Lapidary Arts

I took my grandmother’s ring to Lapidary Arts for sizing. The staff were funny, friendly and took their time — even though it was nearing closing time. They quoted me a very fair price, and showed me where previous repairs had been poorly done. (I also liked that they didn’t trash the jeweler who had done the bad repairs — just pointed out the problem.)
They do their repairs in-​house, so I have confidence that the stones I left at the store are the same ones that will come back with the ring.
Even though this is obviously a high-​end store, they also do watch batteries and they re-​string pearls.
It’s wonderful to find a jeweler that «does it all» at reasonable prices. I feel like I’ve found a jeweler for life.

After years of wearing a simple band as my wedding ring, this year my husband really wanted me to have a ring to celebrate our time together. We’d looked from time to time over the years and researched online for inspiration but I never found anything that seemed right for me. So this year I designed something myself and we looked for a custom ring designer to make the ring. A big ‘thank you’ to the other reviewers for helping us find Lapidary Arts. They are true artists and craftsman.
The other ‘custom jewelry’ makers we visited just order variations on settings from catalogs — but Lapidary Arts is a true custom jewelry maker. Roger had a consult with us after he and Rick reviewed my design over email. The consult covered every detail… Including that I wanted to use the platinum from my existing wedding band (for sentiment) in my new ring. Roger walked us through the best setting option, bezel in my case, to work with my design. My husband and I were able to select the specific marquise diamonds and the semi-​precious colored gem stone I wanted for the main solitaire — from several Roger had for us to consider.
In 7 weeks I had a ring on my finger, a ring that is modern but with a slight vintage botanical feel. The quality is so far beyond what you find in typical even high-​end jewelry stores that it makes their stuff look like toys. The quality, artistry and craftsmanship of Lapidary Arts is undeniable. I’m so pleased we found them.

This is the best jewelry store I have ever been to. Rick is a brilliant and creative designer with an amazing eye for detail. He is also an avid mineralogist – the man collects stones because he LOVES them and his knowledge is vast. When you visit his shop, you will encounter some of the most striking natural stones you have ever seen – and that’s just what is in his cases on any given day. If you’re looking for something even more special, chances are he has it in the back and will be ready to work on a special design for you (and it) at any given moment. Rick’s labor is clearly infused with the love of his craft. Not to wax too poetic here, but after I spoke with Rick a few times, I was strongly reminded of something I once read about Michelangelo – when he was sculpting, he didn’t force his blocks of stone to fit a design he had already imagined. Instead, he simply allowed the stone to show him how to expose the figure already hidden within it. Rick strikes me as following a very similar creative process with his lapidary creations… and each one is stunning.

I highly recommend this establishment. I wanted a custom designed wedding ring so I went to several establishments but was not happy with any of them until finding Lapidary Arts and speaking with Rick. He sat with me for hours poring over design books and tweaking the design until I got exactly what I wanted. And the price was far better than I expected. We also bought two wedding rings for my husband there. (His first one was stolen and we had to replace it).
