Excellent dentist, kind & efficient office staff, and always available in a dental emergency. Insofar as one can love visiting the dentist, Dr. Rust’s office is an enjoyable version of a necessary stop. Don’t really know what you are thinking — perhaps a little blood scares you. It happens when you have your teeth cleaned. Suck it up.

I went to see Dr. Toni Rust for a routine cleaning. This was the first and only time I ever received treatment from this dentist. She performed the cleaning and had her assistant take four bite wing x-rays. The cleaning started as usual with Dr. Rust using a scaler to remove hard plaque from my teeth. It is typical for there to be some discomfort and a small amount of blood associated with this task as the dentist scrapes each tooth around the gums. I have never spit up as much blood as I did during this visit, however. Dr. Rust scraped around my teeth with the precision and delicacy of a blind person with Tourette syndrome. She would scrape around 2 – 3 teeth at a time and then direct me to spit my mouthful of blood into the sink, a result of her fast, careless work. After noticing me wince a few times, she made a comment inferring that the pain/blood was indicative of «a good cleaning» which is ridiculous to the point of being sadistic. I, personally, have a relatively high tolerance level for this kind of pain, but this was brutal. Luckily for me I suppose, the scraping was as quick as it was excruciating. The entire scraping portion of the cleaning took five minutes as I noted with my watch. From receiving dental cleanings at least biannually for the past 20+ years, I know that this task should take much longer than five minutes if done correctly. After the plaque scraping, Dr. Rust then proceeded with buffing my teeth with a high speed polisher. This task took four minutes to complete as I again noted with my watch. Dr. Rust rushed through the buffing as if it was a timed event, polishing multiple teeth at a time. Citing previous experience again, all of my prior dentists/dental hygienists have polished one tooth at a time before moving on to the next rather than doing entire sections of teeth at once. The last task was taking four bite wing x-rays since it had been more than a year since they had last been taken. Dr. Rust’s assistant handled taking the x-rays and left them on the light board to be reviewed by the doctor when she was ready. Dr. Rust eventually came into the room, looked at the x-rays for what couldn’t have been more than four seconds before declaring«everything looks good». I don’t believe she could have successfully analyzed four different images of all of my teeth in that amount of time. Dr. Rust then exited the room to see her next patient while telling me I was done and that I should go to the front desk to schedule my next cleaning in six months. The treatment I received was completely unacceptable. Dr. Rust was physically brutal during the scraping portion to the point of being negligent. The gums around a large number of my teeth remained throbbing, enflamed, and bled each time I brushed for over a week after the cleaning. During the cleaning, Dr. Rust scraped especially violently around my bottom left wisdom tooth. The gums around this tooth ended up getting infected because of trauma sustained from Dr. Rust’s scraping and I had to seek the evaluation of a different dentist. It has been two weeks since the original cleaning from Dr. Rust and the infection has still not totally resolved itself. Beyond Dr. Rust’s careless scraping, the entire appointment was so completely rushed that she couldn’t have done an acceptable job even if she were competent. The dentist I went to to evaluate the infected gums around my wisdom teeth blocks off an hour for cleanings. Compare that to the 10 minutes of rushed brutality I received from Dr. Rust and no wonder the quality of service I received was so shoddy.

Being new to the area I went to Dr Rust for a cleaning– not so good. Granted I haven’t been to the dentist in a while, but she was too rough, my mouth was so sore afterwards. I needed two fillings and asked about the white colored ones and she went against it– said silver fillings are fine. Anyways, after the fillings were done, my one tooth hurts even more and is so sensitive now. I ended up going to a different dentist and he said the fillings were not done properly AND he doesn’t know of any dentists that still use the silver fillings– they make tooth sensitivity worse. Needless to say I will not be going back to Dr Rust.

By far the best dentist I’ve ever been to! Admittedly, I’m horrible with getting to the dentist and when I do finally go, it’ll be another three years before I go back again. This could be because I have a very low tolerance for pain or for the mere fact that I’m uncomfortable with having other peoples hands in my mouth stretching my jaw apart. What I’ve come to find with some dentists are that they can be rough and really don’t explain what needs to be done or why. It’s almost like their main concern is to do the work and submit it to the insurance, regardless of quality or care. At least that’s been my experience. Who knows? What I do know is that Dr. Toni Rust is an awesome dentist and truly cares about oral health. Her office is very flexible to my hectic schedule, they’re very good with last minute appointments, Toni explains every detail about what she’s doing and the reason why and her true agenda is getting your teeth looking great. I plan on being a long-term patient of Toni’s dental practice and recommend her to anyone that’s looking for a new dentist!
