How in the world Shannon H could give this place three stars and want to give them 2 ½ stars is ludicrous. This is the best restaurant in Florida. I love Buddy Freddy’s. Especially their fried catfish and strawberry shortcake.

Steer clear if you’re trying to eat healthy! My husband and sons chose this place for lunch today. Selection could be bigger, peach cobbler was yummy. Sausage and fried catfish were good, grilled chicken was dry.

I probably would have given 2 ½ stars, if we could give half stars!(hint) I am only in Plant City when Emilio M. and I go to visit his family. As I have noticed, not a lot of attractions, other than the Strawberry Festival. Anyway, we were in the area on Christmas attending church with his family. I was informed we would be eating at Buddy Freddy’s afterward. I had never heard of the place, so did not know what to expect. I guess it was nice that they were open on Christmas, but I felt bad for the employees. Upon arriving it struck me as a typical southern buffet restaurant. The outside almost looks like a house and has that down-home feel. I could tell this was usually a happening place for families and large groups, particularly after church. We had 8 people in our group and many other groups, and I was worried there would be a long wait, but it was only 15 – 20 minutes. The inside was nothing special, again just reminding me of a typical buffet place, but there is nothing wrong with that. I read other reviews saying there are menus available, but I never saw one because his family chooses the buffet. As for the food, it was OK. I had fried chicken(super greasy), mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, baked chicken, and ham(fatty). I obviously am not too familiar buffets, because I completely missed that there was different food on each side of the lines. Emilio really enjoyed the fried cod and the peach cobbler. Emilio’s parents kindly paid for the meal, so I am not sure of the exact price, but I believe it to be between 11 – 13 dollars. Our server was quick with refills and clearing our empty plates. All-in-all, not a bad place, but not a great one either.

This place rocks! Good old fashioned comfort food. The staff was super, kept your drinks full and the empty plates taken away. The fried chicken was great. All kinds of food to choose from. You better bring an appetite, you will need it. Reasonable price too.

Af’er attendin’ a early mo’nin’ meetin’ in Bradenton an’ needin’ t’drive back acrost th’ state wif li’l time fo’ lunch ah took th’ Plant City exit hopin’ sumpin decent was closely, It was but a few blocks into th’ city thet ah discovahed this hyar old style southern buffet wif a name as outrageous as th’ dishes offer in a country settin’. Th’ place was simple but had th’ look of yessuhteryear jest like mah gran’Mammys. Yessuh it warn’t much diffrunt thet whut I’ve ett up mah intire life growin’ up in Louisiana. Th’ grub was laid out much like yo’ might find it a Sunday wif th’ fambly all seated in their places waitin’ fo’ th’ grace t’be completed so yo’ c’d dig in. Even though it’s all sarved up buffet style don’t mean yo’ hafta try an’ ett it all, ah usually try an’ pick out mah favo’ite o’ at least a few thet ah remember eatin’ as a kid, cuss it all t’ tarnation. This hyar is th’ real deal southern fried possum, mashed patootees, greens, co’nbread, thet finger lickin’ brown gravy o’ it all seems so indless. Don’t cornfuse Buddy Freddy’s wif them majo’ bran’ scattered aroun’ th’ country cuz blows all of them away this hyar grub is real home cookin’, so doesn’t fo’git t’grab a piece of pie o’ carrot cake an’ some fine old sweet a six pack to warsh it all down. Now t’be puffickly honess ah’s not pow’ful th’ buffet type of guy an’ this hyar pow’ful surprised me as fine as th’ two assosheeates ah was travelin’ wif. They pow’ful seemed t’enjoy it about as much as ah enjoyed watchin’ them shovel it down. ah pow’ful doesn’t reckon ah c’d does this offen especially fo’ lunch it’s a li’l heavy but hell ev’ry once in awhile don’t hurt so eff’n yer lookin’ fo’ a real treat stop in an’ give them a try. ah’s kinda glad it’s far away so ah doesn’t git tempped t’git this hyar too offen but fo’ a change of pace o’ a treat sometimes yo’ jest hafta hoof it fo’ it. ah can in fine faif recommend it in moderashun of course ah’s sho’nuff at some point I’ll be back.

Not bad for the money. Good food. Not a huge selection. Ok service. Kind of run down but ok. Lousy country music. I will continue to eat here as long as it doesn’t go down hill.

Love this place! The atmosphere is very nice and friendly — feel like home. Food is good with many choices. Fried fish is absolutely delicious that I had to stop myself eating it so I can try other stuffs. Cherry pie is another favorite of mine, if you don’t want too much fat, then put strawberry sauce on pie instead of ice cream. Definitely come back !!!

This place is nowhere near what it use to be. I remember eating here as a child and absolutely loving it. When my family took a trip to FL, we met up with my sister, her wife and my nephews and we all made a point to stop by Buddy Freddys mainly because I wanted to see if it tasted the same as before. It does not. The chicken tastes similar and the red velvet cake tastes similar but the rest is just awful. The chicken was greasy, the cake had a lot less icing than I remember and the food has gone downhill tremendously. The broiled fish was gummy and the greens were tasteless. I was ultimately sad because we spent $ 40 to supposedly take a trip back to my childhood but it was nothing like I remember. I also realized that some of the staff are a bit nosey and seem a little rude. I can look over the prying but the staff staring at my family because we arent the typical american family was a bit much. I won’t waste my time or money on this restaurant again the next time I am in FL.

Wife and I like the food here. It’s been a while since we had southern comfort food. We enjoyed it. There was a lot to choose from and very fresh. Looking forward to going back soon.

ate lunch there today. around noticed 1:30 pm. I saw the wait staff bussing tables. they put the fingers in dirty glasses that have dirty silverware in them. also, a waiter that had put his thumb on a dirty plate then wiped it on his pants. I never ever going back. I don’t want to get sick.

It’s like eating at my Grandma’s kitchen. Fresh veggies, country style fried chicken & cherry cobbler that might be the best I’ve had.

Have heard so much about this place but have never eaten here. Well I’ll give it an honest review from start to finish. Didn’t start out perfect because we had to wipe the seat off before sitting down. Our waitress said her name is Sunshine upon my prompting her. So far no explanation so I believe this must be a buffet style only but I’ll ask nonetheless. One of the waitresses said they have menu’s just that they never offer them because everyone does the buffet. Plenty of selection to choose from my first plate is fried pork chop, ham, some kind of carrerole and chicken fried steak. Next plate I had a fried drumstick, fried(greasy) hash brown patty, grits and corned beef hash. Finished everything thing off with a piece of strawberry shortcake… should have started with this. Now the moment we have all been waiting for… The cost, since I didn’t have a menu I couldn’t predict the cost. Drumroll please ok not too bad 20.64 for 2 of us. Worth the experience but not what I was expecting every thing was average or below average.

Stopped here on the way from Orlando to Tampa — my lucky day. The buffet is either $ 11 or $ 13(depending if you want water or tea/soda). Items are typical southern fare and all very good. The baked chicken, and fried chicken, were both excellent. Vegetables are delicious and the desserts also look good — mostly locals here.

This is a great southern style buffet conveniently located just of the highway. For $ 15 per person you get unlimited meatloaf, fried chicken, smoked sausage, fish fry, ribs, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, and the list goes on and on. Everything was delicious. The desserts are plentiful but I tried the stawberry shortcake and vanilla ice cream which was so tasty. They serve Stewart’s sodas which I feel are some of the best around. I loved it, the girls loved it. We’ll be back.

Food is great with plenty of food choices to choose from on the food bar. This restaurant does get busy on the weekends especially around church getting out time. My family has been to this Buddy Freddy’s location before the food has always been good! They do sale sweets by the cashier area if your craving for something sweet after you eat. This is a medium to large building so plenty of seating during the morning/lunch and dinner time rush.

Stopped in on a whim while traveling after our first choice was closed. REALLY glad things worked out that way! We didn’t know that it was a buffet, but they had quite the spread. Great southern home cooking at a great price. Everything was good and tasty, even the array of desserts. Service was top notch and on the ball. Next time I’m traveling through the area and I’m hungry, I’m stopping back in.

We were lost in Plant City and decided to stop here for lunch. I am so glad we chose this over the Outback and the Sonny’s. The waitress was so sweet and friendly. The fried chicken and the fried catfish were, quite honestly, the best we’d ever tasted. Somehow they stayed light and crispy despite being on the buffet for who knows how long. Sides were great: bacon mashed potatoes — need I say more? Super props to them for having the pepper vinegar at the tables. I didn’t try dessert because I was full of savory food. The waitress chided me for not having strawberry shortcake in Plant City but forgave me when I told her I had a half flat of strawberries in the car. I’m not sure if I’ll have room for dinner tonight. And all that goodness for $ 12/pp including soda and tax.
