Capt Harrells Seafood & Retail Market

I work in Hampton and live a few hours north. I make an attempt to get seafood from them at least every other week before I go home for the weekend. ALWAYS good quality and incredibly friendly. I have been to other seafood places in the area and they (Capt. Harrells) seems to always price their product $ 1 – 3 less per lb than their competition. I just need to remember to have a few extra checks my your checkbook because they do not accept credit.
…if it means anything to you, I typically don’t do business with people who don’t accept credit because I never have cash but their prices are so good, their seafood so fresh, and their family like atmosphere so inviting that they are well worth the exception!

This place is awesome. I usually get a dozen steamed crabs.

At first glance, this very unassuming shop that looks more like a rundown house will have you asking yourself if you’re in the right place. Trust me, you are. As you jockey for a spot in the not-​a-​parking-​lot, double-​check to see if you have cash or your checkbook. If not, you’re going without, as this place doesn’t take cards.
Once you walk in, you’ll see a register and some accoutrements for seafood (crab mallets, seafood seasoning, sauces & the like). Wander into the back room and treasures of the sea await you.
This is the real deal, folks. Fresh off the boats seafood. The shrimp are to die for. The crab cakes that mama makes? Oh my. All crab meat, thinly wrapped in just enough breading to make sure they’ll cook up well. Pan fry, broil, bake in the oven. And at 3 for $ 9.50, you owe it to yourself to check them out.
