A B C Seafood Market

Have been a loyal customer for 8 years. It offers fresh seafood and reasonable price. I personally like their live rockfish, live shrimp, steamer clams and oysters. I sometimes grab a bunch of fresh bok choi and Chinese celery.

The tanks are always full of fresh, healthy fish and shellfish and the staff is incredibly helpful!
Their wide range of every delicious types make all our friends happy at our seafood boils.
They have winkles even!
Try the 3 lb lobsters!
The prices are great as well!

SHOPPERS BEWARE! Yesterday I went in as usual and have been a regular shopper for the last 10 years. I bought 4 pounds of clams. When I got home I discovered they had ROCKS MIXED IN WITH MY CLAMS! About a pound of rocks was in with the 4 pounds of clams I purchased. The rocks were the same size, color and shape as the clams.
I bet they figured people wouldn’t come back to dispute the rocks for a few dollars. How can they knowingly look at their regular customer in the eye and ask them if they wanted more clams and give them rocks? This business is dishonest and shady. VERY BAD BUSINESS THAT CHEATS CUSTOMERS!!!

This really is the place for affordable fresh seafood. The halibut «collars» for 3.99 a lb are a major attraction for me. I like making my son fish tacos and on a tight food budget I can do that by going to ABC. It is also fun to see what they’ve got live in the tank, even if I can’t buy it. My experience is that the quality has been good, the price better than most everywhere else, and its conveniently located if you live in the SE.

Been going to this place since they just open up. Although we are still patronizing this place, I have been quite unhappy w their business practices. The young girl at cash register, daughter of the owner, is incredibly shady. She attempted to cheat us on multiple occasions. If you go, watch the scale like a hawk or she’ll rip you off.

Prices are reasonable and selection of fish, clams, mussels is solid plus there is a built on asian grocery. The fish market takes me back to asian markets in Vietnam and Thailand.

I went around on xmas eve at 10pm thinking I would shop for my xmas dinner. Alas fail! But thank goodness for ABC open on xmas day. After a late 3pm dimsum xmas day lunch, we swung by, got beautiful tiger shrimp and clams for our seafood xmas dinner which hit the table around midnight.
There are huge tanks everywhere of crab, fresh whole fish, shrimp, mussels all the shellfish a gal could want. And you know the nice thing? It’s all fresh. How do I know? it doesn’t stink like «fish»

I love seafood from time to time and was thrilled to find that there was a well stocked seafood market nearby. It is a good place to locate seafood like abalone, various snails, geoduck, lobster, live fish, and crab galore. Hard to find? They might just have it. I found the (owners?) people working there to be very pleasant contrary to what I have read in other reviews. I think my only complaint is that I felt so bad for all the live critters that I could not bring myself to buy anything. The tanks did not seem all that clean and they were crammed, and I mean CRAMMED, with living crabs, lobsters, fish, etc. One tank had about two to three feet of crab piled upon crab. One of the fish tanks had many fish, a few of which were not looking so good just kind of struggling, belly up, on the bottom of the tank. This kind of crowding just makes me think: Contaminant stew. Tasty. Not to mention sad.

A few weeks ago we had a hankering for lobster, and decided to buy some whole live lobsters for a cookout on the grill at home. Consulted Unilocal and found favorable reviews for ABC Seafood — bonus being that they were close-​by. Our shopping experience was good, and we took two energetic, good-​looking live lobsters home from ABC’s tank. Killing and cleaning our crustaceans for the grill was more messy than expected, but OK, we dealt with that. HOWEVER we had an unpleasant surprise once they came off the grill and onto the plate. The quality & quantity of the meat was terrible. Extremely tough, to the point of being almost inedible. You might question our grilling technique, but this is not our first rodeo with lobster on the grill, which has been great in the past using previously-​frozen tails. Extremely disappointed with what we got for our $ 50 (for two lobsters.) We may give ABC a try again for other shellfish, but definitely not for live lobsters.

Great selection and consistent freshness. Do keep an eye on whether the cashier girl correctly calculates the total. Charged $ 42 for what turns out to be $ 32 recalculated on home digital scale and calculator!

Their stuff there are really good, they also have great customer service! If you’re in Portland, you should definitely check it out. They’re like the only seafood store in Portland that has live king crabs! Really good stuff there.

Razor clams live and kicking, $ 3.99 a pound, three for $ 5.00. pick your own. my style. No language problems for me. They let me pick my own and gave me extra ice… They ship… Their razor clams had a rubber band aroud each one, I guess to keep the shells closed… Bondage for clams?

While in Portland, my fiancé wanted to have a home cooked lobster and crab dinner for his 30^th birthday. We looked all over Unilocal in search for an affordable seafood restaurant where we can each have an ENTIRE lobster or crab to ourselves and let’s just say… there are none. So naturally we decided to DO IT OURSELVES.
We checked out a few markets but none had live fresh crustaceans. Finally, on our last stop we found ABC Seafood Market. Parking was easy, they had their own lot. When we stepped inside and the place had a very fishy smell– that must’ve of meant that we found the right place. It’s a small Chinese market with TONS of seafood tanks full of giant prawns, fish, lobsters, crabs, shrimp, and all sorts of FRESH LIVE seafood. Best part was that the place was really cheap! Under $ 10/​lb for lobster and crab! The service is… well…it’s what you expect from a Chinese establishment – fast, broken English, and hurried. We were in and out, and on our way in less than 10 minutes. Overall, it’s a decent market for produce (selection is limited and a little grimy) but GREAT for seafood.

We decided to not do turkey for Thanksgiving last year and instead do «Lobsgiving». It was an excellent choice and we got the lobsters from this place. First off the lobsters were out of this world delicious. Buttttt, if you’re in the least bit squeamish about where your meat comes from or the quality of life it has before you ingest it you might not want to go in this place yourself. It looks like a frickin mad scientist’s lab in there people. I mean I“m sure that’s how most of these places are but I had never been in one before and it was kinda disturbing. Lot’s of sea creatures jam packed in aquariums. With all that being said the lobs were delish and the people helped us pick them out the best they could despite the language barrier. I’ll be going back again.

My first visit will not be my last!
I am as «gringo» as you get and I did not feel uncomfortable at all. In hot pursuit of «the real deal» I enthusiastically give ABC Seafood Market 5 stars.
Not sure what all the hub-​bub is about, as I was greeted with a friendly «hello, can I help you?» by staff immediately when I walked in. They allowed me to wander and check the place out with my wife and 6 year-​old son, without stalking us, and they were definitely at the ready when we had questions and made our final purchase choices…10 pounds of Razor Clams @ $ 3.99 per, some fresh shrimp, salmon… the live blue crabs and lobster were beckoning, but they will have to wait until next time!
Overall, a fantastic array of seafood fare… WOW! All alive and squirming in their tanks, and all at a quality, size (HUGE prawns and shrimp) and price that should make any chain-​store seafood counter manager absolutely BLUSH by comparison.
Yes, these folks are of Asian descent, sure enough, but they DO speak English and were as friendly to this gringo and his family as any Friendly Fred’s fish counter person that I have met! Fresh and frozen seafood at a price that will astound… just pop in at 65^th and Powell if you are simply looking for great, FRESH seafood at a great price… as fresh as it gets actually, since it is still swimming around.

ABC Seafood is a trusted source for fresh and affordable seafood.
They have plenty of tanks of live and fresh seafood. The choices rotate. One time all the big tanks were filled with live Alaskan King Crab. LIVE. Usually, you can only get the flash frozen stuff from your grocer. That day I saw all those king crabs, I knew that ABC is the heavyweight among seafood purveyors. That is important to know so you can be assured everything is fresh. Another proof it is fresh is that they were almost out of everything on a Sunday. Don’t go on a Sunday.
The variety of seafood that comes through here is astounding. I recently scored some fresh halibut collar for $ 3.60/lb. Considering halibut fillets run $ 14.99-$ 20/​lb at the grocery store and halibut collar is a far more flavorful and juicier cut, this was the ultimate score. Halibut collar is a delicacy and a bargain at ABC’s prices. Simply season your halibut collar with EVOO, salt and pepper, roast in a 450 degree oven for 15 – 20 minutes, squirt with lemon juice and sit in awe of the best cut of fish, its collar.
ABC seafood is the place I go for fresh clams and mussels. You are guaranteed freshness. Each batch is tagged with the date they are caught and the date they were delivered. The clams and mussels are kept alive in aerated tanks. Did you know if shellfish are kept in standing water, that they drown? When you take your shellfish home, do not store them in a bowl of water. You’ll kill them dead, D-​E-​D, dead. The clams are only $ 2.99/lb here. That is a lot cheaper than your fine gaijin grocers who sell their clams in a seafood case at ridiculous prices. Clams are fresher and cheaper at ABC.
I also buy their fish here that is kept on ice. That stuff is fresh, too. Fresh fish should not smell like fish. I always smell my fish before buying and it is always smells fresh like the sea without any fishy smell. They also have a live tilapia tank. They will net one and clean it for you. Live tilapia is $ 4.99/lb here.
They also have a small Asian grocery section with basic Asian veggies, fruits, and groceries. There may be a language barrier that might intimidate you. Have no fear. Use your finger, point to the seafood you want, then use your fingers for how many you need.
I live way out in Hillsboro and I have no qualms of making the trek to 65^th and Powell for the freshness, variety, and affordability that ABC seafood provides.

I’ve been coming here for years and recommending it for just as long. I honestly thought I had already written a review for here, but when I checked in yesterday lo and behold, no review, so here it goes. And if you want to make fun of me for forgetting that I had yet to do a review of this place…“Hey, I can blame partying in the ’70’s, what can you blame things on?”
I have always read with interest the reviews people have written about ABC that they were treated rudely, yaddah, yaddah, yaddah, sorry folks you just don’t understand the culture, I could go on about that but nobody says it better than Yen D. in her review, so with apologies to Yen and giving her full credit I offer you this quote:
«Asian culture doesn’t give a shit about coddling you like a little bitch and making sure your overly sensitive, politically correct white feelings as its #1 priority.»

Really the selection here is at times phenomenal, and prices I have found to be the best in town. Like yesterday, they had three types of live crab, dungenous, snow and softshell blue crab, they had many types of live fish, shrimp, prawns and oodles of different shellfish, it was like shopping in an aquarium. And no, they didn’t kiss my white little ass, but they did hurriedly offer to help in broken English, which is fine with me. The place was jam packed with dozens of customers, busy, harried, brusk, a little rude and I was almost the only non-​Asian there. It was a decidedly cultural experience, which I enjoyed.
The shop is really quite small and is stuffed floor to ceiling with aquariums filled with all types of live critters, selection varies seasonally and it is always a joy to come here and find something I didn’t expect. I noticed they are adding on so I look forward to increased capacity in the coming months.

Great place to buy seafood. Some people just don’t know… You dont go to these types of places to get good quality customer service lol. Though it’s located in a suburban area, when you walk inside, it reminds me a lot of some of the fish markets off of East Broadway in NYC. Fish tank water all over the floor, no one speaking English, and employees wearing bit oversized rubber gloves and aprons. I saw an employee clubbing a catfish before he gutted it. Ahhh reminds me of Chinatown NYC…
The selection of fish was a bit limited but there were lots of crabs and other shell fish. It definitely beats going to a grocery store for fish.
