Pardon the pun, but David Clarkson is quite the gem. What an amazing experience we had at his shop. My fiancé and I drove to his shop from Oakland to get hammered gold wedding bands as we heard from a friend that he makes beautiful rings by hand and uses recycled gold. We had a phenomenal experience. He spent a ton of time with us helping us design the right ring for us, and then he offered to teach us how to make the rings ourselves! It was very special and memorable– we spent the entire day as his apprentices. He taught us how to make the rings and we got to do it all by hand. He was incredibly patient and encouraging and made sure that our rings looked top notch. It was one of the best days of the summer and a beautiful experience to make each other’s wedding bands. I wanted something special, something unique and something local and that is why my fiancé and I walked into David’s shop. And Behold… we found my engagement ring. David is a one of a kind artist. Over the course of a year, with patience, creativity and delight, David made himself available to help design my wedding band.

My fiancé and I visited Point Reyes Jewelers in search of a set of custom made wedding bands. Prior to our visit, we had exchanged several emails with David Clarkson regarding designs and styles we liked. David spent over an hour with us as we discussed our vision for the rings. He took the time to get to know us as a couple, and made it clear that he planned to make rings exactly to our liking, while also attaining everyday functionality and comfort… and all within our budget.
We are so excited to wear our gorgeous rings for the rest of our lives, and cannot thank David enough for the craftsmanship, precision, and thought he invested in our project.

David’s specialties are hammered rings (my wife’s choice) and scrollwork designs (done with computer-​generated molds). I was also tempted by the hammered style, but went with a simpler design.
Most entertaining detail: David took a picture of myself and my then-​fiancée to post over his workbench while hammering away; he says he likes having the wearer in mind when working. (More pragmatically, it also helped him recognize us immediately when we picked up the rings).
For larger orders, David strongly prefers cash, certified check, or other non-​credit-​card options.
My wife and I wear our rings constantly — and will for a very long time.

Atmosphere isnt special, but the jewelry is! Got some lovely amber rings. Friends bought a watch and an amber necklace. We made out well!
Only problem – didnt happen to me – was that my friend’s ATM card was accidentally run twice (there was a problem with the phone line). The shop was happy to help, but she’s had to do a lot of phone calling to correct the problem with the bank.

I purchased a big, beautiful pair of hoop earrings from Point Reyes Jeweler. I have always had problems with hoop earrings being uncomfortable and easy to dislodge. My hand would brush up against an earring and the next thing you know, I am walking around with only one earring. David’s hand hammered hoops are simple, elegant and they feel like so comfortable that I hardly notice them. They are easy to put on and off and the spring tension keeps them from coming undone. I ordered my earring over the phone and David was so pleasant to deal with.

We highly recommend Point Reyes Jeweler for all your jewelry needs. We found David Clarkson’s small business in a SF newpaper ad on Valentines Day this year and have been very pleased since then by the service not to mention the final product — our wedding rings. The jeweler and owner, David, took his time to create the perfect design. He is hands on, very personable, reasonably priced and went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we ended up as satisfied customers. Long story short, David stayed late one night on short notice, after regular store hours, to finish our rings so that we wouldn’t have to make a long trip from Oakland back to Point Reyes. He told us about Café Reyes, a local pizza parlor right around the corner and while we ate our dinner he put the finishing touches on our new rings and surprised us by delivering them to our table at the restaurant. David is both a fantastic person and a genuine artist. The jewelry he makes and sells in his shop is first rate –as everyone here has said, you certainly can’t go wrong for design, quality or price.
David carries so many pieces that are absolutely unique so that almost every time we visit Point Reyes we have to see David; a minor «problem» is that we frequently leave his shop with a new piece :)

David made our wedding rings five years ago from designs we drew on a computer. He was helpful, patient, and professional. His rings were exactly what we wanted when we conceived of the design. Each time we come in, he is just as helpful, and offers to clean our rings for us.

We first visited David on our honeymoon. We had gotten married without rings, since we couldn’t find the perfect ones in San Jose. At the shop we found about three different designs that we loved. We decided on a particular design after David spoke to us. He listened to our concerns, provided honest feedback, and made a wax ring for us on the spot.
It’s been over a year now since we ordered our rings from David, and I must say I’m just as much, if not more, in love with them. I’ve had lots of compliments on my ring, and have also had women gush all over them.
Our wedding rings are perfect. They embody who we are, our journey, our relationship, and our love completely and the wax ring is a cherished keepsake.

It was a joy dealing with a shop-​owner and crafter of fine jewelry that knows his business.
As we walked down main street, taking advantage of a pleasant day to get away, we noticed David’s unassuming jewelry shop. Not being one for jewelry I balked at first but my fiancé reminded me of the wedding and how I might look a little silly putting a twist-​tie on her finger because I didn’t take the time to get a ring.
Ready and available, David was helpful with all our questions (which were many because all we had done so far was internet research). He took us through the options and back again without pushing for any particular configuration.
Then there was the price… which was totally reasonable. Again, internet research had set us up with an inflated price tag in our head. I feel like he knows his business and knows what people can afford. It all made sense.
Plus the rings are ready way ahead of time, making things even easier.

David made my and my wife’s wedding rings and reset my wife’s engagement ring. We took over his shop for about 3.5 hours one Saturday and had an absolute blast. David was very patient with our jewelry ignorance. He let us make use of his expertise without forcing his views on us. It was the ideal experience and our rings are AWESOME!!!
If you’re looking for jewelry and want a personal touch, this is the way to go.
Prices were totally reasonable. I’d much rather give someone like David the money rather than some chain jewelry store.
