rolls are so good. The Osaka box is my personal favorite. It’s a variety of fish over rice with spicy mayo. It’s about $ 20 and very filling. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Once they get to know what you like, they’ll try and convince you to try something new. They give you To-yo dollars at the end of your meal to use on your next visit(depending on how much you spend). Toyo gets 5+ stars from me!

Good atmosphere, friendly staff, to-yo«dollars» at the end of every meal and great rolls. When anyone asks for a recommendation on what to order i always say the same exact things: Don 3 roll, Love Roll, Salmon Sashimi and the Avocado salad.(not at once lol)…So far everyone that I have ever introduced to to-yo has always gone back. It is not a cheap place however. the typical salad is 10 bucks and a large roll such as the Don 3 is about 20. Pricey? yes. Worth it? yes.

Alright, I admit, since I’ve had really really good sushi, I’m probably more particular about this type of food. The only good thing about this place was the company: P Pros: Really nice wait staff, they smile, they’re friendly, and very attentive. I admit the Love Roll was a cool idea and not that bad, it was afterall, in the shape of a heart. Maybe their best rolls are cooked or include shellfish — both of which I haven’t had here. Oh yes, and they offer«To-Yo» dollars everytime you dine here, so you can use them on return trips. Cons: Soggy rolls. The first time I was here, we ordered 4 rolls and I don’t know if it was because they were all on the same plate, but anytime we ordered any roll with the mayo sauce, it was wet and soggy. Tasted alright, sure, but the soggy-ness ruined it for me. Maybe I’ll get cooked food here next time so they can get at least 3 stars out of me.

To-yo is a pretty decent sushi place. I’ve had better, I’ve had worse. The fried rice is delicious. The place is way too pricey, however. I took some friends there, and when our $ 150 bill rolled in and everyone was still hungry, I thought I was going to get stoned in the parking lot. I had a horrible experience with a serveer there. After settling the aformentioned bill, she came over, and annouced loud as could be that we only left her a $ 5 tip. 1) a tip is a tip, be grateful…2) we left her $ 35, she just couldn’t add. I thought that was the rudest thing I have ever encountered in my life.

Get the gyoza soup. It’s like wonton soup’s prettier, smarter sister. You know the one. You see the family portrait and just feel bad for the ugly one. The soup is ‘pricey’ at 8.95 but it can serve a few as a side or be a meal for 2 people. Floating in a rich clear broth and surrounded by ribbons of cabbage and mushroom tasty plump gyoza that is packed with filling goodness. The broth is flavorful from the mushrooms and cabbage. The textures are all pretty consistent with soft mushrooms that just have a slight bite to them still, cabbage that is soft, but not mushy, and gyoza that is made of paper thin wonton liners. The sushi is fantastic too! I got a spicy tuna roll which was really good but the show stopper was the Don Roll. The inside is spice tuna but the outside is covered with thin pieces of eel, yellow belly tuna, and avocado. It’s a huge roll and is a really good. The spicy tuna is actually spicy and the eel was cooked to perfection– slight tangy char on the edges. The yellow belly tuna is something new to me but it made a perfect menage a trois of fish. I tried my friend’s sweet potato roll and that was simple but good too. They just execute everything really well here.

If your idea of a sushi restaurant is in crappy Chinese restaurant service, ambiance of a social security office, and of a fish conservationist, this place is for you. The good: BYOB, innovative rolls The bad: improperly made rice, little fish used, chirashi is plain bad, nigiri has little fish on it, service is slow, teenage crowds are loud, and I get diarrhea every time 20 minutes after leaving the place.

I passed by this Japanese restaurant yesterday after getting my windows tinted at Shades of Gray and decided to grab some lunch special. I got the Oyako donburi and a specialty roll. While the Oyako lunch special was priced relatively well at 7.95, the chicken was dry and the sauce that came with my salad seemed like a sricacha blend instead of the usual ginger sauce. What I was especially disappointed in was the specialty roll I bought. For 12.95 I expected something better and the roll was quite meh. Unfortunately I didn’t remember the name of the roll, but it consisted of crunch and tuna. The tuna didn’t look that fresh but it tasted ok and the roll itself didn’t look that appetizing. If the price was lower I would probably give this place a 4th star, but for 8 small pieces of just ok, then this place is gonna earn an «A-ok»
