I took bass guitar lessons with Seth for two years before moving for college. That was the best experience I had had as a music student. I had taken piano lessons for seven years with two different teachers, but both had neglected to teach me how to keep a beat in music. Seth made sure to teach me how to do just that, emphasizing that that was essential for playing in a group. He also made sure I had a good grasp of theory. And I have no idea how, but he also managed to also help me build a foundation for understanding how improvisation works, while guiding me through some rock songs that I was hoping to learn to play. Seth was always very supportive and friendly and open to answering any questions that I had. He was great at striking the perfect balance between providing me very well-structured lessons and adjusting them, often on the spot, to focus on any weak points I needed to work on. My parents and I were very fortunate to be introduced to the jazz scene in the area through Seth, as he is very well-connected to other musicians in the area. We enjoyed seeing him perform live, which was a quite inspiring experience for me as his student. Ultimately, I would recommend Seth to anyone in need of music lessons! Having overhead other lessons while waiting for my own, I know he is excellent in working with students of all ages, levels, and backgrounds.

Dr. Seth Greenberg is a guitar/music teacher/mentor/coach that one stumbles across very rarely. HIs method of teaching is unique. What you learn from him is not how to play a set number of chord shapes but the hows and the whens and the foundation of the chords. In this way anyone who is a student of music can apply hi/herself to his teaching. I can’t recommend him enough. He has also written 2 very successful books: Billy Bean: The Life and Music of a Jazz Guitar Legend – which is highly comprehensive biography about the great jazz guitarist Billy. He also wrote: A Guitarist’s Guide to Chord Construction. Volume One: Root Position Chords which off Dr. Greenberg’s unique approach to chord construction on the guitar. Dr. Seth Greenberg is a consummate teacher/educator. I can’t recommend him enough.
