The Woodland Valley campsite is amazing — gorgeous woodsy setting and just a 5-minute drive from the adorable town of Phoenicia. The staff at this campground were super nice, helpful, and understanding even when we had to check-in past their 9pm limit. The other camping groups were friendly — we even heard about a great waterfall hike from a couple a few sites over. The site is also at the start of a bunch of major trailheads for hikes into the Catskill mountains that are very popular. Clean bathrooms and hot showers. Trash/recycling building with a sink to wash dishes. Water spiget nearby. Grills/fire pits on every campsite. It was perfect. We were very glad that the campsite is organized and considerate enough to have rules and ask people to respect them. The poor reviews below did not seem to appreciate that, but I think it is important for a reliable and positive experience for everyone.(Background: We are a couple in our mid-20s from out of town but the campground also seemed popular among families and locals.) Great experience, thanks a lot!

Just spent a weekend at Woodland Valley. Site 70(pics included) is 3 campsites away from the Caretaker’s cottage, but definitely far enough away. The site is semi private. It’s a little off from the road(most of the campsites are right on the road). Site 71 is very close to 70 but there is a little bit of trees in between them. There is a path that leads from 71 and 70 down to the bathroom, which is very convenient. The bathrooms were always clean and we’ll maintained. The campground itself is nice but most of the sites are close to each other. If you are looking for a «wilderness» campsite, this will not be it. The campsite is surrounded by mountains and there are two main trails for hiking. The trails are advanced, although a few of them are marked easier. Research the trails if that is something you are interested in doing. There is also a creek that runs along one side of the campsite. We could hear the water at night from our site. The campsite is pet and family friendly, so there were a lot of both. Site 70 is good if you want some privacy. When we walked around, not many other sites offered the same privacy as ours did. Overall, great camping experience for semi experienced campers!

Great campground for hiking lovers! Beautiful mountains, lots to do nearby, friendly rangers, clean bathrooms! You’ll need to get used to camping rt next door(and across) from someone including mosquitoes and tons of bugs trying to fly into your car and tent at all times. Also after hours noise can be a problem. We’re easygoing though and still had a blast!

This is probably 4th or 5th time camping(first time here though) and I have to say that the grounds are well kept, the showers and bathrooms were clean(think college dorm style bathrooms) and there was a separate outdoor sink area to wash your utensils. Each camp site has a grill/campfire and a picnic table. Now onto what I didn’t like. So so many rules! We arrived at 10:30pm and immediately the DEC came by and told us that quiet hours start from 9:30pm. Seriously? We weren’t even that loud at all. A few of our friends arrived at 12:30−1am and they were told that they couldn’t set up their tents past quiet hours. I understand that maybe the light would irritate others but you aren’t shining lights on other people’s tents. Needless to say, we set it up anyway. Where were they going to sleep? We came for camping — not to sleep on our cars. The next morning, we found out through a note and verbally warned by DEC that only 2 tents were allowed per site even though you had plenty of room for more — in fact we could fit 5 tents in 1 site. I’ve never heard of this ever before. Whatever. We moved the tents over to our other sites we booked. This place would have received a higher review but I knocked off 2 stars because of the restrictions. I had a good time with my friends here and the bathrooms are cleaner than the other camp sites I’ve been to, but the rules really killed it. Tip: We had sites 30, 31, and 32(FYI there is a stream running behind sites 31 and 32 so if you can’t sleep with that noise, don’t book those sites).

This was my first time camping, so I really have nothing to compare this to, however, I don’t know if this is a place I want to come back to. If you’re coming with one or two other people and just want to enjoy nature and go camping, this is the place. If you’re coming with a group of friends who are looking to have an awesome time, find another place. There were a total of 11 of us and while we did have an awesome time, there are just so many rules. Our group came all at different times and none of us knew that you couldn’t come in after 9PM and you couldn’t set up your tent either. We arrived at 1AM and were told that they were being nice and letting us in, but we couldn’t set up our tent. Why? No idea… Of course, we set it up because we came to camp and the 4 of us couldn’t fit in the car to sleep. The next day, we go hiking and come back to a note saying that we couldn’t have more than 2 tents per campsite, even though we purchased 3 sites and all stayed in one. Why? No idea… The last straw came when we were grilling that night and just all hanging out and were told to be quiet as it was quiet time… we’re a group of 11, it’s bound to get loud and seriously, we’re in the woods! This place has a ton of rules and they will give you a hard time. All the campsites are very close to each other. The bathrooms/showers were surprisingly clean, but with all the restrictions, we definitely didn’t have as much fun as we could have. I would come back here if it was just a small group of 4, but other then that, I’ll pass.

The camp site was a bit pricy for what they offered. This camp site is one of the ones that you drive your car into and they only had a shower and bathroom. In addition, you’re only allowed to have 2 tents per camp site even when you have multiple camp sites. I’ve been to other types of drive in camp sites that have pools and mini golf for cheaper and they don’t limit the number of tents you have. The good thing is that this place is near the town tinker which is a really fun tubing place and it has an amazingly fun(and hard) hiking trail.

This was my first time at this place and it wasn’t the greatest. Although I don’t camp often this place was pretty congested and I felt like each campsite was on top of each other. They do have running water with showers and sinks. Also showers are set one temperature and it’s set at HOT. Staff were not that polite and were very controlling. Would not come back here.
