Horrible service. We walked in to check out the game and we walked to the back and the bartender(girl) yells across the bar if we’re playing lotto machines, we say no, so she yells at us again«what drink you want», we ask if the game is playing and she turns the tv on. I then waited about 5 min at the bar while she talked to her friend at the end of the bar. When our friend arrives, she yells across the bar again by using his name and it got everyones attention and she tells him to get a beer. He said he didn’t want one but she kept yelling at him to come and get one. She was very rude. There isn’t a cook, so their lame menu is fries, tots and two cold sandwiches. My brother and friend are regulars there and they said the bartender wasn’t friendly like usual and will think about going again. I’ve only been a couple times and that is the first time I didn’t like the customer service.

First time I walked in here i was insulted by a heavier set blonde girl because she wanted me to buy a drink before i could use the restroom. I was about to pee my pants! And i really would have prefered to look at a menu with a clear mind/bladder. I would highly recommend to never ever come here. She was calling me all kinds of dirty names once I decided to go elsewhere. I’m not the type to pull the«race card» but I’m almost wondering if the reason for me being immediately mistreated was because of my ethnicity. I can’t think of anything else that would cause a person to go into attack mode to the point of almost following me out the door? Do yourself a favor and go to a different bar, because after my 1st experience i would not be shocked if this girl felt comfortable even spitting in someone’s drink.

Since the Matador closed: tears: we make this our go-to spot when we’re staying Downtown. We are usually here late night, so I couldn’t tell you about the food, but the drinks are spot on. The place also has pinball games, pool tables, and a jukebox. Nice place to end your late night of drinking.

I have been drinking at The Commodore for years now. I find myself enamored of the staff and ownership. Each bartender has a unique and nuanced personality and they each provide excellent service in their own way. Even with a recent price increase, it’s still laughably inexpensive. To get a free-poured drink for under 5 dollars, two blocks away from a professional sports stadium, is a deal of mythical proportions. The food is simply phenomenal. I hear people raving about the fried chicken all the time, but I’ve honestly never had it. Every time I order food I can’t resist The Burnt Burger. I’ve ordered it time and time again and it is EXACTLY the burger I want and need in my life. Every single time. Time to come clean: This is my first and only Unilocal review and it is written to counteract a recent review that I took great exception to. A recent reviewer stated that the service had taken a nose dive and had gripes about nickles and dimes. I respectfully and emphatically disagree. The staff is astounding if you pay attention. I have seen the bartenders there, single handed, deal with an insane pre-game Timbers crowd at maximum capacity, and no one waits more than a couple of minutes to get a drink in their hand – all while being hyper vigilant with regards to security and efficient customer service. They do it and they never lose their cool. Bartenders that can handle the stress of that crush the way they do is a level of professionalism that I think can only be described as elite. On a slower day that same bartender will make you laugh so hard you will think you might die of it. When you step into The Commodore you are stepping into a real bar. Staffed with real people that are some of the best at what they do. You will not find corporate smiles plastered under dead eyes. It is a neighborhood institution staffed by neighborhood people that very obviously care about how their business is run. I am more than willing to pay a nominal surcharge here and there to help keep places such as this alive and well in a struggling neighborhood. But I don’t worry about nickles and dimes when I go out drinking, and I would contend that if you do, maybe you should do your drinking at home. It’s much more cost effective. It would also save the rest of us form your persnickety, pedantic bellyaching.

This place has just really taken a nose dive. The service is rude, pours and pricing inconsistent and they nickel and dime you on everything from using a card to ordering a drink tall. After about fifteen years of drinking here, I think I’m done. Thanks for the memories…

This place is a warm, happy, friendly, relaxed locale with great drinks and lovely, open-minded bartenders who serve you well. I always feel welcomed here. The drinks are priced right and you can’t beat the location. It’s a good place to chill, talk your friends, and the food, well, it’s the bomb! The cook, Tim, will come and deliver your food and I have had had one of the best salads of my life there: fresh arugula with a gorgeous dressing! Swoon.

If you’re in the area, this is a really fun, affordable dive bar with great drinks. They also have really good food. My favorite is the homemade fried chicken, but I’ve also been told that the macaroni and cheese is to-die-for. Update: the nachos and hamburgers are really good. And I’ve heard from a vegetarian that the salad, the hamburgers, and the nachos are good too. You can just go online. I don’t know when they have their menu up. I don’t really necessarily go into a bar with the intention of eating anyways. Who would go into a bar for drinks? Food is secondary. Well actually it’s third. I go there for the drinks, the people, and then the food.

Warm and inviting atmosphere. Delightful staff, Chuck was a polite and great bartender. Delicious cocktails. Pool tables? Lottery machines? They’ve got ‘em. Pinball? No problem. Plenty of seating, two bars. Why would you go anywhere else?!

5 star dive bar. No harm in coming here. Heavy pours and a jukebox. The place has been here for awhile, and I’ve been 2 or 3 times at this point. Last night I got food for the first time, and although the menu made it sound really good(homemade tots, house seasoning, stuff like that) it ended up tasting like standard bar fare. The fries were thick cut and fairly starchy, although halfway through a friend spilled an entire glass of vodka on them which might have influenced the flavor. The tots tasted like any other tots, definitely seemed frozen and not homemade, unless the homemade tots were then frozen and used for my dish. Anyway. We had a few drinks, and I watched the bartender literally fill my glass with vodka and then splash Tonic on top. It was tough to slug down but I appreciated the sentiment, I definitely was giving off a «get me hurting drunk» vibe. Good place overall, and my go to dive on west burnside now that matador(rip) closed.

My fiancé and I wandered into The Commodore on a recent trip to Portland. The day bartender was delightful! I was suffering from indecisiveness and she suggested a muddled cocktail with fresh fruit – it was very tasty! She recommended some delicious local beers for my partner, and even wrote down the names/addresses of rental bicycle shops and other local attractions. Above and beyond! We came back the next night and met the night bartender, who was very friendly and entertaining! The next time we come back to Portland we will definitely be swinging by! Great people, great vibe!

The Comadorre salad is awesome, full of great fresh greens. The burnt burger is truly amazing and I only eat beef once or twice a month. So don’t miss it.

I used to frequent the bar in its old location and loved it dearly. I only recently found out they had moved, so I had to check it out. Way bigger space and now there serve food at night. Great chicken and still Really strong drinks for not much. Good to know things haven’t changed. The older mean lady is gone, but the new younger lady is a chip off the old block. Made me wait a really long time to even acknowledge me, as she was talking gossip. When she did get to me, she made me a great drink though. So it’s all a wash. Stronger drinks than anywhere other than sewicklys, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if she used to work there. Plus, she got into it with someone over video poker and held up a bat, all while wearing skin tight workout wear! Totes entertaining!

Pay attention folks! There have been some changes to the menu. Some awesome changes and the kitchen doesn’t disappoint! I am particularly enamored with the fried chicken and the mac ‘n cheese. I am also pleased as punch that the barkeep serves up very strong drinks for a pittance. Inside, Commodore totally fits the definition of a dive bar. It’s kinda dark, kinda has some shady looking folks slumped in the seats at the bar getting day drunk(not that day drinking is a bad thing…) I am not one to call that kettle black. For your entertainment, there is a jukebox available, pool tables, and video gambling machine. I wish they would update their website and post the menu online. Lack of online menu aside, Commodore is pretty cool. 2014 — Review # 21

LOVE this bar! Great food, stiff cocktails and good beer selection. Good little neighborhood bar. The staff, with the exception of the big bartender(sorry don’t remember his name) are AMAZING! Friendly and fun. Will keep stopping in. The Mac n Cheese is delicious, good burgers and nachos as well.

Stiff drinks, cheap prices, great vibe. Not super divey, but anything but upscale. Their prior location was a fond place for my friends and I, but the newer, larger location is nice gor groups! This is a great bar to relax, and just hang out. They now serve food(aside from just the chips at the previous location) but I’ve yet to try it!

Went in Sunday morning for brunch with some friends. Nice, clean little joint. They keep remodeling and it shows(friends told me they had changed it up). I had the biscuits and gravy with«chicken fried chicken» and my wife had the french toast. Very good. I was very impressed! I didn’t eat for the rest of the day and priced very reasonably! We don’t get into downtown too often, but we have already planned our next two trips here! I am even thinking about getting in on their pinball tournaments! They just added 5 machines! Watch out Tommy, I am coming for you!
