this place kindaaaa sucks. it is pretty low on my list of takeout chinese places and lemme tell you, ive been to alot. its just very mediocre. i usually get the general tsos which is nothing special. got the kung pao chicken with it last time and thats okay too. only go if youre really hungry or something. the lo mein has a certain smell and texture to it that isnt the greatest. my biggest complaint is actually because of my friend. she can only eat halal, so no meat for her besides sea food. she got the shrimp dumplings as well as shrimp pad thai the other day. both disgusting. she told me the dumplings had no flavor and were an awful texture. i tried the shrimp pad thai and it was awful. just not good at all. she asked for only shrimp since she cant eat regular meat and they put chicken in it! she ended up going back in to ask for them to make a new one with just the shrimp and the asian chef was extremely annoyed and just did not understand her request. they ended up giving her a new vegetarian one. what the heck? ive had bad service there multiple times as well, the cashiers just dont speak english and dont understand any of your questions when youre trying to mix and match combo options, which makes everyone frustrated. would not recommend if trying to get chinese food!

A waste of space. Taking up a spot where actual food COULD be sold. Their pad Thai tastes like nothing.

Hoja’s Chinese food is authentic and good. I give you that. But today it really drove me mad. I ordered online around 5pm and indicated in the order that I will pick it up at 6:30pm. I got there like 6:40pm and waited in the line for another 10min. Finally I got the chance to talk to the cashier and he told me my order was not ready. I asked why. He simply replied that he forgot to notice the time requirement in the order. What the!!! Then I had to wait for another 15min or so for my order to be ready. I mean, the reason I order online is that I don’t want to waste too much time for the food. But you failed to meet my time requirement and I did not even get an apology. Hoja, you CANNOT just waste your customer’s time like that. This is just not how it works!

Extremely surprised at the low reviews. The place is very hip and the food is very authentically Asian — it’s just like home! The noodle soups are great. The bubble tea could be a little sweeter, but other than that, no complaints.

I don’t get the negative reviews here at all. The food is very outstanding [IFYOUKNOWWHATTOORDER! ] the chef is definitely a professional authentic Chinese cook because I know what AUTHENTIC Chinese food taste like. This is probably one of the best in NJ. If you want good thai, Japanese or Korean, this is probably not the place for you. Basically the dishes they posted on the glass are their specials which mean they are really good. Try them out rather than order your regular general tso chicken ! If I have to pick on anything, it’s the price.

I bought the pad thai here and it was awful. Tasted like Chinese take out pretty much. The bubble tea was alright, nothing fancy.

The kimchi fried rice was really salty. I never had to struggle finishing fried rice. Its hard to screw up. Service was good and I like their smoothies. However other people I talked to wasn’t a huge fan of the food either. The amount they give you is good value though.

Debated whether or not to post this review since I didn’t try the food but figured I would for the serious boba drinkers like me. Left an extra star in case the food was good. Otherwise I would rank this place 1-star. Walking in you are immediately greeted with an alarming sewage odor that made me want to gag and forced me to wait for my boba outside. Inside was not ventilated on a hot day with no AC turned on. The staff was nice but the boba was really bad. I watched as the woman pour artificial powder into water, mixed and basically called it a day. There is no tea in their boba tea. The tapioca pearls were undercooked, small and overly starchy because they were not prepared properly. The whole experience was very unappetizing. We threw out our boba midway through the drinks. I highly doubt we will ever come back to try the food.

The worst dining experience I have ever had in this terrible restaurant. The sanitary condition is horrible! You might eat hairs, cigarette ends and other bullshits in the dishes. Don’t be surprised!

Unprofessional Overpriced but I love the food so I keep on going & paying . They don’t deliver after 5 Sometimes they don’t deliver at all ! You can’t place orders over the phone. Online ordering requires creating an account & registering your debit card but then they won’t deliver if you request for it . Such a joke everytime I go here I ask myself WHY ?! But I keep going back so I’ll give them that much

The food is not fresh although the test is not bad compared to other Chinese restaurant. I doubt their way of cost control. I ate there twice this week which make me to see a doctor.

I used to live on Livingston campus. Back to that time, although Hoja is continuously horrible, it at least had some good dishes like shrimp fried rice, beef and broccoli. But now it totally messed up. I have been to Hoja several times this semester and tries some different dishes. Unfortunately, they are all not as good as usual.

They serve hot bubble tea in the same cup you would get cold bubble tea in so it’s way too hot to carry around and it also leaks. Doesn’t really make sense. Food is also subpar. Update: Got cold bubble tea one time and it was lukewarm but not as hot as their hot bubble tea. Since I asked for cold, I asked a worker if they could do anything about it or make another but they responded that it wouldn’t make any sense. In the end they just added ice but that waters it down. Not sure why it was warm in the first place.

When I heard that an asian fusion restaurant was coming to Livingston Campus, I got very excited because it’s much easier to get Asian food here then to go to College Ave since most of my classes were on Livingston Campus. But seriously, this is one major disappointment. When I heard it was«asian fusion» I thought it would be more fancy like PF changs, but it’s more like asian take out restaurant. Maybe what they meant about«fusion» is that they have Chinese, Japanese(basically just sushi), thai, and korean. Honestly, it’s very hard to make all the food good when they don’t specialize in one type of food. I’ve been here twice. The first time, I got a noodle soup with wontons, and it was meh. The soup had no flavors, and the soup is the main part of the noodle soup. The wontons were okay, but nothing too special. My friend got these fried mantou with condensed milk! and they were delicious, but is it possible to mess that up? The mantou and condensed milk are straight from the package. Recently, I went there again, because there are not many good food on livingston that’s walking distance besides the dining hall, but I don’t have a meal plan. Once again, I came and wanted to order the mantous, but apparently, they don’t have it anymore. Thus, I settled for an order of fried pork dumplings($ 5 for 6 dumplings). They looked burned, and I was about to not take it… but my class was starting soon. I ate it and it wasn’t that bad! It was crispy, and the dough was very soft and thin. The service was okay. It’s self serve and you put the dishes in a tray(similar to what they do in Panera Bread). The tables were dirty and had crumbs or remnants of sauces.

Great service, the girl who took my order was super sweet and apologetic. We ordered vegetable fried rice and general tso’s(hubby’s). Place was empty on a Friday night, but I imagine it gets packed during the school year. I had no idea this little village existed on the Rutgers campus. It feels so far away from campus, but the new business school is there, dorms, places to eat, even a cinema! Hoja seems like a legit place out of Chinatown or K-town. I wouldn’t consider is fusion, but the food was good and didn’t hurt my tummy too badly. They have bubble tea which I’ll try next time; I can’t cheat on I’s Café.(the best) Large portions, super cheap, and clean restaurant. I think it would be a great place for students, commuters, or even locals like us.

Huge disappointment for me. I was excited for months that a supposedly«Asian fusion» restaurant was opening on Livingston Campus. Since I work on this campus, I am constantly in search for better lunch options. FAIL. Would I come back? Maybe, because like I said, I have minimal options during work. Sometimes I’ll even go to Dunkin Donuts for convenience and I really don’t like DD. Just too lazy to walk to Starbucks at times. Would I recommend it to anyone? Never. Where do you get off calling this place«Asian fusion?» Because of the attempted Americanized Chinese and Japanese foods you offer? That is not the meaning of Fusion food. The Chinese food is of lesser quality than most Chinese takeout restaurants, with sesame chicken and general tso’s that is too hard and too much batter. They have some basic rolls pre-made in the refrigerated section– similar to those you can pick up at the grocery store. The bubble tea is subpar– this is me being nice. If you look around, everyone in sight that is asian is ordering the beef noodle soup. That’s your best bet. Other than that, I’d say you’d have a better chance finding Asian fusion food at Henry’s Diner.

So i live about a 2 minutes walk away from here, and i haven’t tried this place today. So i decided that it was time for something new for lunch. I came in with one of my suite mates, and the place was pretty dead for 1pm on a weekend. The places were there would normally be food were empty. The menus are all up on large TV’s and they have a decent selection of thing. I ordered the General Tso’s Chicken. Which came out shortly after. For the food, the portion size was a little smaller then i expected, for not getting a lunch special. There was maybe 6 peices of chicken on the plate. They were decent sized for the most part but i expected more. As far as the taste goes, the texture of the chicken was perfect. It was crispy and fresh, coming back to taste, it was ok nothing special and i wouldnt call this iconic General Tso’s. The other 65% of my plate was rice, which was a let down. The rice tasted dry, as if it was left out or reheated from yesterday, both possibilities. I was rather underwhelmed by this aspect. The people behind the counter were pretty friendly and the girl who rang me up was more chipper then i would expect anyone working in food service. I think i might try this place again during the week and see if there is any change in the food.
