This is a great little homebrew supply shop. While it’s not as big as others they seem to have everything needed. They also exchange CO2 for a really great price!

This place is my favorite brew supply store. They have everything you need and at very reasonable prices. The staff is always friendly and willing to help with any questions you might have. The location in the shopping center is a bit awkward to get to, but it’s nice having plenty of parking.

Seems like a decent place to me. Reasonable prices on most things and they readily answer questions. Although it appears some employees may be more willing and helpful than other. The owner is a sort of all over the place if you have to talk to her, she always seems extremely frazzled, some of her employees are pretty knowledgeable though.

This place is conveniently located right down the street from my place. I came here for some grain, yeast, and hops to start my new IPA brew. The prices were very reasonable. I walked out with 12 lbs of grain, yeast, and hops for $ 26. The location in the shopping center is somewhat hard to find, but not impossible. The place seemed a little unorganized. There weren’t any prices on the items and I had to ask the price for every single item I was contemplating buying which held me up for some time. The person helping me was apparently the mother of the people who run the store, I know this because she told me about 5 times. *Proud mom. She was sort of all over the place in answering my questions and helping me with product. I wasn’t really sure if I was getting knowledgeable advice. Other than that, they had everything I needed(I think). I’ll be back for my next brew supply needs.

Sometimes the service is meh, other times it is quite good. Decent selection of items, given the size of the store. Knowledgeable employees. Be sure to check out the Unilocal deal to save 5 dollars if you spend 20.

A great place to get homebrewing supplies or for an aspiring new brewer. They have just about everything you need, the prices are reasonable, and the staff will bend over backwards to help their customers.

The first time I shopped here I felt super guilty as I already had a steady home-brew shop. Their location is close to where I work, so I just couldn’t resist. And darn it if these people weren’t the friendliest most knowledgeable people ever! The owners are an older hippy couple who seem to know, and are genuinely happy to see, almost every one who walks through the door. I’ve also been helped by a younger woman and younger man who also really know their stuff. I don’t even bring in my recipe book anymore, I just use the ones they keep on file there. Nothing I have tried has been a disappointment. Really cool place!

3.5 rounded to 4. I have been going to ATR for 4 years and I still think they don’t recognize me(even though they track your order history there). It’s not that they have bad customer service, I just think that the nature of a store like this, which is run much like«Ye Olde General Store» means that it’s really 1 customer at a time. I will say that they are not pretentious which is an common trait for home-brewing supply stores. The quality of grains/malts/hops is all pretty decent as far as I can tell. I will say that anytime you buy grains you should check on how fresh they are! I do like their bulk malt and they have the normal selection of boutique adjuncts. Also, there is good literature here with a library that you can consult for recipes. Go on a weekday if you can.

Amazing customer service. The people here are so kind and helpful. No matter how dumb my question is, they always go out of their way to help out. When brewing my first batch on my own, I had to call them several times to ask questions like«what does it mean to add hops at 0min?» Also, now that I’ve been brewing for a while, they’re always able to answer my harder questions; like when subbing in other ingredients, or recommendations for recipe changes, etc. Their prices are also awesome. I was comparing what an extract batch would cost me at different brew stores around PDX metro, and, when it comes to costs, Above the Rest is always BELOW the rest. I consistently pay $ 5 or so less than I did at other brew stores. Selection is great. They’ve never not had a hop or yeast I’ve needed. They’ll also help you make yourself some wine, mead, or even cheese.

My wife went to several Brew shops around town to get me my first kit, the reason she went to so many places was based on how the people treated her. She stopped into this place and was pleased on how nice they were. There is something to be said about good customer service. I went to their home brew class and I to was pleased by their service!!! I look forward to many trips here in the future!

I must say, this place is not my favorite place for brewing stuff. I have not been in there for a while but the 3 times I went, didn’t enjoy my experience. One of the times I found a bag of hops that did not have any vacuum seal in the fridge. I let them know so they could pitch it and their response was that they would go reseal it. Now maybe they just bagged them and didn’t notice but for me, I had to wonder how long they had been sitting in there exposed to air. Given the other brew shops that I’ve reviewed, this is the one that is closes to my house and the one I go to the least.
