Wawa

If you do not have a product, do not put it on your menu board and/​or touch screen. Do not offer me an explanation of, «oh well» when I point out the above mentioned fact. Poor customer service and a much poorer selection of items will drive me away from supporting this location.

Wawa is superior to other convenience stores. It’s a bold claim, I know, but one not easily contested. This review is specific to the 9201 Frankford Avenue location only, at the corner of Frankford Avenue & Linden Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.
This reflects upon one unfortunate incident and one wretch of an employee.
A few years back, I stopped in here and made a small purchase of about five or six dollars. I handed the cashier a twenty dollar bill. She gave me change and I exited the store. Before I ever got to my car, I quickly realized she had given me change for a ten, not a twenty. I immediately returned, alerted her to what had happened and asked for the rest of my change.
At first she sort of just shrugged it off like, «umm no, I didn’t.» I insisted. She checked her drawer and claimed she had not received any twenties recently, the twenties she had were from earlier in the shift. Odd assertion. We went back and forth and I was getting a real arrogant pushback from this lady. I wasn’t letting this go, it quickly became more about her reaction than about the money.
Ultimately, she took the drawer into a back room to count it. After taking an inordinate length of time, no doubt intentionally, she returned and claimed the drawer was short. Therefore, there was no way that I had been shortchanged. (Convenient, no? Especially since I couldn’t possibly independently verify)
I wasn’t budging. I was asking for managers, her name and corporate phone numbers. Turns out she was the assistant manager of that store (or so she said). We were at an impasse. She gave me a phone number for some corporate complaint line and I left.
The moral of the story: Sure, it was only ten dollars. That’s not the point. The way in which this was handled was worse than piss poor. She either miscounted, misplaced or stuffed my $ 10 in her pocket. I don’t know, but either way I certainly wasn’t pulling any Great Wawa Ten Dollar Swindle.
I’ve boycotted this Wawa ever since.
You should be ashamed of yourself lady, wherever you are.

I love this Wawa. It’s my Wawa, and I’ve been going there since it opened way back when. My dad practically lives here because he’s addicted to the coffee. But the staff is friendly — you get to know them by name after a while. And the food is great. Wawa is the best.
