Ummm… might as well call this Motel 5. There aren’t a lot of hotels in Port Arthur, Texas, and to my chagrin, on my business trip here, they were mostly booked. Luckily, however, I found a suite at an all-suite hotel for $ 80… too goo to me true, right? Right. Mainstay Suites is completely disappointing in most everything that counts to a traveler. Upon check-in, I was told that the suite I had booked wasn’t available; I was being placed in a «regular room» instead. Huh? The place is *called* Mainstay Suites… if the regular room isn’t a suite, then what gives? Apparently, in their book, if there’s a sink and fridge, then it’s a suite.(There’s also a dishwasher, but I wouldn’t dare eat off any dishes in here.) The room has those appliances plus a microwave and mini-range in an RV-sized kitchenette, plus a flat-panel TV with a decent amount of channels. That’s the good part. The worst part? Everything else. There’s a sofa in here with a 4″ brown mark on it. I’m not going near it. There are two towels in the entire bathroom, not counting the floor towel. I’m here right now, and I’m not thrilled about the inevitable shower in the morning or the promised continental breakfast. I can say this — compared to any other hotel I’ve been in(especially those calling themselves«suite» hotels), this property fails to meet the mark.
