I visited Abby’s Table last Fall and experienced one of the greatest dining experiences ever. Abby Fammartino’s treatment of NW cuisine is excellent in the way she sources fresh items and prepares delicious meals with great attention to the rich flavors of the season. Abby addressed other food sensitivities beyond the base gluten, soy & dairy free fare and that night graciously accommodated the onion and nightshade allergies of a couple of folks at my table. She is truly amazing and responsive to the customer’s needs. Equally marvelous is the ambiance created in a space that essentially is a commercial kitchen. Bringing folks together at long prep tables with subtle lighting and fresh flowers sets a stage for community engagement. Sharing her scrumptious family style food and meeting new people may be the real highlight of the Abby’s experience(although some folks may balk at dining with strangers). I did notice a small group of friends camped out at their own table. clearly a place great for groups. Sadly, the magic has come to an end… I just found out that Abby’s Table, the restaurant, has closed. THEGOODNEWS is that Abby will continue her fabulous catering and will also stage pop-up dinners at interesting public venues as she develops new recipes for an upcoming cookbook venture. Apparently one can host one of these dinners in support of her design efforts so we can all join in the creative process.

Looks like we made it! Just me and a few lovely friends, oh, and those other folks, but we hardly noticed them. Yes, I made it in the nick of time. Abby’s is changing. They will no longer be offering their dinners, instead they will be focusing on catering. And I believe I heard something about a cookbook. We were lucky enough to enjoy one of the Small Plate meals known as Friday Flights. Each morsel of food was carefully prepared and pleasingly presented. I found myself closing my eyes to enjoy the taste and texture of each bite. Everything was amazing however my favorite was the cold cucumber soup. Like everything else they serve, it was 100% Dairy, Soy and Gluten free, yet it was creamy and rich, I wanted to lick the small bowl. I would certainly work with this company for any private events or catering needs I have in the future. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Delicious food, lovely people, and fun atmosphere! Great wine pairings as well ;) I just wish they didn’t take away the plates after each course… We want left overs!!!

Oh my goodness. Where do I start? We were searching Unilocal for a place to eat on our road trip and came across this place. I called in to see if they had any availability for their seating — to our pleasant surprise there were two spaces left! We sat down at a community table with 3 other lovely women and enjoyed the delicious courses — from chilled soup to salad to nut crusted chicken breast with an incredible dipping sauce — it was incredible. I really enjoyed the concept and how the chef came out to talk to us at the end. She even offered us the recipes if we wanted to know how the dishes were made. I love how unpretentious this place is — AND that it meets the needs of dietary restrictions across the board. Amazing. I hope to go back some day!

I’ll start with the worst part: I dined at Abby’s Table recently while visiting Portland and got majorly sick from the food. The only other thing I had to eat that day was very bland, so I know the sickness I felt the entire next day was from their food. I’m not sure what level of cleanliness they’re keeping there, since the kitchen is open for guests to walk through, and you do have to talk through it to use the restroom, or maybe it’s old ingredients that they’re trying to use without wasting since they’re a smaller operation, but if you want to avoid the risk of getting sick, STAYAWAY. I contacted the restaurant just in case they got reports from other diners as well, and the owner was pretty unapologetic about the ordeal. Apparently, customer service is not at the top of their list either. During the meal, which is served family style with shared tables, a plate of food would be almost empty by the time it reached me to serve myself, and there was no refilling of the plates and the staff seemed to have no way to ensure that I was able to receive a fair portion of everything. Again, service does not seem to be something they think about. Finally, the food itself was nothing that great. Some of it was rather bland, and it seems they may have just had this idea to take advantage of the gluten/dairy-free diet restrictions people have while not necessarily being well-trained chefs. With all of the other gluten-free options available in Portland, I’d definitely save your money and try someplace else.

Went to Abby’s Table last night to celebrate two birthdays and had one of the best meals of my life. No exaggeration. Top 5 meals. Everything was fresh, bright and packed with flavorful. We spent a large chunk of evening trying to figure out what was put in the dishes that made them so flavorful. My highlight: the vegetarian’s main dish of the portobello mushroom. It was crusted in some kind of quinoa mix with a fresh pesto side; even the meat lovers at the table said they’d get that next time! You really do feel like you are sitting at Abby’s table and are eating home cooked food made with love straight out of her kitchen. It is a really special experience sitting at a table with strangers, being able to share the wonderful flavors, and leave full, happy and with new friends. Looking forward to our next meal there. Thanks, Abby!

Solidly good, healthy, and creative food. Food probably warrants a 4.6, but I am just not a big fan of the family style service and seating arrangements.

Abby’s Table provided an awesome selection of catered food created specifically for our group. It was so nice to enjoy a gluten free, diary free meal that tasted incredible. We are utterly grateful for this local business!

This month, I signed on for Abby’s January Jumpstart. For $ 125 a week, I received a crate of food prepared in glass containers. The food included 2 smoothies(2 of each kind), salad and vegetable sides, salad greens, two types of soups and a few other entrees(usually one having chicken or fish and another with egg). Oh, and some amazing gluten free, dairy free, soy free dessert(still can’t believe that something could be sooooo good and be free of all of that stuff). I loved the veggie side dishes and would make full meals out of them. For example, I made chicken stir fry with the sweet and sour bok choy one night and the moroccan carrots another night. As a busy mom and business owner, it was amazing to have meal time go a little more quickly. I was also really inspired by the food and it has reflected in my own cooking. I am in my fourth week of this and I feel so great. I have noticed that my skin is clearer and my nails are stronger too. I will definitely do this again. They are opening a Fresh-and-Go case this week so be sure the head in there and grab some food or sign up for a dinner.

I had been hearing how wonderful Abby’s Table is, and have been meaning to check them out for quite a while. The restaurant isn’t like a typical restaurant, they’re not open every day. I finally pinpointed a day that worked out for me and a friend and made a reservation online. Everything is gluten free and dairy free, every course has a vegan option. The food was amazing! Abby’s Table is by far my favorite restaurant that I have been to. My friend commented to me later, «That was really good. Low key vibe and the friendliest servers ever. And the nicest chef!» I echo her sentiments! Served family style, there was plenty of food. Everything was presented in a pleasing manner, every morsel delicious! The chef Abby came out at the end of dessert and spoke about the food she served and answered any questions. I asked about the classes she holds, and it sounded like it would be fun to take. I can hardly wait to try it out!

I love everything about Abby’s Table! Comfortable ambiance, cute table settings, perfect timing — courses came out timely but still able spend a couple hours with my friends, good drink menu and the best food!!! Everything was well thought out and you could taste how fresh everything was. We left satisfied but not feeling like gluttons.

Food was amazing — even my dad, who grew up on the farm and is a meat n’ potato kind of guy enjoyed the meal. It was really nice that there is only one seating and nothing felt rush. The downside… we were there July 11th. I’m not sure if the air conditioning was broken, or if they just don’t have any but were were HOT. Sweat dripping down the back of my legs HOT. We even had to request a bucket of ice to add to our water as it wasn’t chilled. H-O-T. I would recommend asking for a table near a window, or going in the winter perhaps.

I wasn’t quite sure about«family style» dining, but was looking forward to an amazing fresh, local meal that I didn’t have to worry about(with my dietary restrictions). Abby’s Table did NOT disappoint. In fact, the food was great – Italian night00and the company wonderful as well. We have made reservations again for later this month and am looking forward to trying Vietnamese next.

I have a big ol’ girl crush on Abby! It all started when I went to visit my sister and Portland and wanted to take her out to dinner for her birthday. She suggested italian or french which, in the ol’ days, would have been great. But since I can’t eat dairy or gluten, going to a «normal» restaurant makes me grumpy since the choices are incredibly limited. And grumpy does not make for a good dining companion. So of course I went to Unilocal(thanks Unilocal!) and started checking out other Portland possibilities. First off, Portland has more GF/DF options than the bay area, I was impressed. I found Abby’s table and we made a reservation. The menu was fantastic and I felt comfortable there knowing it would be safe/healthy. We sat at a table with four other nice folks and chatted as the family style platters started coming out. I LOVED the food, the presentation and the staff. The food made me happy and also HOPEFUL that eating can still be a fun and beautiful experience. Abby comes out at the end of the dinner and talks about where the food is sourced, specific ingredients, etc. She definitely had me at «nutrient dense sprouts and shoots»; the girl crush was confirmed. I will definitely be back to Abby’s Table EVERY time I’m in Portland.

As a person who has not limitaitons to what I can eat(outside of trying to stay local and informed about what I put in my body) I love the food here. Served family style, which resulted in more leftovers for me to polish of(read: big eater) than I expected. So if you are worried about that, dont be. The people we have sat with have alswys been interesting and pleasant. Like having a really great neighbor on an airplane. You can bring your own drink(beer/wine/symple syryp ;) which is nice because the meal that is a deal in the first place($ 24 for 4 dishes !!!) wont get hiked up by wine. I felt really great after because the food was so nourishing but not heavy and sweet and full of butter. You have to reserve online, but it is easy. And they remind you with a call AND and email. So you wont forget. Just go. It is a great experience, even if you are just curious about new ideas in dining.

Abby’s Table is a long-standing favorite with my family. When we all get together, we have people who don’t eat gluten, dairy, soy, and meat, all in different combinations. I’m old hat at whipping up meals we all enjoy, but finding restaurants we all love is harder. As Abby says, she wants to bring together all types of eaters, and she does a great job. Everyone sits at community tables(sometimes your neighbors want to talk, sometimes they don’t), food is served family style, and you can see all the action as the meal comes together in the big, open kitchen. I especially appreciate how Abby focuses on what she’s serving and not what she left out. The food at Abby’s is always different, delicious, and clean, and you never feel like you’re missing anything. For instance, the veggie option is every bit as good as(and sometimes better than) the meat option. Order one of each because you’ll definitely want to try to try both. This is a great place to bring people who need to change their diet but can’t see how it would work; it really opens peoples’ eyes to how you can cut out foods like dairy and wheat but still eat deliciously. Check the Dinner section of the website for upcoming menus and punch cards that bring the price per meal down to $ 18 or $ 20.

Abby’s Table has done something few other restaurants have — it elevates dinner into much more than a mere meal. It’s an experience. An evening of delicious food and great companions. When you go to dinner at Abby’s Table, you don’t get a menu with a list of what you can order. You get a menu with a list of what’s for dinner. No deciding, just enjoying. Each week is a different theme. From Northern France to the Northwest Coast, Abby dishes out classic flavors with a unique twist — everything is soy, gluten, and dairy free. Dairy free doesn’t mean you won’t have a delicious clam chowder. Gluten free doesn’t mean that tart for desert lacks an amazing crust. Now, there’s a few things to know so you’ll get the most out of your amazing dinner at Abby’s Table: — Bring your own wine. Abby provides wine glasses and water, but does not(currently) serve any other beverages. You’re encouraged to bring a bottle or two yourself. Don’t worry, there’s no corkage fee here. — Bring your friends. While it’s great for just two people, it’s even better with a big group to share the experience with! — Expect to eat family style. This means that stranger next to you will be sharing the platters of amazing food with you. Take the opportunity to converse with your new dining companions and make dinner a social experience. Given how much I love Abby’s Table, odds are I’ll be one of them! — Be aware that dinner at Abby’s goes for $ 24/person. It’s definitely not the cheapest dinner in town, but when you consider that you’re getting a 4-course meal with fresh, local ingredients(sometimes harvested that same day!), you really can’t beat the price! Head over to to check out what theme is coming up next. Then make your dinner reservations — you won’t regret it!

Abby is an excellent chef trained in nutritional cuisine. Her dishes are fresh, rich in flavor but not fat, and the experience of the family table meal is really fun. A great place to meet people or take a date for a new experience. My husband and I loved it! She also offers hands-on cooking classes that are co-creative and fun. I took the Gluten Free Italian cooking class. See my blog with pictures and details: One last surprise, Abby offers healthy meals as a meal plan service for those who want to, or need to, eat healthier, but need some help during the transition or simply want delicious, healthy meals regularly but don’t have time and/or desire to cook for themselves.

I have been wanting to go to Abby’s Table for far too long. Yesterday I brought a friend and every course was just amazing. Each time something was brought out we commented back and forth that surely that course was the best but it kept coming! My friend C loathes fish, nuts and carrots but all three were not just consumed but devoured! She even told Abby afterwards saying, «I cannot believe how amazing that was and I ate food I normally hate but I loved it!» She and I also agreed at how perfectly the textures played off of each other! Portland is lucky to have this amazing chef in our midst! This meal just felt great as well — such a lovely group of people who felt like old friends at the end. Watching the open kitchen was a treat for me as well — the ballet happening back there was just lovely to behold… such amazing organization and cleanness — it was very inspiring. And Abby announced after dinner that they are going to start Thursday night dinners in addition to Wednesdays and Saturdays! You simply must eat here — it really is an experience in dining like no other. My friend C and I have decided we are most certainly getting punch cards and making this a regular thing for she and I to hang out — you should join us!

I want to lie to you. I really do. I want to tell you that Abby’s Table wasn’t completely amazing. that I didn’t love this gluten, soy, dairy, and refined sugar free meal, and that I don’t think about her pumpkin mousse twice an hour. I want to say it wasn’t fun, that her Wednesday dinners aren’t one of the best deals in Portland, and that I didn’t leave utterly impressed. But I can’t. As much as I want to keep this a secret I want it to succeed. So this is all I’m giving you; these vague mutterings, a few dimly lit pictures( ), a recommendation to go to New Season’s and buy her Nude Ranch, a link to her website for you to peruse( ), and a strong suggestion that you check out one of her dinners(just leave room for me).
