Lunch today at 1:30 pm, lemon chicken, sweet and sour prawns, Mongolian beef, chicken fried rice, won tons. All of the food was old, over cooked, cooked over and over, tasteless and pricey. Unedible

We have been eating at the restaurant for years and the food has always been consistant ayt 4 stars. Tonight we ordered hot & sour soup, mongolian beef, kung pao shrimp and kung pao trio(shrimp, beef, and scallops)… this ranks as one of the worst chinese meals I have ever had… the soup was basically water with corn starch… the trio was inedible as the scallops were basically rotten… I going to file a complaint with the alameda county health dept as there is something very wrong with this place…$ 70 worth of food and we had to throw it way Do youself and your body a favor… go somewhere else

I dropped by to pick up some take out food before a weekly meeting. To keep it simple, I got an order of Potstickers and Seafood Chow Fun. Service was prompt, I was the only customer at 4:45 on a Thursday afternoon. I was told 10 minute and the food was ready in 7. In an attempt to keep the Potstickers from getting soggy, I opened the flaps of the box as soon as I got to my car. It’s about a 10 minute drive from the restaurant to where I was going. Unfortunately, the Potstickers were already soggy. They seemed to have begun life fairly thick skinned. Therefore what I ate was thick and soggy and not very flavorful. The dipping sauce they provided saved the day but barely. The Chow Fun was a soggy mess of clumpy noodles mixed in with sliced onions, green onions, bean sprouts, slivers of carrots and an assortment of squid, fish and shrimp. For the price, the overall quality of the food was underwhelming. Maybe I ordered the wrong things. Maybe I went on an off day. Either way, I won’t be back.

This is my second time here and last time. I was hoping the first was a fluke. I had dinner and the sesame chicken was sooooo salty and so terrible we sent it back. Not to mention very over priced. The waitress was not happy about this! She was very short and rude and snatches the chicken off the table and came back with a «fresh plate». It was just as salty and just as terrible. I come back about a month later and I came in for a quick lunch. The lunch menu is just as over priced. I got the garlic chicken. I kept smelling my plate because it had a peculiar wet sock smell to it. Half rice and half chow mien is 2 bucks more! Ok… For what your inconvenience? Basically I’ll be searching for another Chinese spot. Not impressed here or satisfied. Oh and when you tell the waitress thank you she just scowls at you and walks away. You’ll know who I mean if you go here.

This has become my go to spot for takeout. Other places are okay, but they seem to get the job done with a picky 6 year hold and wife.

I have been going to this restaurant for the last two years, and enjoyed some of their veggie dishes. The dishes I always felt uneasy about were their meat dishes, especially chicken dishes. Sometimes they were good, and other times, the chicken used to emit odd smell. But, last night, I ordered chicken fried rice for takeaway. It smelled like DEADRAT! Yes, it smelled nasty. Took a couple of bites, and decided not to take any chances, and threw it away. I need to investigate further, but I suspect, most of the meat here is from China. They probably get the cheapest and expired meat, which is definitely from China or Vietnam. Nothing bad will happen to you because the meat has enough ammonia and nitrates to protect you in the short term. Conclusion: Visit this place, fully knowing the meat could be from dead rats or cats. Btw, the owners are nice people, though a bit ignorant about food standards in a developed country.

Weak on the napkins — suggest BYON! Service great — if you don’t care for smiles. Encouraged that the luncheon soup came about 10 seconds after we sat down. Food was above average and suggest the chow mein vs. rice. Also, no dog meat jokes… You’ve been warned. Update — Napkins just arrived! 4 Stars!

We were out of town and was looking for a place to grab lunch really quick so ended up here. The food here tasted pretty good but way too pricey, especially when the portions weren’t that large. Also, we ordered like at least 6 dishes but the rice was not free. We had to buy a bowl of rice for each individual which was a bit annoying to me considering that the dishes were already expensive and they require rice with them. I doubt I’ll be in this area again, but if I was, I wouldn’t be coming back here.

Absolutely my favorite Chinese food. My favorite is the crab rangoons and the orange chicken. Have yet to find a place that compares to them. They are fantastic!!! I like the orange chicken extra crispy and I ask for that and it always turns out great. Chowmein is also pretty yummy! Their prices are on the higher end but the food is worth it. Their Shirley temples are also to die for!!!

Very good. Got the ex-boyfriend over for movie night and wanted to try a new spot vs our usual; what a treat! Soup was excellent and the Mongolian beef very tender. Great company and great food; can’t ask for a better night.

My family has lived in Pleasanton for the past seven years and we are NOT the kind of family that like to try new things. My family notoriously has trust issues with most Asian restaurants and it is an ABSOLUTE miracle if I can convince them to try any NEW restaurant — especially a Chinese restaurant. My parents are both from Taiwan, have been in the United States for 15+ years, and have very extreme, bizarre, almost irrational taste in Chinese food. However, due to the good reviews for Gold Chopsticks, I convinced, pleaded, begged them to try — just this once — something new. We ordered several dishes(all reasonably priced and good sized portions). But the food… honestly…was…mehhhh. My parents were not impressed to say the least. I had to keep on making«mmmm» sounds to try to sway their opinions(after all, I CHOSE the restaurant so inevitably, the outcome of this meal lied on ME). However, the service was REALLYGOOD. The owner/wait staff was incredibly attentive, and kept making recommendations, asking us to come back, etc. I know that *could* be seen as annoying/trying too hard to get business/etc but COMEON. In Pleasanton, I have found it to be rare to receive such care. ANDPLUS it helped divert my parents from focusing on the food because they had to keep answering their questions, FOURSTARS just for that.

I took a legion of people here for a Sunday evening family-style service of Chinese food. The piles of hot plates were bountiful, the service was prompt and food was just fine. Years ago I made this place my lunch haunt… but somewhere along the way they lost some of their mojo. The food is still fine it just doesn’t move me like it used to. I’ll still come here on occasion and I highly recommend Gold Chopsticks for large groups!

We tried this place based on the Unilocal reviews and quite frankly it wasn’t worth it. Service wasn’t all that friendly, food was bland, and the total bill was absurd. We just wanted some typical Americanized Chinese food and ordered the Orange Chicken and Hunan Beef(they tasted almost exactly the same). At first, the entrée prices looked quite reasonable. And I would have given them 2 stars based on bland food except they failed to mention: Entrees do not come with rice(each LITTLE bowl was $ 1.95 extra — we ordered 3 for 2 people to share 2 entrees and no one said a thing other than«Want some rice?») Each 16 oz fountain soda is $ 2.50 which is reasonable(EACH refill is also $ 2.50) — During the meal we said«Hey, can I get another soda?» — They brought it but didn’t mention the cost. When we finally got the check and asked about all of the add ons, the lady told us about the extra rice and soda charges(which total cost more than an entrée). When I asked why she didn’t tell us about the extra cost earlier she said«well, you asked for ANOTHER soda. If you had asked for a REFILL I would have told you.» and then she just laughed. There’s no way I’d go back to this place. The area has way too many other good Asian restaurants. One reviewer said it best — Save your money and go to Panda!

We stopped by to grab some food after getting gas at Valero. We had very low expectations, I mean Golden Chopsticks pretty much shouts«American Chinese food.» We ordered a very standard Chinese chicken salad and chicken fried rice. Both were done very well — the chicken salad lettuce was very fresh and was topped with deep fried slices of chicken. The chicken fried rice was also very good — the rice had just he right amount of wok crispness. You don’t come here for authentic Chinese food but very very solid Chinese American food.

I love Gold chopsticks. these guys are great. its been around for a long time i believe they are family owned. If you visit enough like i do you will get to know the staff really well. They will even start naming your favorites before you can speak awesome lol . its a nice size inside with plenty of parking in front. The location is kinda hidden so if you arent looking or paying attention you can pass up the parking lot. The food is great everytime i come i have not had a bad meal. If its take out or dine in they handle each order the same. The food comes out fast so you never really have to wait long. Its a must try when in the Pleasanton area!

I’ve been here for lunch before and enjoyed their lunch special so I came back again to order take-out one night. However, it was disappointing. I ordered Chicken Chow Fun to-go(I know, I know, I don’t know why I didn’t order beef. guess I was trying to be «healthy»). When I went to pick it up it was in a small paper bag so I was like great, the portion won’t be large. It came out to be $ 11 something which is basically twice I would pay if I was in the city. Anyway, I got home and it came with 2 fortune cookies but no utensils. Luckily the portion was bigger than it seemed. It was in a white paper box but really packed so it lasted me 3 meals, which I guess is more worth it for $ 11…but still it doesn’t compare to SF prices for the same portion size. I ate a fortune cookie a week later and it was stale which kinda sucked. Back to the chow fun, it tasted a little saltier than I’m used to. The flavor was just kind of off but it was okay enough to satisfy my chow fun craving. Overall, for the taste, price, stale cookies, and not even any utensils, I probably won’t be back for take-out or dinner. I’ll probably stick with just their lunch specials.
