The guys in my office are seriously addicted to this place. They go here 3 to 4 times per week for lunch. I love this place too. Hands down, this is one of the most authentic Mexican restaurants I’ve been to. The outside of this place looks scary though… Like you may walk in and never be seen again. However, I see allot of GM engineers going there. It was easy getting over the seedy looks of the place after tasting the food. I get anything with carnitas. The salsa rocks. I like the green one. Lunch includes the drink. I always get soda water though. It is possible to eat low carb. I love the taco salad and tell them to hold the beans and rice. They’ll put it in a regular bowl too if you don’t want to be tempted by the taco bowl. The price. I always feel guilty about how low the lunch price is. What the heck. Is this place a front for something? How can such good food be so cheap? I think it’s 7.50 now. I always pay with a 10 and leave the change.

Delicious and awesome. Great customer service, too. No idea why there are negative reviews, seems nuts to me. Being from CA/having lots of spanish/mexican friends and going to Mexico… This food is ~very authentic~ and unlike what most people think of in the states when we hear«mexican» food –(and the only type of mexican food that I really like.) THISISNOTTEXMEX. Thankfully. Had the Enchiladas Rojas(Pollo) as did a friend, delicious awesome shredded chicken with GREAT red sauce(NOT spaghetti like the user below said, what the heck!!) Friends had: Carnitas Tacos /Carne Asada Tacos(both masa & flour) as well as Pork Skin… all delicious of course(mexican style with cilantro /onion, not lettuce/cheese) Had sides of 2 different sauces(verde and red) which were also excellent. Chips/Salsa great quality & came with 3 different salsas, each great. If you want GOOD, AUTHENTICMEXICAN go here.

El Maguey, a hidden authentic Mexican gem. I’m surprised more reviews aren’t here. First and foremost they have one of the best authentic menu choices. a huge menu, i love choice! Yes they have all the classic Mexican American stuff, but also Mexican dishes you don’t see to often. The seafood dishes looked good but seemed a little expensive 12 to 18 bucks. 2 dollar margaritas. THECHIPANDSALSASITCHISAMAZING. 3 salsa choices, warm chips. we filled up on it stupidly. Good timely service. We tried a taco variety thing, the carnitas, AL pastor, tripa, asada. All good! Overall really happy. Will come back to try the whole menu basically

Service was fast, waitress was nice to be sure my order was correct. I know it is difficult to order vegetarian in a Mexican restaurant. However, I did my best. Cheese enchiladas — pretty simple. I added onions and jalapenos, nothing OTT. Wow…she asked if I wanted red sauce. I assumed red enchilada sauce right? Fair assumption. NOPE, straight of the jar plain SPAGHETTISAUCE. Disgusting! I couldn’t get myself around this one! I know that refried beans normally include lard(pork), this was not just lard, these beans had been cooked with smoked pork, probably hock or neck bones and were way too«porky» flavored with a lot of salt. Anyways…I prefer Mexican at home… much healthier and tasty.

Yeah it’s in Pontiac, yes there’s real Mexicans in there, and yes a tele novella or soccer game will be on the big screen but come on!!! It’s a Mexican restaurant that serves the most authentic Mexican food you will ever eat– and it’s the BEST!!! Not to mention cheap!!! Four stars due to location– though it has never stopped me from taking my family there for special occasions– party of 18 at times. I’m half Hispanic half white, my family comes in all sorts of colors– NEVER had a problem as other reviews suggested.

The food wasn’t bad but it wasn’t good either. My waitress took way to long. Every time I looked at her to call her over to our table she was doing her makeup. I feel like you have to be a Latin king or sureno 13 to eat here. It was clean though.note the star. I felt like because I am a Mexican who is not from Mexico, that they didn’t even bother with me and my American friends. It was just a bad experience in all. I’ll never go back.

I love hole in the wall Hispanic places, and these one advertised being a seafood Place on their outside wall so I figured I would check it out. Pontiac/Waterford has a lot of small authentic type places that are fun to try out. I ordered a tostada w shrimp ceviche and one with fish, & one pastor taco and a carne asada taco. The tacos sucked. Maybe because I’m a gringa the waitress made me a weird american version of a pastor taco with lots of lettuce and cheddar cheese. UGH. The ceviche tasted off too. The salsas were good, and that’s about it.

This is an authentic mexican restauant in ponti-crack. It took me a while to get up the courage to go here… at night the place is packed. It has a full bar, but I do not recommend the margaritas… no agave and heavy on the sour mix. OnTuesdays I think, they have really cheap drink specials. I tried the soft corn tacos and the nachos and have liked both. Prices are a little cheaper than jalapenos and a little more than Jesus maria. It’s not my favorite but I would come back.

El Maguey offers THE best $ 6.50 lunch in the area. The place is actually staffed and run by – gasp! — actual people of Mexican descent. And you know what? That makes a big difference. Want to watch Univision? Bandamax? Listen to real mariachi music? Yep, this is the place. The food is quite good, too. You can order flour or corn tortillas(gringo v authentic) and there are complimentary chips and salsa(two great varieties) if you dine in(which I do). I dare you to find a better lunch in the area for this price.
