Love love love this place, just had the Walnut Honey Shrimp and all I can say is oh my God was it delicious it was almost like a desert. Plus it’s a pleasure coming here and talking with the Owner Ling. Every time I come to Kansas City I come straight here.

The first thing I noticed when we walked in at 8pm on a Friday was the fact there were no customers… not a good sign. We waited in the lobby area for several minutes without being greeted. Finally, we decided to grab our own menus and seat ourselves. It took a while to find a table that wasn’t filthy. Eventually, we went to the bar to order, since no one served us. The bar wasn’t much cleaner as bugs were flying in from the drive through window, conveniently located next to the restaurant’s supply of raw fish. We tried to place an order for three sushi rolls. Unfortunately, the staff informed us they were out of rice and could not make sushi. What kind of Asian restaurant runs out of rice? Overall, this place was filthy, the service was nonexistent, and the food… well, we never even got a chance to try it due to the great Friday night rice shortage of 2015. Instead, I would recommend Kato Sushi down on Barry Road.

This place is well priced for the sushi and everything taste so fresh. I never have that bloated feeling after eating. Which is great for Asian food!

Good food, even better service. We’d stop here again. The waitress brought extra egg drop soup and sushi for the kids.

Great food, great atmosphere and great service. We ordered: Mongolian beef — uncommonly delicious! Shrimp Lo Mein — this is mediocre. the reason why we came here was bcos I saw Unilocal picture showing lo mein using the linguine pasta noodles instead of the typical lo mein noodle. I’ve ways loved lo mein that used the linguine pasta noodles so I was dissapointed to get otherwise. Although, the rest of the food makes up for it. Shrimp & Vegetables — Looks delicious and fresh and taste delicious and fresh. Plenty of large shrimp. egg drop soup — another uncommonly delicious menu item. taste so perfect you dont need to dunk more salt. they also served a very freshly tasting crunchy noodles with the soup. loved it! Altho I still wonder why the soup gets watery after 10 minutes being served. this happens everywhere in all of chinese restaurant. oh well. crab rangoon — pretty good. the cheese inside is good, altho I wished the the wonton noodles they use to wrap the cheese is not so thick. Overall great experience, will definitely come again.

Dined here many times. Usually during off hours. Food has always been flavorful and the portions fair for the price. The service has never been bad, and thankfully not overly attentive, as too many are. Once I ordered an item that they didn’t have ingredients for, so instead of telling me it wasn’t available, I was advised that someone ran across to the market to get what was needed. That was kind of unusual, but I found it nice that they would go to the trouble to do so.

I went there to get take out, my husband said his sushi was fine, however we got pork fried rice, chicken fried rice, lo mein, teriyaki chicken, among other items and they were all bland and flavorless. It was our first time there since Heiwa left and was also our last! Heiwa was so good and this place is not worth going back for a second time, threw away the leftovers! Will go to China Wok for Chinese food from now on!

Best Asian food around! The place is rarely busy, which is an utter shame. The sushi is fantastic, volcano roll is my favorite. My family appreciates the quality of each dish which is prepared when you order. We’ve never had better Kung pao. The family who runs the place are lovely and even box up your leftovers for you. Nowhere else in town does that.

Unexpected surprise for a strip mall. Very sweet family who takes pride in what they cook and at very affordable pricing. Went out of their way to accommodating to my wheat allergy. Known for theor egg drop soup.

(Let me begin by saying this review is not about the food at this establishment, but, rather the service and treatment I received as a patron.) Because my wife, 3 yr old daughter and I, were ignored for almost 15 minutes, we never had the opportunity to try the food,. I was actually excited to try this place but we arrived around 730 at night and, there was one huge dinner party at a center table and all four people I saw that were working there were devoted to them and nothing else. We walked in and everyone looked at us and watched us sit down at a booth, no sign saying wait to be seated. We are large people, hard to miss, and I know all employees saw us come in and sit down, but they never approached us or acknowledged us in any way. And note there were still a couple of hrs left before they were to close. After 15 minutes we left in frustration and went to Mexico Lindo which is at the other end of the strip mall. They made the experience better. Great food and service. I would recommend them to friends, but, sadly not New Shanghai. Maybe, someday if they stick around I will give them another chance. P. S. the food smelled really good, it is a real shame the service was not up to par.

Decided to visit on a Saturday night. We walked in and literally woke up a young man who was sleeping at one of the tables who ended up being our server. I grabbed menus for myself and we sat down. We placed our order and two of the items came out incorrectly. The spicy seafood ramen we ordered ended up being bland not spicy udon noodles instead of the spicy ramen we ordered. We also ordered fried rice rather than steamed rice on one of our entrees that we did not get. The only highlight of the meal was the volcano roll which was decent at best. The service issues continued as we were never checked on to see if our food was ok or needed anything after we got our food. None of the empty dishes were cleaned up until after we left. The food mistakes combined with the overall lack of service made us wish we had spent out $ 50 elsewhere. Lesson learned. Good thing there are two other Asian restaurants in town.

This is our favorite place to eat Asian food. The food is always very good. Great portion and very well priced. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The service is outstanding there is no other Asian restaurant in the area that would even compare… they are the best! Thanks David and Chenny for the great food and always the best service.

Although it’s a rather Americanized version of Chinese it is still delicious. much better than anything else we’ve come across in Missouri so far. The service was fantastic, prices very fair, and big portions(we did lunch combos, less than $ 6 each with plenty of leftovers). Highly recommend if you’re in the area!

I’ve been loyal to China Wok for a few years now, but considering our dining options in Platte City can be counted on one hand, we decided to check out New Shanghai when we saw it was open. The restaurant décor and layout looks exactly the same as Heiwa did, but the menu has been revamped a bit. We loved our experience here. The wait staff seems to be all family and they were so polite and welcoming with recommendations which we really appreciated. We first ordered the Shanghai-style mini-wonton soup(this is not on the carry-out menu, but it is on the restaurant menu). LOVED it. It is your typical won-ton soup, but the filling of the won-tons is SO good. The spices of the meat are spot on and they were not stingy with the number of dumplings. We also ordered the Shanghai-style egg rolls(these are different than the other eggrolls that they offer). We really enjoyed the veggies in these as well and they even served them with a brown vinegar that I hadn’t paired with eggrolls before. I really really liked it and we even got an additional 2 :) For my meal, I ordered the General Tso Tofu. It was very good, but I will admit it wasn’t my favorite. We have since ordered carry-out and I ordered the General Tso chicken and this I really really enjoyed. Their sauce is wonderful, the tofu just didn’t pick up enough of the flavors(which is kind of characteristic of tofu). The husband ordered the Kung Pow Pork and we both really liked his. On our 2nd trip, we ordered carry out and got the seafood udon. Yum. They did a great job with the soup(its a tad spicy) and it was a lot of seafood, veggies and noodles. We also had the crab rangoon and was really happy with the amount of filling in them. Each time we have dined here they have also given us a small piece of sweet cake on the side. Fantastic service, great quality food and a good selection. I haven’t tried the sushi yet, but we will be ordering a lot more from here!
