Bobby-Q

It’s a little food-​cart at the corner of Vancouver and Fremont. I stopped by here last night and enjoyed fall off the bone tender ribs with just the right amount of smoke. The sauce they were slathered with was tangy, a touch sweet with a nice hint of heat. The real star of the show was the collard greens with a bit of Grandma’s cha cha relish added. Seriously good — don’t visit this food-​cart without asking for the cha cha relish. Bobby Q’s is definitely going into my NoPo food-​cart rotation.

Just a couple weeks into the infancy of his little cart biz, the Man Bobby running Bobby-​Q brings a vivid, backyard BBQ feel and taste to this thriving little cart pod. Que Sabrosa, Mum’s kitchen, et al, are proven winners through several seasons and years at this location, and here’s wishing Bobby and his cart similar lasting success.
Whether it’s beef (brisket), chicken, fish or pig you’re after, Bobby brings it. I found his pan-​fried catfish («Japanese-​style» breading, as he calls it) and the pork rib tips to be particular stand-​outs on his menu. You can order ala cart or with sides — the usual suspects accompanying good ‘cue— greens, mac and cheese, beans/​black eye peas. There was a distinctive smokiness to the mac and cheese I found to be a winning innovation! Why has no one thought of this before? You can get an insanely large order of rib tips («gang of tips» as he calls ‘em), enough for you and your whole bowling league or Bunko team, for just $ 20. Excellent value, and insanely tender, hickory/​mesquite smokey goodness, comin’ atcha.
