I have upgraded my review as I have explored more of the menu. Still believe the noodles with chicken & vegetables soup is really good but I am a moo goo gai pan fan especially with pea pods. The tea always hot, the egg rolls are as good as I have had in New York & the service is very good. Fish served whole is very good and shrimp with veggies in brown sauce was loaded with veggies and shrimp. I am certain the family works 7 days a week here so they get all the credit. A toast to Nancy & Ted as they do rock with good portions and very well served chinese food.

exceptional quality americanized chinese food. Their meat is tender and not at all chewy or rubbery like some cheap chinese food places tend to be. I ordered a Szechuan style chicken made ungodly stupid spicy and my wife the szechuan beef. Good veggie to meat ratio and the veggies still crisp and not cooked to a mush. The rice accompanying our szechuan dishes was some of the best rice I’ve ever had from a Chinese restaurant. They offered us soup, i chose egg drop but she suggested to try the other soup which i did (it was divine). The pricing for the food was really good as well as the service, our total was like 11.50 for 2 szechuan dishes, some tea and some water.
The spiciness level was insane and my wife commented how my face was turning red but i didnt care as I spooned more and more chili oil into the dish until it was a red mess. The heat made me sweat, sniffle and soothe my sore throat.
I only wish they had even more authentic dishes like yu xiang eggplant or yinbin style noodles

I’ve been coming here for the last 21 years. Owners Ted and Nancy plus the staff always give exceptional service. Love the «real» Chinese menu and for many years they were the only place that offered it. I travel quite often and have also lived in a few different big cities in the nation. No matter where I go they have the best authentic tasting hot and sour soup and if I feel like Americanized Chinese their sweet and sour sauce is the best. Too many other restaurants use a lot of vinegar leaving a bad after taste and not a sweet citrus flavor. When I come home to Michigan this is always on my list to eat at.

Great food and great service. The waitress and owner were both very nice. They’re very attentive and even packed our food for us. Definitely going back. We had the Sizzling Wor Bar and Sweet and Sour Chicken. It was delicious. Hunans has great food too but their customer service is lacking. This place is friendlier.

Would definitely not get food from here again. The soup was edible, but very oily. The fried rice was not great. The potstickers were gross. Prices are somewhat cheap, but it’s worth spending more money elsewhere for food worth eating.

My son who loves Chinese food loves this place. Super fast, super cheap, good food and has a nice environment. Very friendly. Food is more authentic then most places.

Joy Fong is a Portage institution. Don’t read the reviews from people out of town on this. I realize Chinese food is subjective. Everyone likes something a bit different. Egg rolls are easily the best in town as is the Egg Drop Soup! Prices are more than reasonable and the portions are significant. To the reviewer that complained that their sweet and sour chicken was served with chicken and sauce together? You’ve been eating at WAY too many low scale Chinese buffets. That’s the way Sweet & Sour is supposed to be served. Best part is the owners and their family are really nice people. If you want awesome Chinese food that isn’t «fast food style Chinese» and to be waited on by a great staff visit Joy Fong.

Worst sweet and sour chicken I’ve ever had. They serve the chicken and sauce together and not separately, and the chicken was gross. It was extremely fast service, which is maybe why it tasted so bad. The décor inside and out is very oriental and fitting, which I loved. We were also greeted enthusiastically and warmly with a smile, which is why I’m giving this place two stars instead of one. Prices were very affordable as well. If you go here, get something other than what I ordered!
